I was a junior in high school and my mother just passed and I remember when my band director handed us this band music and as we were playing I heard everyrhing and it was like hearing my life story of my feelings in the air of losing my mom's. And I was so emotional I played my feelings through my alto saxophone I got the 1st sax part and it just made me feel like my mom was there listening. R.i.p. mommy I will always love you and miss you

While my brother was in high school, he loved band. He could play the trumpet, trombone, baritone, some guitar, and wanted to learn how to play the alto sax as well. He was in the marching band, which provided him with some structure, and even wanted to go to school for band. He graduated high school in 2019, and passed away September 22nd, 2022. His old band program dedicated this song to him at their most recent winter concert. It's beautiful and I know he would have loved it.

Sorry for your loss, it was awesome for your director to choose such a wonderful song to play.

My band director pulled me aside when I was in the eighth or ninth grade (I forget which--I'm a junior in college now lol) and got me to play the first trumpet part of this just to see if I could and I remember thinking it was one of the prettiest songs I've ever heard. It was really difficult to play this at that age but it was really fun. We never played it as a band but it's still my favorite song I ever played while in high school. If you play a trumpet, you know songs like this are really fun because they're the most challenging--not only are they high but they have to be played beautifully and not just loud. It's easy to play a high note. It's hard to play a beautiful high note.

I'm in middle school, and our teacher gave this to me(first part for trumpet) and I was like "excuse me ma'am wtf is this I'm going to die" but I did the high c during the concert and after the concert I was crying, everyone thought I messed up(I'm the only first trumpet) but I told them I had done the high c and I needed to tell the teacher bc she thought I couldn't do it. I gave her a huge hug, and that was the first time I ever hugged my teacher.

I can't remember when i played this, but it was either when i was in 10th, or 11th grade. I got to meet Samuel Hazo because my high school used to do this thing where we had a Guest artist perform with us. He was a really nice guy. Looking back on this, this was one of my favorite songs we performed in band in high school.

I remember my band director told me "if you can't play the high c, don't" I played it perfectly during my concert and it's one of my favorite moments in band

Had to play this for graduation today. Kinda sad we had five days to practice it before today but it was better inside then out. Still pretty to say the least.

Jayssee, don't worry about that High C, it's optional. The G will sound just as good.
