Fun fact: a couple of moments in the movie were actually animation glitches that were kept in because they enhanced the scene. For instance, in the Downed Dragon scene Toothless's eye was supposed to be closed, but a glitch kept them open. The animators thought it looked better like that, so they kept it. In addition, at the olend of the Forbidden Friendship scene when Toothless was putting his nose into Hiccup's hand, you can notice some slight hesitation. My favorite moment in this movie is one she didn't show. It's very small, but I think hugely important. It's after Hickup and Stoic have their fight, and Stoic walks out saying "You're not my son." Immediately after that moment, the "camera" focusses on Stoic as he stands outside, and you can see the weight of what he just did hit him. He realizes right away that he made a mistake, but because of his stuborn pride, he can't take it back. I love that moment, because it shows that Stoic isn't just "the bad parent." He's not a bad guy at all, he's just a parent who has completely different values from their child, and because of that doesn't know how to communicate with him. And now, he realizes he may have made the biggest mistake in his life, but he can't make ammends, because he meant almost everything he said. I think that's a powerful message. Sometimes, when your parents yell at you, it's not because they hate you, even if you think they said they do. It's because they are people too, and people make mistakes.

I used to babysit my niece a lot. When my sister would drop her off she'd always bring a movie to watch during our sitting time. Thank you Addie for mentioning the music. It's one of , I think the most memorable parts in the movie. Like when He first gains control and flying down the cliff side just clearing the trees with Toothless's wings spread wide. I love this movie so much! And this is one of the rare times when each sequel is even better than the last. I'm looking forward to joining you on this journey.
So happy you’re reacting to this! This has got to be my favourite film series of all time. I grew up with these movies and they mean so much to me ❤️ It hits especially hard rn too since the main online rpg game School of Dragons is shutting down at the end of this month after almost 10 years. And it’s been 3 and a half years since the last (main series) content (and it’s unlikely there’ll be any more). It’s heartbreaking and it feels like the end of an era so it’s nice to see new fans getting into the series 💔 Hope you love this series anywhere near as much as I do!
I'm still so glad that they actually managed to make a just awesome trilogy without one movie being any bad. As others already mentioned, it is rare to find a movie trilogy where all movies are considered good or even great.

There are actually two HTTYD tv series that are fun to watch. The first takes place between movies 1&2 and the second series takes place between movies 2&3.
It's funny, because Hiccup is really the best Viking. He found a better way for them to survive and is clever and invents things. And Toothless is really one of the cutest animated creatures. He reminds me of a big cat, he has attitude and his mannerisms are amazing. I had a orange cat named Hiro, he would go out in the gravel and just roll around just like Toothless lol. The animated show is worth watching as well.
Glad you enjoyed this. This is a great film (as are the rest) and the music score is awesome. Considering it's supposed to be a kids movie, it truly has a universal appeal and works on so many levels, it's not surprising that this is a favourite of many adults.
What's with Dreamworks and their trilogies? This and Kung Fu Panda battle it out as some of the best trilogies ever made (oh and Shrek except for the third). They also make such awesome villains. As a trilogy, they're both in my top 10 best animated movies of all times, and that's some tough competition with both Disney, Pixar and Studio Ghibli in the mix.
There is a channel called Sideways that did a really hoot breakdown of the music, especially how it is introduced and how it goes through the themes and leitmotifs.
Indeed the best animated trilogy that doesn't age at all.. The music is the just perfect, I still listen to it in my drives. My childhood revolved around how to train your dragon as I was 7 when this one came out and just mesmerized me. There are three series that take place between this movie and the second one that fleshes out the characters. One of them being called "race to the edge" which has 6 seasons and 13 episodes each. It's the best series as well and would suggest if you watch them to Other then that great you watched this movie and hope you'll react to the other 2 as well.
If you haven't watched the second one yet, watch How to Train Your Dragon: Race to the Edge first. It spans the five years that elapsed between HTTYD 1 and 2.
I have three dragons. The only training they have is recognizing when it's feeding time. Lol. This is such an amazing franchise with amazing voice talent, a moving score, and a well crafted story!
Yes Addie! This is my favourite movie of all time! And all of the movies in this series are wonderful. This one's ending always makes me tear up and the music goes so hard I listen to the Soundtrack in my own time. Just a 10/10 movie I never get tired of watching. Can't wait for you to watch the others (there's a TV series and mini-films as well, but not important).
I’m a big fan of the How To Train Your Dragon movies and also Lilo and Stitch. I can’t remember his name but the artist who designed Stitch had a hand in designing Toothless. There’s a LOT of “stuff” out there featuring them both. My favorite is Stitch wearing a Toothless Halloween costume and vice versa.
Easily my top animated movie series. I love the characters and the concepts the movies explore. It's a great balance of emotion and critical thinking. And yes, the music is phenomenal. Just hearing their flight song is enough to make my eyes water up with happiness.
this movie came out in the same year as avatar and when i saw them both in the theater, i thought that this movie did the "dragon ride romance" thing waaaaaaaaaay better than avatar. and the music is like... perfect. another one of those cartoons where i had zero expectation and just ended up loving it more than i could have imagined. visually, what really got me was how they did toothless's eyes like a cat. soo cute. and also the amazing sense of SCALE for the boss dragon. that thing looked sooooo impressive.
I think you’ll love the next 2 films! :) Besides the movie trilogy there’s also short films, tv shows and comics that are fun and do a lot of good expanding the world building and relationships! Def recommend checking them out at some point! The shows (Riders of Berk, Defenders of Berk and Race to the Edge) take place between the first and second movie (though the latter came out after the second movie) and the 2 main comics (The Serpent’s Heir and Dragonvine. As well as an unfortunately unreleased third volume called The Fire Tides that Audrie Greywind did an interview with one of the writers on that summarises it and is worth watching) take place between the second and third movie. The short films are Legend of the Boneknapper, Book of Dragons, Gift of the Night Fury (all taking place between HTTYD and Riders of Berk I think), Dawn of the Dragon Racers (between Defenders of Berk and Race to the Edge) and Homecoming (after the third and final film. Though technically it takes place before the end of the film) The chronological timeline is something like this; How to Train Your Dragon (movie, 2010) Legend of the Boneknapper (short film, 2010) Book of Dragons (short film, 2011) Gift of the Night Fury (short film, 2011) Riders of Berk (tv series, 2012-2013) Defenders of Berk (tv series, 2013-2014) Dawn of the Dragon Racers (short film, 2014) Race to the Edge (Netflix series, 2015-2018) How to Train Your Dragon 2 (movie, 2014) The Serpent’s Heir (comic, 2017) Dragonvine (comic, 2018) The Fire Tides (comic, unpublished but will hopefully be released someday!) How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World (movie, 2019) Homecoming (short film, 2019)
This trilogy, and the (unconnected, solo) movie Rise of the Guardians, are my favourites from DreamWorks. So emotional and such great stories. Thank you for a lovely reaction. Definitely Kleenex-worthy.
I agree the music is truly epic. The first one in the trilogy is still my favourite of the 3. I have also heard good things about the TV series (Race To The Edge specifically).
One of the greatest animated movie trilogies ever along with Kung fu panda! Know you'll love these movies Addie great reaction as always!😊 You should definitley do the sequels and i predict your gonna be obssesed with Toothless after all 3 😂
I don't think that I can count the number of animated (usually Disney) movies growing up. I never miss an opportunity to watch animated movies especially from Pixar and Dreamworks who are masters at the stories just as much as the visuals and sounds.
Welcome to Dreamworks. How To Train Your Dragon 1 is arguably their best film, but all 3 parts of the trilogy are fantastic too. Other great films in their catalog that I highly recommend are the Kung Fu Panda trilogy, Shrek 1 and Shrek 2, Megamind, The Prince of Egypt, Spirit 2002, and Puss in Boots: Last Wish. Very underrated studio with peaks rivaling Disney and even Pixar.
I have seen a lot of people talking about toothless and his design. He was actually a combination of all the main pets the designer could think of, as well as stitch. And in the books he looks like a terrible terror. In the movie he’s based off of hiccups other dragon from the books. Fair statement though, there aren’t too many similarities between the books and movies and everyone says the movies are better.
Well, let’s be honest, Addie… We all knew you’d get emotional over this movie, but it appears that parts 2 and 3 are going to break you. Good luck, and I can’t wait to see your reactions to them.😌🙏
My favorite movie, always happy to see more people experience it :) Definitely watch all three movies, they're all amazing :) (Also one of the few movies where I would notice the music being pitched down in the edit :) Have to avoid copyright somehow...)
So... when this movie was being made, they had a lot of problems. So they brought in Dean Deblois and Chris Saunders to save and fix this movie. Dean was a friend of mine when we were kids. I haven't spoken to him in over 30 years though, but in high school everyone knew he would end up working for Disney and make it big as an animator and creator... he was that good in high school!
One of the few trilogies where choosing a favourite is near impossible but also one of the few trilogies where the first one is not necessarily the best one.
This is hands down the best animated movie & holds a special place in my heart! - even better: it's one of those rare trilogies where each film gets better & better, you won't be disappointed!

This is probably my favorite non Disney/Pixar movie series. The music alone is incredible, but the voice acting and story are top notch as well.
This is a actually one of my favorite of Dreamworks, im a dragon fanatic but even better a story of two beings learning their limits and where they need their help. The heart of that dragon is what you fall with and the flaws of Hiccup that is honed as strength
Thank you Addie for mentioning the music. It's one of , I think the most memorable parts in the movie. Like when He first gains control and flying down the cliff side just clearing the trees with Toothless's wings spread wide. I guess it's good when sometimes people don't bring it to the front because it is hidden so well you don't remember how it made you feel. so many majestic moment to hide in. Many Commenter's don't even bring up the musical sound track which is one of my favorite parts. NOW on to part TWO !
I love this movie so much! And this is one of the rare times when each sequel is even better than the last. I'm looking forward to joining you on this journey.
Half of the playlist for our wedding ceremony is from this movie 🥰 My fiancee is going to walk down the aisle to 'romantic flight'
So happy you’re reacting to this! This has got to be my favourite film series of all time. I grew up with these movies and they mean so much to me ❤️
It hits especially hard rn too since the main online rpg game School of Dragons is shutting down at the end of this month after almost 10 years. And it’s been 3 and a half years since the last (main series) content (and it’s unlikely there’ll be any more). It’s heartbreaking and it feels like the end of an era so it’s nice to see new fans getting into the series 💔
Hope you love this series anywhere near as much as I do!
Your A pendant now stands for Astrid 😀One of my favorite movies of all time!❤
Definitely watch the whole trilogy, and the spinoff series are great too.
I'm still so glad that they actually managed to make a just awesome trilogy without one movie being any bad.
As others already mentioned, it is rare to find a movie trilogy where all movies are considered good or even great.
My family has strong Norse roots. I'm a beekeeper and make mead from a 150 year old family recipe. We share it with the neighbours every summer solstice. We use the honey from apple orchards that we pollinate in spring and summer then mix it with cinnamon and brown sugar.
Best mead you'll ever taste.
Wow 😳 I want to taste can you send some here 😋 to India
@@nidheeshkumar6760 I wish I could friend! I'm in Canada and it sadly wouldn't get past border security.
My wife and I have been seriously considering getting a liquor license and opening a meadery.
@@shinrapresident7010 good luck for your upcoming business I am not a big drinker or even regular drinker I just want to taste every food and drink available on earth
I've always liked mythical creatures but Dragons have always been one of my absolute favorites. Like Addie, this movie makes me want to have a dragon.
There are actually two HTTYD tv series that are fun to watch. The first takes place between movies 1&2 and the second series takes place between movies 2&3.
Adore everything about this Trilogy!❤ ❤
ya each film gets better and better ...and more emotional. cant wait for the other reactions!
What a beatiful smile!!!
It's the best series as well and would suggest if you watch them to
Other then that great you watched this movie and hope you'll react to the other 2 as well.
One of the best animated trilogies that i still enjoy to this day,
Someone-It's a pity Hiccup didn't kill the dragon when he had the chance.
Someone else-Pity? It was pity that stayed Hiccup's hand.
Yes Addie! This is my favourite movie of all time! And all of the movies in this series are wonderful. This one's ending always makes me tear up and the music goes so hard I listen to the Soundtrack in my own time. Just a 10/10 movie I never get tired of watching. Can't wait for you to watch the others (there's a TV series and mini-films as well, but not important).
stoick disowning hiccup is truly scary and heart breaking
I’m a big fan of the How To Train Your Dragon movies and also Lilo and Stitch. I can’t remember his name but the artist who designed Stitch had a hand in designing Toothless. There’s a LOT of “stuff” out there featuring them both. My favorite is Stitch wearing a Toothless Halloween costume and vice versa.
Easily my top animated movie series. I love the characters and the concepts the movies explore. It's a great balance of emotion and critical thinking. And yes, the music is phenomenal. Just hearing their flight song is enough to make my eyes water up with happiness.
a absolute gem of a movie
LOL 14:10 gets me every time. Love how they sneak adult jokes into these
You need to see the sequel of this right away
this movie came out in the same year as avatar and when i saw them both in the theater, i thought that this movie did the "dragon ride romance" thing waaaaaaaaaay better than avatar. and the music is like... perfect. another one of those cartoons where i had zero expectation and just ended up loving it more than i could have imagined.
visually, what really got me was how they did toothless's eyes like a cat. soo cute. and also the amazing sense of SCALE for the boss dragon. that thing looked sooooo impressive.
Toothless remains me of my first cat. She likes to steal my pencil and trys to put it down on paper lol
Brilliant soundtrack and you will love this trilogy.
I think you’ll love the next 2 films! :)
Besides the movie trilogy there’s also short films, tv shows and comics that are fun and do a lot of good expanding the world building and relationships!
Though technically it takes place before the end of the film)
The chronological timeline is something like this;
How to Train Your Dragon (movie, 2010)
Legend of the Boneknapper (short film, 2010)
Book of Dragons (short film, 2011)
Gift of the Night Fury (short film, 2011)
Riders of Berk (tv series, 2012-2013)
Defenders of Berk (tv series, 2013-2014)
Dawn of the Dragon Racers (short film, 2014)
Race to the Edge (Netflix series, 2015-2018)
How to Train Your Dragon 2 (movie, 2014)
The Serpent’s Heir (comic, 2017)
Dragonvine (comic, 2018)
The Fire Tides (comic, unpublished but will hopefully be released someday!)
How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World (movie, 2019)
Homecoming (short film, 2019)
amazing reaction!
The story of this is great, but the soundtrack really made me love this one.
Race to the edge is peak httyd and is the best part of the canon timeline without a doubt.
A Great reaction to a great film with lots of ❤ and great characters and as you said music.
One of my favorite movies ever
One of the greatest animated movie trilogies ever along with Kung fu panda! Know you'll love these movies Addie great reaction as always!😊 You should definitley do the sequels and i predict your gonna be obssesed with Toothless after all 3 😂
No one ever notices David Tennant in this. It's 1 line but still. "We've done it!!"
Also he plays Snoutlouts father, Stoutlout I believe is his name
Edit: Correction. Google has confirmed its actually Spitelout
The youtube algorithm really knows what I want to watch
22:00 Kiccup is the most viking of them all, he's pragmatic yet reckless and he has a problem with authority.
The artist in charge of the toothless animation based him on his own black cat
there's also a tv series with the same voice cast, witch is set before the 2nd movie. As well as a couple short films
yes... yes it is perfection!!
Oh boy, tears are coming in the next 2 movies, better go get some tissues
I have seen a lot of people talking about toothless and his design. He was actually a combination of all the main pets the designer could think of, as well as stitch. And in the books he looks like a terrible terror. In the movie he’s based off of hiccups other dragon from the books. Fair statement though, there aren’t too many similarities between the books and movies and everyone says the movies are better.
Toothless is just goated ❤
10:59 It's based on a cat🐈❤
Beautiful movie. Beautiful reaction.
amazing movies always have my heart
Well, let’s be honest, Addie… We all knew you’d get emotional over this movie, but it appears that parts 2 and 3 are going to break you.
Good luck, and I can’t wait to see your reactions to them.😌🙏
My favorite movie, always happy to see more people experience it :) Definitely watch all three movies, they're all amazing :)
(Also one of the few movies where I would notice the music being pitched down in the edit :) Have to avoid copyright somehow...)
there's like a 5 season show about what happens in between 1 and 2 movies, because there's a bit of a time jump in there
So... when this movie was being made, they had a lot of problems.
- Live Free or Die Hard.
- A Good Day for Die Hard.
Thank's!!!
This is hands down the best animated movie & holds a special place in my heart! -
even better: it's one of those rare trilogies where each film gets better & better, you won't be disappointed!
I can't believe we have not reacted to it before today. Better late than never, I guess. It is one of the best animationed movies around. I am glad you enjoyed it...
Who's "we"? 🤨
As you can tell by my username, this is one of my all-time favourite franchises (not so much Harry Potter, I just liked the alliteration.) I consider the second one one of the best movies objectively, but whenever I go to rewatch one, I always find myself picking the first. It's just such a beautiful story.
The greatest animated trilogy of all time
My favorite movie of all time
this & Kung Fu Panda are 2 incredible entries from Dreamworks 🙌🔥🍻
with this trilogy, John Powell put his name alongside the greats like John Williams or Hans Zimmer, each time i see his name on a movie, i know the music at least is going to be on point.
Youn should look at this add for N°3 (spoiler free) it's titled "TOOTHLESS Hits JON SNOW!"
