I collect nothing but Timex. I just bought the Timex reissue of the 34mm Marlin. It is the same watch my Grandfather used to wear. I'm 57 and I feel like a little kid how much I love this watch. I own a 12 watch collection and all Timex. I have a feeling the others will be in the watch box for a while because the Marlin is not coming off my wrist anytime soon. I also am in love with the reissue of the Q with Snoopy at the six o clock position. Love, love all my Timex watches.

I just love vintage all together. I love working on them. You and I are close to favorite era's though my favorite expands out just a bit further.
      I am a huge fan of 1920's to around 1950, mid 50's.
There was just so much going on in the world, so many beautiful automobiles being made to look streamlined and still hold timeless. The watch fashion always hugged closely to the automobile industry. But in watches, there were just so many great things being developed. From Wyler watches being released using the 1 part steel case and their 2 part stem system. From Bulova creating beautiful cases , military issued watches being utilized for navigation , I mean it just goes on and on.
But in regards to Timex watches. You are so correct. There dials were absolutely stunning! Still today - STILL!! AFTER ALL THESE YRS. You can open up a Timex from the 50's and 60's and I believe you could easily get lost in time just adoring these beautiful dials, embracing the clear direction that Timex was intending to go and with so much foresight. Not compressing quality, looks or finishes in the least little bit.
I mean how many companies were producing mechanical watches , whether just utilizing a pin lever or it being a 17 jewel manual wind for under 35 dollars(more like under 20) with gold plated dials, gold brush finish, deep rich paint schemes that were so detailed. Many high level , mass quantity vintage brands could not release watches with dials as beautiful as Timex dials.
Still to this dial, many times during the week I am constantly impressed by their dials.

@@ElijahQuinVWR u sound like me! I love everything vintage i daily drive a 1967 impala i have a 63 ford galaxie 67 plymouth fury and 69 chevy c10 truck ive actually owned over 34 vehicles thats wat i do im a machinist i could make 5 paragraphs about how i made my 67 impala handle and drive like cars of today with suspension and drivetrain but i dont want to get off base of wat i was saying about "vintage" i loved how people dressed in the 50s i really wish people today still did, the way women had there hair and put more effort in the cloths they wore how men no matter wat they did for a liveing wore suits and hats it was just the way of life, it was something we as humans lost today we have the computer n internet and people think we are connected more today than we ever have been like how im comunicateing with you some1 i dont even know personally but we are so far from the real conection we had back then how familys sat down and ate dinner at a table the same time everyday and talked about how each ones day was and what they did, there was a real conection between people, people were friendly ,trusting and polite to neibors even strangers ,, it really was a time and lifestyle we have lost or traded away for tecnology it was a whole different way of life. If it was up to me i would live in the 1950s tbe atomic i have over 70 watches my favorites are the 1920s because they were hand crafted and some real time was put into them but i really like the dials of the atomic era ! I was born in the 1980s and like i always say to people that love the same things from the past...it truely is a shame we missed a real good time to be alive!

Dismantled about 20 Timex completely and put them together after cleaning, no problem. The base plates are held by screws and are certainly not riveted. There are videos how to do that.

      @dirkvanniekerk5741 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Tricky as hell to get the plate back on. But I've done it too. I've also removed, cleaned and reassembled the mainspring. Not difficult at all.
Last watch I did was replacing the hairspring. That was a mission of note. But seriously rewarding whe. The watch runs. These are tricky and difficult, but worth doing.

@@dirkvanniekerk5741 I've only done one Timex and yes you are right all the way around... one tip a guy gave me on a watch forum is to use silicone movement holders and when the train wheels are in place and you get the top plate on, sandwich the movement between 2 silicone holders to flip it over... that was the hardest part for me to figure out the first time was how to get the screws back in without knocking the pivots out of position. @@ElijahQuinVWR What gets Timex watches running better is a new mainspring. Measure the old one so you can order a new mainspring. Don't expect to find a Timex replacement. Buy a new white aloy spring for it of the right size. Use Moebius mainspring grease to lube the spring and arbor.

Have you noticed they made that movement so you can still access the two pivots under the keyless works without removing any of it? The minute setting wheel has two holes in it to access one, and the other is accessible through a big hole in the rocking bar. I guess Timex were making it as easy as possible for the repairman?

Just found this video, I have a 1973 Timex, I got it when I was a teenager. It still runs and I love it due to the memory of getting my first watch. The only issue I have is that even though I have adjusted the hair spring to the slowest setting it gains time. It must be running to fast. Is there anything I could do to get it to keep accurate or at least close to accurate time. I was told that it might be magnetized. Thanks for any info.

Sorry for the delayed response. I am unable to advise what you should do. ,it could be a number of things. I could give 10 things to do , in order to check the movement out.
Since the piece is basically an Heirloom I would advise you to pay the coin. To have it professionally overhauled.

Good work! These crude movements don't need the precise attention that a jeweled movement does. If you blow the pivots out with a compressed canned air straw after cleaning them assembled, you can get the pivots very clean before re-oiling. They will run forever with minor attention like this.

I am personally getting these direct from the mines in 5 regions internationally and 4 regions in the states. I am unclear why I never even saw or new of most of these messages from my subscribers and individuals who were curious.
I'm here. I'll make sure things get linked up correctly
I'll need to figure out a way to address everyone . I am very responsive in business. Missing all these opportunities to work with all of you , its unsettling. But that was then and I am in the NOW!
I am on this Facebook page all day every day. Please all of you interested in seeing more work. It all gets posted to this fb page. Whats on my youtube is not even 5 percent of what all I did over thz years.

Timex is the reason ALL watches must say water resistant instead of water proof. The now sought after very 1st runs of Marlins. Have water proof on them. Idk the year or serial number they made the change. But keep a weather eye out for them as they are worth more even non working. I absolutly love them as well. I just sold a automatic. Yep they made an automatic version of this movement. In their standard non Marlin. I wonder if Casio had to buy the name from Timex as even a model they no longer make. The name was Timex brand model. Timex is now offering a mechanical watch but its price cuts it out for many. As Timex was always affordable and a option for the working man. I understand the watches are priced ok but. If im going to buy a winder today. The only non Swiss option IMHO is gonna be a Seiko 5. Timex will have to run the very same time gauntlet of reliability Seiko has run with their proven movements before I buy one at the price

I did not know that. The Caravelle sport was the model. The sport is very similar to the 333 Caravelle. But the sport has the 11dp manual wind movement that was made in Japan. The 333 had an automatic movement

Yes, you can use lighter fluid to clean the mechanicals, but you need correct oils and grease to properly lubricate the proper points or the movement will only run for a short time.
