I know a lot of us are split on the Monetization of this game, but truthfully it is a banging game regardless. I hope that in time, the developers will learn how much that monetization does turn people away and reverse their steps, but for now... Well, I think it's about monetization, cheaters and not coming to steam in fear of review bombing because of the first one. The more they (devs) are delaying everything the worst it's gonna be.
I'd play this--it looks really good. As a rule of thumb I never pay for anything extra. If I can earn in-game reward points to purchase (think Rb6 Renown) things then I'll do that, but never will I put more actual money into a game for cosmetics or early access. I don't even pay for battle passes no matter how hard these devs push the FOMO factor. Nice vid, Fry.
I haven't yet tried this game because of the Pay to Win. Has it improved at all? Is it that bad to start with? Also, with Delta Force almost coming, is this actually worth it?
this game would have 10x the playerbase if it didn't have pay to win monetization, it's extremely superior to EFT in many aspects and people would jump ship immediately as already demonstrated with the beta test.
I don't know about this one. It's more accessible and not as hardcore what is probably nice for a lot of players. On the other hand it feels so shallow, it lacks content, the maps are bad and because it's sooooooo easy to make money you don't get the same rush while playing staked. You almost have no gear fear... But yeah the potential is definitely there.
I have been playing non stop. I have not found the pay-for-Koen setup to be an issue. I think what helps keep it a non issue for people who don’t pay for koen, is the 3-tiered lobby system. I have NEVER played Forbidden Zone in this game because I have heard that is where the sweaty whales are and the cheaters. I only play Normal and Lockdown Zone. I have never seen a cheater and I never see crazy whales that seem like pay-to-win losers with Thermals all the time and stuff like that
agreed and will add that this game does just throw an endless amount of money at you when doing task/missions/and weeklies. First thing I noticed when playing and the whole P2W was thrown out the window then.
After just starting out recently, I'm pretty stoked for the new update. Been playing a bunch without sinking money into the p2w store (and it's more of a QOL store IMO don't @ me,) with a fresh map it will help refresh the player base. This game ticks a lot of the right boxes and it feels fun to play.
I can't believe people are still crying and claiming the game is pay to win. They literally cap the amount of Koen you can buy. For free to play players, they give you missions, free items, free koen, events, etc. as options to make money without having to pay. if you run into a squad of juicers, if you play smart, you can come away with good loot and make a profit on almost every run. I should also note that without the micro transactions, the developers would not get the funding they need to add stuff like in S1 so they need some form of ongoing revenue. Maybe one day they will only have skins has microtransactions, but the game is still early in development.
it is still pay to win, if you can pay real money for ingame currency so you can buy better gear etc it's counted as pay 2 win, the game itself is good but the mentality behind this monetization is wrong. Everyone should have same chance to earn stuff, so i would say skip the whole buy ingame money and just let skins be purchasable, skins doesent give anyone pay 2 win advantages, but ingame currency does if you can pay real money for it instead of trying to earn it by playing
If you play this game enough you quickly realize that with the current economy its not pay to win. I'm good at tarkov and I am good at this money has never been an issue same for my group that play this. The koens is more so for people who may not be willing to put time in to run naked for a whole night to run good kits the next can do so for what 5 dollars on free to play game and you can quite easily snowball from there into wealth or play with there mates for the night. The koens allows people of all skill levels,time played to just be as kitted as the chads who will shit on you. The game promotes pvp, killing other players with a little looting in-between, its not as deflating to have a crack in a fight and lose the fight. This games identity is not a tarkov clone ironically, its in no way as hardcore and requires you to sink 500 hours/do a million quests die over and over before you get the fun end game pvp/good pvp. This game wants people to be able to jump in play an PVP focused extraction shooter, it values the players time and if a player values there's and doesn't want to grind they can jump straight in. Tarkov does not, that game doesn't open up till you unlock flea. The gain you get in this from koens is much less then what we get with EOD, Unheard edtions of tarkov, that player that spends money is probably bad at the game already or learning this genre and will probably die anyway to someone who has the same kit from being good at the game or spending the time saving koens. I really do not get this pay to win argument, how is this any different to people in tarkov no lifiing it getting max traders, best ammo 1 week into wipe and then shitting on the majority of player base. You cannot play tarkov now as a new player this deep into wipe it would be hell. This game allows anyone to have that good kit at anytime and for a jump in free to play extraction shooter means players will stick around if they like it or come back when they feel like playing again. End of the day the games free very well made, the same studio made delta and I loved that too. They are allowed to monetize the game and at no point does it feel or you are pushed to spend money. I have over 19mil from just hunting pvp and not dying. This narrative your pushing is so misplaced when there is nothing predatory about it nor does it ruin the experience for majority of the players, you wouldn't even know in raid I have run into one thermal my whole play time. It's 100% pay to win, lack of insurance makes it just as deflating. It can still be fun but the game has issues that tarkov solved years ago. you don't run the best ammo after a week, you run it that day.

The game is good and optimized. Steam reviews won't mean anything. People enjoy it, and people dislike it. If Tarkov was on Steam, it would have mixed or mostly negative reviews. I've never been in an ABI lobby where people complain about P2W. The people complaining either don't play it or they aren't good at the game. Inexperienced players who buy t6 gear usually get owned. The good players aren't buying in game currency for gear, they are taking it. Most people money on the secure case. Give the game a try if you are on the fence.

It’s all about getting other players gear. The rich get richer and the poor get poorer. I’d advise to spend the extra money on that year 5 kit as you will live longer and get more player gear.
The game is honestly phenomenal. The pay to win aspect really doesn’t affect the specialized grind that you can set for yourself and there’s already tons of ways to earn money and have a good time either way. I’m up 22mil and haven’t spent a dime
In early season you call pay 2 win because you can buy gear and ammo but you cannot guaranteed to extract. Later season f2p can catch up to people because there's no wipe. Based on my experience all people playing t7 during night and fog event
This game implemented in their game what tarkov already has in terms of "pay2win". You can hop on any site and buy roubles and stuff, pay for better versions of the game with better gear and ammo and gamma case. They saw how people really are interested in buying that stuff they implemented it in their game to make the money themselves instead of letting other people make money off of their backs. Thay's how i see it.
yup in tarkov you can have 10x the money for 10x less of the price and this way the money is going directly to support the development of the product and doesnt incentivize cheaters to run a business within the game. on top of that making the devs actually have to care about cheaters because they dont thrive off housing that playstyle like bsg does.

All it takes is one creator with a large following to say the game is good or bad for it to swing in either direction, regardless of the rating.

I don’t think the so called pay to win aspect is that bad at all I’ve played a lot and never spent a penny but find my self rich and having a blast and able to combat players with better gear easily as well it’s free to play so they have to make money some how I think people over think this to much just play the beta it speaks for it self
The implementation is way better than Tarbug but the game is flat, you can remove lvl and quest and the game would feel the same. Progression is unexistent and the economy is terrible
Exactly. A less buggy version of Tarkov that had quick matchmaking time, some QoL features would be the ultimate game. The game is impressive and the PvP experience is good, but you still have to move around a map that feels soulless, cheesy sounding AI voice lines, and a shit economy that’s trying to force you to buy in game currency with real money… Not to mention to get a 6 slot container they want $120 a year. I get it, but that container should be no more than $5/$60 a year. Making me pay nearly the cost of Tarkov Edge of Darkness edition EVERY year for a container is CRAZY WORK.
Tons of cheats and the meta is either cycle helmets and one tappers or naked with mosin and level 7 ammo. Because the game has almost 0 bullet drop and you can see your team mates on the map at all times, the game boils down to very wide, perfect flanks.

Expand the weapon view model in your games because when playing, the weapon takes up half of the screen and we cannot see the surroundings, we feel like it is right under our noses and this ruins the gaming experience.

Are you playing on 1080p because that's most likely thr cause. Game looks ass on resolutions under 1440p. Unfortunately it's becoming common for games to do that these days
the false ban situation is absolutely insane. I don't cheat in games and caught a 3 day "observation period" and I am not running anything beyond my mouse and keyboard software and audio software for my headset. I can't support a game like this that casually gives out false bans to players who did nothing wrong and make us lose out on things I spent real money for like a 3x2 secure case. So frustrating.
Unfortunately i was dissappointed by this game at Gamescom of this year, because the PCs we got to play on were bad (Graphics settings, FPS, Stutters/Lags) , but i got a cool shirt from them which i occasionally wear now :D
for me, there are many things this game can not beat tarkov, but yes there are many things in this game beat tarkov very well. but if must choose one of them, i will pick tarkov for the hardcore playstyle. this is personal opinion.
When talking about anti cheats i do generally think that titanfall had one of the best, still to this day, because you get a silence ban, only way to know if you have gotten a ban is when you notice you only get in que with others that tend to cheat, think that if these types of anti cheat works not only with cheating but with greefing and lets say leaving early to many times the game should have like a timer that recognizes how many mins of the match you played before you left and what the leave early % of your total playtime is and generally only get in ques with people that got similar player score. Well wich of are based on your elo or kd and early leave or if you are or have been cheating, the higher score the better, and not showing this numbers to the players ads time for cheaters and greefers to realize that they got a ban
The people that call you spineless for enjoying the good aspects of this game are the same people that bought Concord and defend it for being a great game, and also are probably completely fine with the monetization decisions taken by EA in Apex Legends. I wish they would make separate servers, one for pay to win and the other zero micro-transactions. I would play this for endless hours if they had separate servers for that, maybe do micro-transactions for only cosmetic stuff on the other server to make it financially viable for them. 300k requirement to get into maps? i get you don't have to pay to get in but locking maps unlessyou have a certain amount of money you can pay for is wild to me... it sucks so much considering i have tried it and played it & enjoyed what i played
For forbidden mode it is 300k, for lockdown 100k. These limitations need to be there so that there isn't any naked operators running at a place where most people are heavily geared and where there is better loot spawns, it makes total sense. Also you do have to pay to get into maps, about 20k for lockdown. If you want better loot you better have to take your better loot rather than something you can throw away.

The people who complain about the P2W are people who don’t even play the game. I’ve never had an instance where I’ve even considered putting money into the game. The amount of free gear the game gives you on a regular basis, makes it where you usually don’t even have to run scav(covert). The biggest complaint I have is the lack of maps and missions.

If you're crying about P2W. You're either not good at the game. Or you just dont understand the market system. Havent dropped a dime on this game and my win/loss is probably 50/50. Whenever i lose valued loot, i always manage to gain it back by either looting my kills, missions, scavenging or the market from scavenging. Its a great balance between EFT and DMZ. If you still dont like it then extraction shooters probably just arent for you
wtf is that 144ms ping ? Gives you a big disadvantage over others under 100ms. I guess something is up with your connection, pair up with a different server, did it on purpose to pair up in foreign regions for the technical test ? Or...simply you were matched in a bad server.
i have actually jumped back in this weekend also, but not on the new stuff yet. I did have fun, but seemed kinda dead. matchmaking mostly sent me in solo in the first map cause nobody was playing it. I hope the season 1 pumps a lil more life into the game. The biggest problem i have seen is the fact that the ammo is unbalanced. meaning everyone is running m61, its not worth running anything else because it is just too good. so all the people i watched testing were like nobody is even using the new stuff cause the m61 FAL is the Meta.

no matter how much more maps they will add in tarkov ill just keep playing shoreline resort and get big ass backpack filled with 4 rigs and all the loot inside of them, tarkov is just boring and repepetive, i just like the combat inside shoreline resort cause audio is so fucked up (vertical audio) thats its soo easy to just run around and disorient people :D + its way too easy to make money in tarkov but most people are just noobs and die to scavs to the bullshit and pointless head throat hitbox, those new hitboxes kinda ruined the game tbh, no point in wearing anything better than just thorax protection cause almost everything pens neck lvl 3 (i got 1 tapped with green tracer trough lvl 3 neck protection which cant even penetrate paca lvl 2)
I am not a fan of the ability to buy koen with real money. Secure cases are fine, the game is free so they need to make money somehow. I don't however believe it is "pay to win". As far as I am aware you can get anything in this game without paying money. If something was locked away behind a paywall that gave a truly unfair advantage then that, to me, is pay to win. Game is fun and a nice change from Tarkov.
Its funny hearing tarkov guns audio directly imported lol on the first 2 shooting scenes. NGL I dislike tarkov heavily right now, but without a shadow of a doubt, ABI has some of tarkovs assets in use. Great game, some bad designs though. The recoil is awful, and i really wish there was at least a 2x2 container offered for free. Enough for a surgery kit and 2 stacks of ammo.

The game is good and optimized. Steam reviews won't mean anything. People enjoy it, and people dislike it. If Tarkov was on Steam, it would have mixed or mostly negative reviews. I've never been in an ABI lobby where people complain about P2W. The people complaining either don't play it or they aren't good at the game.
Inexperienced players who buy t6 gear usually get owned. The good players aren't buying in game currency for gear, they are taking it. Most people money on the secure case.
Give the game a try if you are on the fence.

@ yeah has great mechanics. I wouldn’t say it’d cripple tarkov, tarkov offers 1000x more depth and lore and environment design than Abi. It’s definitely a good casual option

My biggest gripe is loot value. I'm barely making the koen I spend on my kits. The incentive to spend IRL money is unreal.

It’s all about getting other players gear. The rich get richer and the poor get poorer. I’d advise to spend the extra money on that year 5 kit as you will live longer and get more player gear.

The game is honestly phenomenal. The pay to win aspect really doesn’t affect the specialized grind that you can set for yourself and there’s already tons of ways to earn money and have a good time either way. I’m up 22mil and haven’t spent a dime
In early season you call pay 2 win because you can buy gear and ammo but you cannot guaranteed to extract. Later season f2p can catch up to people because there's no wipe. Based on my experience all people playing t7 during night and fog event

This game implemented in their game what tarkov already has in terms of "pay2win". You can hop on any site and buy roubles and stuff, pay for better versions of the game with better gear and ammo and gamma case. They saw how people really are interested in buying that stuff they implemented it in their game to make the money themselves instead of letting other people make money off of their backs. Thay's how i see it.
yup in tarkov you can have 10x the money for 10x less of the price and this way the money is going directly to support the development of the product and doesnt incentivize cheaters to run a business within the game. on top of that making the devs actually have to care about cheaters because they dont thrive off housing that playstyle like bsg does.

Fry, do you really believe steam reviews are a good measurement in modern times? I feel like if a bandwagon take gains traction it could go in any direction. All it takes is one creator with a large following to say the game is good or bad for it to swing in either direction, regardless of the rating.

The implementation is way better than Tarbug but the game is flat, you can remove lvl and quest and the game would feel the same. Progression is unexistent and the economy is terrible
Exactly. A less buggy version of Tarkov that had quick matchmaking time, some QoL features would be the ultimate game.
The game is impressive and the PvP experience is good, but you still have to move around a map that feels soulless, cheesy sounding AI voice lines, and a shit economy that’s trying to force you to buy in game currency with real money…
Not to mention to get a 6 slot container they want $120 a year. I get it, but that container should be no more than $5/$60 a year. Making me pay nearly the cost of Tarkov Edge of Darkness edition EVERY year for a container is CRAZY WORK.
Tons of cheats and the meta is either cycle helmets and one tappers or naked with mosin and level 7 ammo. Because the game has almost 0 bullet drop and you can see your team mates on the map at all times, the game boils down to very wide, perfect flanks.

Expand the weapon view model in your games because when playing, the weapon takes up half of the screen and we cannot see the surroundings, we feel like it is right under our noses and this ruins the gaming experience.

Are you playing on 1080p because that's most likely thr cause. Game looks ass on resolutions under 1440p. Unfortunately it's becoming common for games to do that these days

the false ban situation is absolutely insane. I don't cheat in games and caught a 3 day "observation period" and I am not running anything beyond my mouse and keyboard software and audio software for my headset. I can't support a game like this that casually gives out false bans to players who did nothing wrong and make us lose out on things I spent real money for like a 3x2 secure case. So frustrating.

Unfortunately i was dissappointed by this game at Gamescom of this year, because the PCs we got to play on were bad (Graphics settings, FPS, Stutters/Lags) , but i got a cool shirt from them which i occasionally wear now :D

When talking about anti cheats i do generally think that titanfall had one of the best, still to this day, because you get a silence ban, only way to know if you have gotten a ban is when you notice you only get in que with others that tend to cheat, think that if these types of anti cheat works not only with cheating but with greefing and lets say leaving early to many times the game should have like a timer that recognizes how many mins of the match you played before you left and what the leave early % of your total playtime is and generally only get in ques with people that got similar player score. Well wich of are based on your elo or kd and early leave or if you are or have been cheating, the higher score the better, and not showing this numbers to the players ads time for cheaters and greefers to realize that they got a ban

The people that call you spineless for enjoying the good aspects of this game are the same people that bought Concord and defend it for being a great game, and also are probably completely fine with the monetization decisions taken by EA in Apex Legends. I wish they would make separate servers, one for pay to win and the other zero micro-transactions. I would play this for endless hours if they had separate servers for that, maybe do micro-transactions for only cosmetic stuff on the other server to make it financially viable for them. 300k requirement to get into maps? i get you don't have to pay to get in but locking maps unlessyou have a certain amount of money you can pay for is wild to me... it sucks so much considering i have tried it and played it & enjoyed what i played
For forbidden mode it is 300k, for lockdown 100k. These limitations need to be there so that there isn't any naked operators running at a place where most people are heavily geared and where there is better loot spawns, it makes total sense. Also you do have to pay to get into maps, about 20k for lockdown. If you want better loot you better have to take your better loot rather than something you can throw away.

1) Tarkov would load matches just as quickly
2) Tarkov would do as many events as this game does on a regular basis, events that are actually fun
BTW this game is actually harder compared to Tarkov, it’s easy to make money in Tarkov and a lot more difficult in Arena breakout

The people who complain about the P2W are people who don’t even play the game. I’ve never had an instance where I’ve even considered putting money into the game. The amount of free gear the game gives you on a regular basis, makes it where you usually don’t even have to run scav(covert). The biggest complaint I have is the lack of maps and missions.

If you're crying about P2W. You're either not good at the game. Or you just dont understand the market system. Havent dropped a dime on this game and my win/loss is probably 50/50. Whenever i lose valued loot, i always manage to gain it back by either looting my kills, missions, scavenging or the market from scavenging. Its a great balance between EFT and DMZ. If you still dont like it then extraction shooters probably just arent for you

i have actually jumped back in this weekend also, but not on the new stuff yet. I did have fun, but seemed kinda dead. matchmaking mostly sent me in solo in the first map cause nobody was playing it. I hope the season 1 pumps a lil more life into the game. The biggest problem i have seen is the fact that the ammo is unbalanced. meaning everyone is running m61, its not worth running anything else because it is just too good. so all the people i watched testing were like nobody is even using the new stuff cause the m61 FAL is the Meta.
I would absolutely never consider steam reviews. It's all too often, reviews on steam, are just copy pasta, or not even focused on the game itself, at all. Steam reviews USED to be worth reading. Now, just a waste of time.
no matter how much more maps they will add in tarkov ill just keep playing shoreline resort and get big ass backpack filled with 4 rigs and all the loot inside of them, tarkov is just boring and repepetive, i just like the combat inside shoreline resort cause audio is so fucked up (vertical audio) thats its soo easy to just run around and disorient people :D + its way too easy to make money in tarkov but most people are just noobs and die to scavs to the bullshit and pointless head throat hitbox, those new hitboxes kinda ruined the game tbh, no point in wearing anything better than just thorax protection cause almost everything pens neck lvl 3 (i got 1 tapped with green tracer trough lvl 3 neck protection which cant even penetrate paca lvl 2)
I am not a fan of the ability to buy koen with real money. Secure cases are fine, the game is free so they need to make money somehow. I don't however believe it is "pay to win". As far as I am aware you can get anything in this game without paying money. If something was locked away behind a paywall that gave a truly unfair advantage then that, to me, is pay to win. Game is fun and a nice change from Tarkov.
Doesn't have PvE, so I'll stick to vanilla and SPT Tarkov, and hope for Gray Zone to fix their performance

Its funny hearing tarkov guns audio directly imported lol on the first 2 shooting scenes. NGL I dislike tarkov heavily right now, but without a shadow of a doubt, ABI has some of tarkovs assets in use. Great game, some bad designs though. The recoil is awful, and i really wish there was at least a 2x2 container offered for free. Enough for a surgery kit and 2 stacks of ammo.
The recoil is so garbage in this game. It’s not even a skill thing. It’s like we’re playing as mil-con enthusiasts larping as operators/pmcs who never shot a real weapon before. Firing my weapon in a video game shouldn’t feel like a mini-game in and of itself.
Dude seriously, if you’ve ever actually engaged with the game, like actually playing for a while, not just in short bursts for video purposes like you do, you should find out by now that the so called “P2W” elements are a non-issue, seriously anyone who still thinks it’s a problem or “what’s holding the game back” just go play the game for a week in a row, and tell me if at any moment you feel the slightest need to buy any amount of Koen, your answer will be no.
