As a former Frat Boy, these are a staple in any college dorm room closet. I've laughed in my 990s, cried in my 990s, spit game in my 990s, been kicked out of class in my 990s, barely passed finals in my 990s., after a long day of drinking and football games, I've PUKED on my 990s . . . you get the picture. I haven't watch a shoe review in forever. I'm not sure if this is how most shoe reviews look but man this is an amazing video. Aesthetically pleasing for sure!
I LOVE my 990's. I've been wearing these NB shoes for about 10 years, ever since an orthopedist who specializes in feet "prescribed" them for me. Seriously, they have my name etc. on file in the local NB store. They last forever (I wear them about 1.5 years then get the next version. I keep the old ones for years after that to wear on rainy days to save my newer ones.
Just FYI, I'm an older woman with different shoe needs than some others here. Different perspective, same great opinion of these shoes!

This is one of my favorite reviews from your channel. I copped a pair from StockX and had them sent to me all the way to the Philippines. I've never liked NB in the past but it has always earned my respect. I'm now a proud owner of 4 pairs! As soon as I received the 990, I definitely saw the quality of craftsmanship that you talked about. I also agree that it's a comfortable shoe to wear all day and I have no doubt that it's durable.
Hype or no hype, NB is a quality company and the 990s is an instant favorite in my collection. This comic' from someone who believes that "boost is life"!

Late to the show, but I agree completely with this review. I have owned 990s in the past. What sets them apart is their comfort and durability. I walk about 5 to 7 miles every day and I have to buy new sneakers every 3 to 4 months because the bottom soles separate. 990 never separate. I had to get new ones because I was wearing wide 990 and the extra room caused my big toe to bore through the padding. Get the 990 and support American manufacturing by enjoying a high quality sneaker.

Love the review man! I've been rocking the NB 990 since 2002! I had 3 grey pairs in college, and then moved to a sweet navy pair of 992's around 2008, then my all time favorite, the 990 Red NYC Marathon- which i scarcely wore, and still rock to this day- still feels good and the red suede looks amazing. Wanted a pair of 997S, but im going back to the 990V5 in a few days at the flagship store in Boston- cannot wait. Keep in mind, i still rock with my air max 1 ultra anniversary, and mix in a few AF1's and J 1's, but I always go back to my NB 990's when im going to be on my feet all day, walking around, or hanging out, that castle grey goes with everything! Keep up the great work!

I’m 28 years old and the only reason a pair of new balance crossed my mind was because of you Mr Foamer! I picked up a pair of 574 sports and it’s the best feeling shoe I’ve ever worn. I plan to purchase more in the future. new balance needs to send you love for getting people into their kicks
Great Timmy Duncan comparison!! Being raised in Baltimore, New Balance has been a staple in our communities for ever. Baltimorians and New Balance definitely have a love affair that's unmatched.
I fell into NB later in life as had an outlet near to where I moved into. Scooped some 574 and then 530s for not much and have since not looked back. You hit the nail bang on the head as some of their models [this one included] may not have the flair & zazz of other pairs/brands; but at the end of the day - if you can get year long durability and continuous comfort and wear = what more is needed? Always admired the 990 from a distance yet to date not taken the plunge - seeing these worn for a year and put through a proper #lifetest has definitely swayed me to seek some out. If i was to do the same to some of my pairs for a year they would be beat to heck & not look half as decent as these still do! So yeah maybe a bit pricey; IMO paying more for 1 good pair vs paying even more for a few crappy pairs is a no brainer. Love the honesty and sincerity of your vids. Amazing video. I wore my 993 10 years ago working night shift in a dirty hospital. 12 hour shifts running around and those shoes never killed my feet. The rest of the NB line is questionable but the 99x series reigns supreme. All the nurses know about New Balance since they have to stand for long periods of time. Just ordered a black pair of the v4 after watching your Dick's video and it reminded me of how epic those shoes were.

Just about any model but New Balance and especially the 990...MAN!!! they are UNFUCKWITABLE😆. I'm from D.C. and my big bros was in New Balance from head to toe in the 80's!! Just got my first ever NB and went for the 990v5, I just love them. I'm not a fan of flashy ugly as hell trainers, these are well made, comfortable and have an understated timeless look. Very happy.

Just bought a pair of On Cloud 50/50 and they're exceedingly comfortable. Top notch build quality too. Will be adding the 990V4 to the shopping list though.
Agree, i have a pair of GL3, and it is awesome!!! I switched the insole to a more cushioned one and it feels so great to walk with them for an entire day.

These are the most comfortable shoe I've ever owned. Interested in the v5 but I'm not crazy about how they look, that new plastic/shiny part on the upper looks weird to me

As someone who has flat feet and pronates, that plastic part on each side of the upper adds a lot of structure to the 990v5. Even with a good arch support and a runners knot, it’s totally necessary for me. I love the way they look, especially in the black/silver color way and they’re very comfortable for sure. But they’re also a stability shoe, and a very good one at that.
I have been running/walking/experiencing life in the NB 99x series of shoes since 1988 when I bought my first pair of NB 996. Before that I I had run in Nike and Brooks but found that they did not support my foot. Once I started running/walking in NB's, I have never bought another type of shoe. I am a heavier guy so I really appreciate the support and cushioning they provide for running and walking. They also last forever! The quality and craftsmanship of the shoe is excellent. I always buy my NB's 99X's in the NB grey color even though my wife kids me about it :-). Whenever anyone asks me about running or walking shoes... I recommend the 990 series!
New balance with Kawhi made sense from the get go. Kawhi's personality and playing style just mesh well with New Balance.
But it wasn't until I bought a pair of 990 that I understood just how well they worked together. Just like you said, this shoe is the Tim Duncan. Not flashy but gets the job done really well.
I’ve rocked with the 574’s for a while now, some pretty dope colorways. Might need to try a new style ‘cause Foamie and Buckets be runnin the sneaker game. Also your podcast got me laughing with your verbal vernacular assaults 😂.
In my opinion NB shoes hit the "BALANCE" of cushioning and firmness making them great for all day wear. I spend on average 12 hours a day in sneakers at work and then some time at home and it involves a lot of walking!
The super soft and cushioning sneakers just don't work for me, they cause fatigue somehow.
After accidentally discovering NB JUST because they were on sale (373) I have been wearing them for more then a year and actually just bought a second pair a couple of weeks ago (574) BECAUSE I was so impressed with all day comfort. I can't believe it took me 12 years and more than a dozen different sneakers and brands to finally find them. I guess that shows how brainwashed we are and only look at the established brands while ignoring some great ones!

Grew up in the DMV! Got a pair of 990v1 in 1982 as a high school student and have held New Balance near and dear since. I pay homage to the streets of the Central East that made this shoe and can't help but be amused by the place it holds in the Dad Shoe trend of the last few years. While its hard to consider these newer versions as serious running shoes (they are way overbuilt, but maybe for the trail) the quality, styling, and comfort of the USA made versions make them an unmatched active lifestyle choice.
Being from the dmv 1 pair of 990s can last you 2yrs through any weather tbh

Yooooo… From a sneaker head and Nike fanatic, I recently got my hands on a pair of NB 1500V5. I have been wearing them for about 2 months now and, OMFG!!! The most comfortable shoe I have ever owned. I have never been a NB fan and thought negatively about them. I am so glad that I took the leap and chance to make y feet so happy. I think I am fan for life now. Love my NB's bro. The only thing I dislike about them is the laces, the come undone very easily even with a double knot. Other than that, very well made and incredibly sturdy. Keep up the good work.
I've owned mine for 4 plus years. 990(V3) Still comfortable , hardly show any signs of wear or damage. Obviously the cushioning is not as good anymore, but i can still wear them all day without issues.

I got the 990v5 last year, and I am a loyal NB fan, and I have to say the v5s feel as good as when I first wore them.
I work in retail and am on my feet for 8+ hrs a day, 5 days a week, and these still have held very well.

Always been a fan of tha old school! New balance was mad expensive when J’s were still $99- they had tha heat for your feet!
