i relate so much with my insomnia ! i have the same struggles, the light has to completely blacked out, i need a comfy pillow with my neck at the right angle, and usually i also need a heavier or weighted blanket. i rarely hear people talk about it that much & relating to someone feels so good :)
Really enjoy your content abbey, as I’m slowly dabbling my big toe into intuitive eating after 16 years of bulimia before kids, and life long OCD with weight and body image. I’m 52 now, very healthy, very lean, and still learning and evolving every day. Your videos give me a lot of inspiration, thank you for being on this platform. As for sleep, I’ve been OCD with that all my life too, calling myself an insomniac, and battling sleep as long as I can remember. But I’m totally cured from all sleep issues since a) a started using the Oura ring, and learned that I sleep not nearly as bad as I’ve always thought, and b) I read ‘you can sleep too’ by Joseph Panell. This book weeded out all the false beliefs I had about sleep, no matter what life throws at me, and my relationship with sleep is now fantastic. Hope I’ll get there with food eventually too ;)
I recommend the book “say goodnight to insomnia”. It reminds me that I’ve pushed through on my worst days and survived which helps me stress less about sleep.
@15:20 "I have never been so tired and hungry at the same time." - Me and my husband (and every other New Yorker we know) around 9PM. 😅 Thank you for sharing your tremendous gift with the world, Abbey. 🥰
I’m so bummed that the Midsommar movie gave the actual midsummer a bad rap 😂 As a Swede I can confirm that it’s the best day (and longest) of the year! Summer, great food, drinks, flower crowns and white summer dresses.
I have the same insomnia experience but I typically do the opposite - just give up and tell to myself: "this night you are not going to sleep, and somehow you'll have to deal with it". And yes, I typically don't sleep but at least I don't have that feeling of guilt and frustration that I took too much medication for nothing. When I take meds, the pressure to fall asleep is somehow even bigger. Also I never check what time it is when I wake up - that's my no. 1 rule.
Abbey, I've learned so much from you, so allow me to share some knowledge. Re. your Scottish titles ad, you're probably not aware: "gypped" is an outdated term. Some consider it an ethnic slur. "Ripped off" or "Cheated" could be alternative vocab.
I have a mind trick I play when I have insomnia sometimes. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I do reverse psychology on anxious thoughts about insomnia. "I'm not going to sleep, oh well. Might as well do something relaxing and enjoyable." That usually means reading a book. Inevitably, I usually do manage to fall asleep and get some, even though it isn't the greatest sleep.
Abbey I feel you❤ Please please Abbey look into Lisa Sanfilippo Sleep Recovery book and she also does sleep one to one online sessions!! Insomnia is the worst 😢

There's a study (2020) entitled 'Gut microbiota depletion by chronic antibiotic treatment alters the sleep/wake architecture and sleep EEG power spectra in mice.' A short summary on Science Daily (I assume it's reputable) says, "Researchers used a cocktail of antibiotics to deplete gut microbes in mice. They found that metabolites in the gut differed in these mice compared with controls. In particular, metabolic pathways involved in making important neurotransmitters like serotonin were affected. Additionally, these mice showed abnormal day-night distribution in sleep/wake patterns, particularly the amount of REM sleep, and frequent transitions between REM and non-REM sleep episodes." It might be jumping to conclusions, but your insomnia could be related to taking certain antibiotics for your SIBO.
I have to sleep with ear plugs in as the least noise wakes me up. Also need total darkness. I never can sleep on a plane. I also dont sleep well in a strange bed, so I really feel for you! Food looks yum!
Sometimes, it is the things we do routinely that have an affect on our entire body and we bypass it. Try, just try a few days without coffee and see if it improves your sleep. Best of luck.
Limited dinner options? Aren't you in NYC and with a good budget? If I'm not mistaken you have hundreds of the worlds best restaurants you could have chosen from. Take out and delivery were also options. Oh well. You like trader joe's so its ok, still, you could have had a great meal somewhere!!!
My sleep medicine doctor suggested not to look at the clock when I wake up during the night because the brain likes to make patterns. This has helped me a lot!
I do that! Because when I look at the clock, I end up automatically calculating how many hours of sleep I have left and I panic about not having enough sleep! It’s just better for me to wake up in the morning without knowing how much I slept and just seeing how I am feeling on the spot.
I have trouble sleeping too. I found my routine that works - first I have to take my own pillow with me when I travel. I have a sleep mask that doesn't touch my eyes (more like goggle style), cold room, ceiling fan on, ear plug in one ear, headphone in the other ear. Sort of boring-ish youtube video or podcast playing in the headphone with a timer set to go off after 15 minutes. For now, it is working for me. If I wake up in the night I restart the video/podcast and repeat.

Hi Abbey - I tried CBT for my Insomnia and found it SUPER helpful! Yes - I still take meds, but I have less anxiety surrounding sleep in general. We realized that I was "obsessing" about sleep in the same ways I would about other anxiety triggers (similar to yours) and everything had to be "perfect" for me to sleep. Interestingly enough, the more I challenged my sleepytime "needs" the less anxious I got in the long run! I am sure you have tried a lot of things but CBT + Trazadone has really helped

As someone who is studying for their masters in dietetics, I would love to see a video about your thoughts on foods from Trader Joes. I love TJ but I try not to rely on their meals every week since they're (usually) very processed.
Any tips or resources for people who don’t understand insomnia? I was floored when my partner’s sister said she doesn’t believe insomnia is real. My partner has severe insomnia and I don’t know if she thinks he’s making it up, but like, he’s 30. He’s not just staying up because he’s irresponsible. It made me so mad, but all I could do was politely tell her she was wrong and insomnia is very real. Thankfully he wasn’t around when she made that comment, but man. It made me so mad and I don’t get mad easily.
Thank you, Carolyn! Yes, it is so frustrating because I see his pain firsthand and for her to just brush it off was heartbreaking. I wish you good health, and your English is great! I agree that a video on this topic would be helpful.
I have insomnia too especially when traveling. Must have a dark room. Must have a cooler room. When I awake, I say a short prayer that it’s actually “morning” and not 2:15am which is “too f&$@ing early to be awake.”

Is your issue with falling asleep or waking up in the middle of the night? If it's the former you might have a circadian rhythm disorder which is very different from insomnia and can be treated by basically going to sleep at the time your body wants to.

Us women need to live according to our menstrual cycle. Most of us don't even know this, but a lot of the insomnia or fatigue that we feel is because we're overworking our bodies. We eat things that affect our health, mainly our sleep. How we live can even increase our anxiety and depression. Also, some of us might even eat foods that are healthy but harm us. For example, people who suffer constipation might eat lots of beans and legumes thinking it's healthy but don't realize it's harming their bodies. The fact that the solution to anxiety and depression are pills is alarming. I used to be anxious all of the time, feel fatigued and could barely sleep. Once I studied my menstrual cycle and started living according to it my life has changed for the better. Obviously during the luteal and menstrual phase I still might not sleep that much because it's normal, but it's not as bad as it used to be. There are so many things that affect our health, hormones and emotions but it's up to us to do the research and start changing our lives for the better. 😊

Some nights I do wake up again but I recently have gotten a lot better falling back asleep thankfully. The nsdr scripts really helped me when I was really struggling.
My alarm is set for 10:30 Am daily when I do wake up. And actually get out of bed about an hour later.
I’ve been trying this for at least a month. It’s ok for now but I’m not happy with it. I feel I’m surviving but definitely am not that productive. I will slowly keep trying to go to sleep and wake up earlier but I recognize this is an enormous long term goal and isn’t going to get fixed anytime soon for me.
How can I find out more about that? I am planning to see a sleep specialist soon to rule out sleep apnea as my dad suffers from it
@@lynncrf how can I find out about the circadian rhythm disorder. Tbh I’ve always struggled with sleep. A lot of it stems from school as the perpetual procrastinator. I would pull all nighters and somehow did ok because the stress helped me docs. It has definitely taken a toll on my mind, body, sleep, skin, stress, and very sadly relationships that I thought were lifelong.
I even remember the first time I pulled an all nighter. I wish I never did that lol
Hello, my name is Abbey Sharp and I’m a narcissist 😂
Wow, the blackout curtains fiasco! Are you unable to wear sleep masks - do you find them uncomfortable?
Sleep anywhere other than my home is always a nightmare! Hope your neck is better, even though this was probably a while ago. :)
Insomnia is wretched. I get the eating whatever easy, fairly healthy, and filling. Thank you for sharing your trip!
I enjoyed this one! would love to see how you end up dealing with the fodmap thing and if you could incorporate things that you coulnd't eat before
Are you wearing DYE QUEEN from Rag Bone?!?! Also, hi from NJ!
I loved all your outfits! They were beautiful. 😍
Aw thank you
Abby pleaseeeeee cover Bethenny Frankel and SkinnyGirl company! Pleaseeeeeeee
I’m traveling now too (& purchased a pillow since I’m gone for a while you’re not a diva for that!) and I struggle with my sleep… sick in bed watching this now actually 😫
Can’t wait to see what you have in store 🤗
Side note: love your ring 💍
Use to work with jewelry so it’s a habit to notice sparkle ✨
Yay an Abbey video on Halloween - that's a big treat for me! And I was born in NYC so this is awesome!! Can't wait to hear about your top secret project! I'm going to settle with some snacks and watch this right meow 😻sending lots of love and support from Hollywood. xoxo 🥰❤❤❤💕💕💕
I can’t wait to share more!
@@AbbeysKitchen yay!
Oh Abby, I totally get you. I I I have trouble sleeping and I sooooo understand!!!!! I'm glad you have a good crew, great family, you eat so well and you are so smart and funny!! God bless you!!! I will pray for you!!!
Could you do a video on blood food sensitive tests and if they are legit?
You seem super stressed. Maybe you can do a video on how to avoid burnout.
Get a 2 hour thai massage. Or foam roll after some THC or CBD. Very relaxing and recharging.
For the “city that never sleeps” it seemed like it was really hard for Abbey to find coffee!
I know!
the music at the beginning was a fun thing but a bit distracting.
Where are your necklaces from? so cute!
I really enjoy your Volgs! Thanks to your videos I think I am finally getting to a healthy relationship with food. Funny story how I found this channel... lol I am a big Holly Madison fan so when I seen your review pop up I came to fight because I had been Mimicking holly's what I eat in a day. BUT Half way through the video I really liked your sense of humor and Intelligence, and ended up learning a lot! I have probably seen a hundred of your other reviews since. I will say though it is nice to see a vlog from you now that I am a big fan.
Dying of laughter when you ate that spicy food 😂😂 thank you for giving us the real, raw you and always making us laugh while doing so! 💜 love you abs!!
Well done, Abbey!!!
34 year old insomniac who also wears a retainer here. Can relate to much of this .
Not sure if anyone else has mentioned this but I’d love a video review on Maggie Qi’s ads and gut health videos. They seem to be deceptive and very vague and self promoting maybe? Please look into this for us Abbey! I hate seeing her ads with her saying she can basically eat whatever she wants because she has good gut health and that keeps her “skinny” while (for the camera) snacking causally on a whole loaf of artisan sourdough bread..
Anyone else??
Abbey, can you make a video on rosacea? My dad has it and I was recently diagnosed and my skin generally looks “normal” but upon triggered by heat, sunlight, hot foods, spicy foods, etc. my face turns red all over and it’s so embarrassing 😭
Is your SIBO all gone? I am super jealous of the food you ate! I am hoping to get my gut in order at some point. Getting tested for SIBO on Monday.
have you ever noticed that your insomnia gets worse when you pms/the first day or two of your period? that happens to me and i'm trying to sort out a fix for it but it's hard to know where to even start.
Yes it’s very common. I just accepted my faith at this point. I try to get in extra sunlight and physical activity to make myself really tired. Also, I take about 2 doses of melatonin 30min apart just make sure I pass the fuck out and hope for the best.
Your eats always look incredible !! What was that onion bread thing? Omg yum.
they should be planting hemp which sequester more CO2 than trees
You are my kindred spirit! Love your thoughts on food….haven’t slept in 3 days!! I have gone. Week!
No eating out?🥺
I thought you would eat in good restaurants since you have so many options in NY🥺
I've had that elderflower skyr. It's good!
Watching you rally is so inspiring because I have to do that too. I've found cognitive behavioral therapy to be very helpful for anxiety.
Thanks for sharing!
Lady you were in the city with a million of restaurants...why did you decide to cater yourself? I would have ordered Ubereat and splash on the deliciousness that NY could offer ;-), but yes I would have still got myself some fresh fruit and snacks for the room. I can't wait to see what you have recorded for us! :)
I’m wondering the same! I think I’m abnormal
Because I love to eat out and I see all these successful people buying groceries when they can be treating themselves lol
I would’ve asked the craft service table if I could make a doggy bag. That’s basically eating out imo and is free
@@B_27 she smart enough to know what to order in order to meet her hunger crushing combo. The grocery store doesn’t package it for her, so it’s not any different at a restaurant
If I saw you walking down the street I would shit my pants 😂
I was actually super surprised by the pillow comment...I always thought you'd be a "travel with my own pillow" type! (I do it!!)
holy hell what a weirdly negative comment section.. loved this video and i'm so sorry youve been feeling so stressed! i'm excited for your new project but if you ever need a break you should definitely take one! i did want to also drop in and say you may want to avoid saying "g*pped" in the future as it does come from a slur for romani people. lots of people dont know that though. anyways thank you abbey for another great vid :).
Why not use a sleep mask? I have blackout curtains, still have to use a mask
I find the feeling on my face distracting
@@AbbeysKitchen ah!
@@AbbeysKitchen I use a folded up silk pillow case bc I hate sleeping mask! It was a game changer!
How does it stay on your face?
@@tpn1110 I use a silk sleep mask. Less than $30, why use a folded pillowcase?
Abby sharp = the carb queen
As a Scot, loving this sponsorship! :)
I know its the last thing you want to advocate but its very enviable how you can eat whatever you want and stay so svelte and on a boat load of medication to boot !
I was gifted an Established Titles Ladyship as a wedding gift and I absolutely love it!! We have our certificate framed on the wall. :)
r u making a game show????
With all the love- the video was 10 minutes, an ad read, and a mid roll in before you ate anything. Should’ve been titled Abbey’s Insomnia Vlog
Those established titles are a scam.
You should remove the established titles link. It's turned out to be a scam
The actual eating starts at 8:47...
Abbey got to hit up Trader Joe’s - yay!
Please tell me you did not actually make a PA massage you 😂.
You're probably gonna want to use more toilet paper if you have to wash the 💩 out of your hands and you're not traveling with a child or pet.
Dieticians promote donuts? Nice?
you should watch more of Abbey's videos.
@@estrellarouge i have! Her diet is horrible!
way less side effects then sleep drugs? W3-ed.
The Carnivore lifestyle would calm you down .
Can you explain more info on this? I love how it resonates.
What are you doing differently now? I understand my cycle massively affects my body, but not sure how I can change that.
@@lynncrf Just wondering if you can expand on your diet/etc. It sounds very natural ... aligning with synergy of our physical self.
Racial slurs are never okay. Stop using the word "Gypped." I'm sure as an educated human you can think of better ways to convey your sentiment. Also, I hope your husband didn't see this video knowing you feel cheated out of a hot husband. 😬
What’s wife guilt?
Probably same logic as "FOMO" . Made up and considered legitimate.
This entire video is so First World "problems"🤢
So? Others non first problems don’t diminish your own
i wouldn't trust anyone with my health that wears a mask.
Get some Kali Phos tissue salts. Get this chronic stuff sorted properly, you are so young, don't be a drug taking middle aged woman.
what an ableist thing to say. I'm younger than her and I take medication for medical conditions. 🙄
@@Kimthecatlady what a pointless comment, I was being helpful, you are not.
