With the v5, I experienced the same pressure on the big toe that you did. I felt inside and found a rough area where the silver reflective piece is stitched to the dark leather overlay. It's a thick, rough patch that could easily be the cause of irritation and rubbing on the big toe. It's a shame NB hasn't corrected this flaw. The NB shoe that does NOT have this problem and is completely smooth on the inside of the toe area is the 993. It's similar in appearance to the 990 but it has a deeper toe box and no seams or stitching on the inside to rub on the toes. It's a great shoe -- in my opinion, the best shoe NB has every made -- good looks, great support and comfort. Really appreciate this video, thanks!

I can now say that the v6 are my fav! (And didn’t like them at all when I first saw pics). I had the same problem with my v5, my nail pushed the mudguard and felt weird
Most people claim to like the v3 the best because it’s the one they’re the most familiar with having recently gotten into NBs, and the v3 being the focus at this moment. 3-4years ago…before most of these “new” NB people knew much about NB, the v4 was the favorite amongst people who wear NB. And the v4 was given a lot more attention and colorways.

One of the best comparison videos of the 990 line on TH-cam. I agree, v3 is the best. And the v5 fitting was a good note. Also felt it's a bit short compared to the v4 and v3, that's why i personally went TTS

I have grey 990v2, 990v3 joe freshgoods and this 990v6. I like them all but I found 990v6 is very appealing to me because v6 captures most features of its predecessors and blends them well.
Yup it's looks the best in terms of styling, I don't even like shoes that look like running shoes but definitely is better than all their models before

I always go TTS with all my "Made in" New Balance shoes. The v4 is my all time favourite. Won a v6 on StockX (hasn't released yet in Europe). I wonder how they fit :)

I've tried the 990v2 in the store because I enjoy the design and silhouette, but found my toes got crushed. The 990v2 front midsole is thinner as well, so I found that lifting my foot from the ground upwards felt abrupt and less supported than 990v3s and onward. I bought the 990v5 because it was the most comfortable overall for my wide-ish feet. Thank you for the video, I'm contemplating the v6 for comfort so this was very helpful.
Recently started getting into nb and really wish I saw this video before buying the 990v6.. v3 or v2 would've been my pick

V6 is overall the most comfortable on foot imo; V3 is still my favorite though, V2 over V5 even though I wear my V5 more; I don’t have a V1(just not my style); and they’ve been slacking on V4, but I have faith Teddy will make good on more V4 models soon. Great video!

I started with the original 990's in high school when they were first released. I have them all except the v6 and I prefer the v4 and v5 the most so far. The v3 still looks weird to me. It's comfortable but, it's definitely the strangest looking one.
I have the exact issue on V5 - glad I am not the only one
Having a wider feet, I started sizing 0.5 up in my v5 which were also my first 990 pair back in 2019. I stuck with sizing up in all other 990 models and I don’t regret it. Really enjoying the more relaxed fit. Comfort wise and due to fuel cell the v6 is really great, the overall look had to grow on me though. I am still not 100% convinced but excited to see what Teddy‘s gonna do with them. My list would be v3 > v4 > v5 > v2 > v6 > v1

Awesome comparison of the 990s! Btw, since I tend to fluctuate between 9.5 and 10 on sneakers. Would you mind sharing maybe other brand shoes/models you wear to have a reference point for sizing? Like say a Jordan 1, Vans, or Air Maxes. Thank you in advance!😄
For me Retro 1 and Vans I rock a 10. These 990s I go with a 9.5.
The 991 is still my favourite silhouette but I’m wanting to get a 990 for the comfort. This video helped. Thanks man!

Great vid broski! I agree that the 990v3 is the best of the bunch. For me the V2 and the V4 tie for second. I’m not really feeling the V6 to be honest but if they come out with a “Version” series of the model I may cop it since I already have the Version series of all the other 990’s. I really like the shape of the midsole on the v5's especially in the heel area
My v5 bottomed out after 11 months of heavy heavy use. Got me a bad heel injury after Christmas shopping around town. Now it's time to move on to the v6. Thank you for this video

got both the v2's and the v4's and i agree with what you said that the v2 is more of a mature looking all around sneaker compared to the v4's. But the comfort on the v4's is amazing, love that firm cushoning on that shoe. Trying to get the v6 as well next week. Great content man keep it up!

I tried both v3 and v6. I found that v6 was more squishy. As in, my heel sunk deeper than mine was in v3. That would mean v6 is softer than the v3. I went with the v3 for more rigidity and slimmer profile as I drive quite a bit. Both are comfy, though, just small differences between the two that you really need to try them out yourself.
Also, v3 has way more colorway which is a plus. I find reflective tab on the v6 to be too flashy. As in, it shouts to people that I am wearing running shoes and you must watch out. It is good if you use it for running so you are seen by cars with lights on.

Do you think going a 1/2 size up in the v5 would help with the big toe issue? I have a pair of 4’s I just got that I love and want another 990. I’m leaning towards the 5 for the ortholite. Tried on a 6 and didn’t like them.
I love the v4! I’ve been rocking those kith United arrows a lot lately and I think they’re just so comfortable. I went TTS in the v3 and v4 and my v3s are just too big but the v4s feel great! I got the v6 and it was too big TTS and I sent it back. Maybe it’s just me but v4s fit a little smaller than the others.

Had many v5’s now I’m buying v4s as I was always getting a whole in the toecap after less than a year. Never experienced that with the v4s, that way they last 3 times more
Great video! If the v3 is the best the 990 can offer in terms of looks, I don't think it can stand a chance against the 991, 1500, 992, 993, 1300, 576, 577, etc. Just saying something to think about when picking the best version... :)
I still don’t have a 576 or 577. But the 992 and 993 are two of the best in terms of comfort for sure.

I had a pair of 990v3 for years that I wore everywhere until they were stolen last Summer! I thought I was buying an exact replacement, but what I received was v5. Really having a hard time finding a replacement v3 pair because I have small feet but have to have the 2E width. (I can't just go up a size in a narrower width due to plantar fasciitis caused by most shoes being too long in the toe.) Major bummer finding listings for v3 but not in wide, seeing cool colors - but not in wide. I found your video because I'm trying to figure out if the v6 would be a closer replacement to the v3 than the v5 was (in terms of comfort and functionality).

I experience the same thing with v5. In my case my foot sliding alot in front of the shoe, try runner knot same issue. So i change insole with gripy one, problem solve. I found v5 insole flat so fast especially in the mid to toe area (i rarely use my heel to run and walk)

I’m regularly a 10.5 and it’s actually feels a bit too short. I’m having to up size to 11 where it feels a bit longer.
I found that some reviews of the 990v4 stated that the oval piece of rubber in the base of the heel would come off and expose the foam and that the plastic "shank" support is just glued on in there, a downgrade from the carbon fiber of the v3.
I used v4 for a long time and LOVE it. Recently I bought v6 but am not very happy with it. I will probably buy v4.
V4 are great.
I just got into new balance (I'm a big adidas boost guy, I even work at adidas) but I also got New Balance 990v5, Fresh foams and 2002r and I want so much more😂
The v1's slowly became my most comfortable shoe, once the foam started forming more to my foot. Wear 'em every day for a month and see if your opinions change.

I think you’re obviously going to find it more comfortable if you’ve worn any foam shoe everyday for a month straight and he has worn the shoe enough to give a valid opinion or else this review wouldn’t be making any sense. But comfort wise I would agree with him in this video. 990v3 v4 and v5 are very close but the v3 has a nicer fit imo and makes a lot of sense why he thinks it’s on top of his list. V1s are comfortable after a month I fully believe you but not as much to these newer models after a week of wear.
@@ev1627 I still prefer it to the other 990 models (all of which I own as well). The v3's are for sure up there as well, but my feet love the v1. More for me, I guess.
Ive been searching for V3 and V4, and i found that some have red color flag on the tounge, some not. And extra tag “version 3/4” on the side while the others dont have. Is it fake?(the one without red version tag and red flag on tounge). Or is it just different version/release year?

Agreed 1000%. 990v6 for me is #1 900 model.
my pinky toe touches the mudguard for the V5 (7.5 xxWIDE). when i tried the 7.0xxWIDE, my pinky toe sometimes bulges out of the mudguard lol. so in your case, you need to get a wide option for the V5.

For your 990v3's was that the 2021 release/40th anniversary? I am looking to get the exact pair but noticed the current model out now doesn't have the red "version 3" tag and also the "990" is not white on the back heel, (from stock photos) is this true or are they still exactly the same as in the video? I am stressing about ordering a pair but was wondering if they are still exactly the same in those details as the 2021 release?
I have the Version Series which just have some very minor differences but the shoe itself is exactly as a regular grey GR pair.
V4 is top choice for me personally. Especially in the OG grey. Followed closely by V3 then V6 ⭐
I only wear the 990V3 and V4's. I would give the edge on style to the V3

hey buddy! i wear 7.5 in 990v3 joe fresh goods and they fit me very comfortable with roomy fit. Planning to buy lapiz lazuli 990v6. should i stick to same size or half size down ?
My recommendation is the same as your v3.

No other brand has locked down the grey on sneakers like NB. I’ve yet to get the V6 on hand and feet but will soon. Hard to justify the price hike though.
Check around with local retailers and see if you can get at a discount. That’s how I got mine.

I also got feeling that sizing on v5 is quite weird. It is long if I go true to size 9us. If I down to 8,5 us, my toe feel a bit snug. So I order 8,5 wide version; and it is too wide on the rear side. 😅.
Maybe the shoes are not for me. I am still wearing them using thick socks to adjust
Yeah for some going with their regular size works. Best thing is to always try on the shoe if possible.
I have the v1, v3, v5 and copped the v6. For now indeed v3 but maybe it gonna change;-) dont really feel the v2 stylewise but thats my opinion. Also true about the v1. Its also my less favorite pair but besides that nb is always bringing heat:)

I only own the 990 v5 and 992.. I noticed how the 990v5’s fit just slightly shorter in length & also get that big toe hitting the front of the shoe sensation when walking… I dont own any other 990’s so I have nothing to compare it to.. however, that’s not the case with the 992’s I own.. pretty much a perfect fit at the same size ( 1/2 down )

Idk how people go half size down on the v6. I went with an 8 I’m usually a 8.5 and these fit super snug at standard width. Maybe an 8W would’ve been better.

I can understand how the hype has become frustrating as you being a long time fan. But it’s also cool to see the brand explode and be appreciated for the great product it produces. Though most hypebeast are buying just to make $$ 🙄
@Guy N' Kicks the price has been high for over a decade and New Balance had no problems with sales. In fact, the 990 series are usually recommended by podiatrist for it's aging population or over weight population. I can't wait for the fad to die out amongst younger people. The long-term customers will continue to pay the high prices long after the young people move on to the next fashion shoe.
The first pair of NB is 990v2 XG2 around 2018, TBH, I was a NB haters back in early 2K and one of my Fd trying so hard to persuade me to get a pair. It looks so good, then I get a v3 and v5 when it release . Man … I kinda dislike the V5, until I saw those leak images of v6, I even wait in the line when it release , no regret , v6 is the best of all

To keep it a bean the V5 and the V6 I had to go 11.5 in both of them in the V2 though I could go my traditional 11
For me at the beginning it would’ve been the opposite. 9.5 with the v5/v6 and 10 with the v2 😂

990v2 has the best looking sole of any 99x shoe.
As far as silhouette goes the V5 is by far my favorite.
Colors and collaboration definitely the V3.
The 9060 is becoming my favorite New balance silhouette though 🙏🏽
