    Fantastic trip and great photography. We trekked the Haute Route last summer and recognised many of the huts - Cabane des vignettes was my personal favourite.

      Would also love to do this in the summer time! Cabane des Vignettes is spectacular, the setting on the cliff is amazing. I will say that when we were there it was very crowded, and you had to be very careful walking out as it was icy and a slip in the wrong direction might not have been pretty ;)

      This is something you need to organize with a professional ski guiding service. If you google Haute Route ski guides, quite a few will pop up. We happened to use one out of Zermatt, but there are many out of Chamonix also. Good Luck!

      I’ve done a fair bit of mountaineering/climbing, and moved to Norway a couple of years back, so it was a pretty intense season and a half, but I definitely fudged my way around this route and struggled with the altitude for a couple of days 😩

      @@jefffilmproductions8327 I m reading on your blog which ways you took. It s very interesting to see that you took some different ways than we did. Great video. I have climbed La Luette and Pinge De Arolla on foot, I would love to go back and do the whole route on skis, which is why I am watching this haha. How much per day do the guides cost?

    • @jefffilmproductions8327
      @jefffilmproductions8327  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Guides were not on a per day basis, but the trip. We were a group of 8, and had 1 guide, and an guide in training. 600 francs per person for the week. That doesn't include any rentals of beacons, or other gear, that's extra if needed, but does cover the cabin stays.

      @jefffilmproductions8327  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Faith & Action! It is an amazing trip, and to be able to do it with my daughter was very special. At most of them you can’t charge , we were able to at our last hut, but there were hardly any other guests there. Weight is a big deal on this trip, I did bring a big battery with me knowing I wanted to keep the phone charging to film. I lost some weight getting ready for the trip so that helped me justify carrying it 😁. I hope you are able to do it one day, good luck!

    Great video! I hiked the Haute Route in a summer and I made a video about it as well. I am wondering, how did you make the Google Earth part?

    • @jefffilmproductions8327
      @jefffilmproductions8327  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Felix Schouten I tracked our trip on my iPhone using an app called gaia gps, then exported files out .kmz files into google earth. Earth has options for creating tours and movies. Hope that helps some - there are lots of tutorials online that you might be able to find that explain in detail. If you didn’t record the data, you can create paths in the desktop version of google earth as an alternative.

      What was the fitness level and experience of your group? What other journeys you've done before as a training for this one?

    • @jefffilmproductions8327
      @jefffilmproductions8327  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Claudiu Fabian Milea - fitness level was slightly different for all of us, but our guides expected us to be in shape. You want to go with people you know have similar fitness and skiing abilities. For me, this was my 2nd time doing the trip - first time being the spring of 1985. I knew it was tiring from that trip, and I was young and fit then ;). My regimen was focused on getting to a fit weight first - dropped from 190 lbs to 165 lbs - through diet. Then running 3 miles a day every 2 to 3 days for maybe a 6 month period. On a trek like this where there is more up time than down - weight is the number 1 factor ( that you have some control over ) to make it a pleasant experience. Use the lightest equipment you can afford to buy or rent, and do not carry too much with you! Be a minimalist on this sort of trip. Do not carry a drone ;)

    Saw one skier with the Volkl Vwerks bmt 94? I just got a steal of a deal on the same ski. Its looking like an amazing snowpack in the alps this year. I also saw the Atomic Hawx which I might get. Any chance you used either of that equipment?

    • @jefffilmproductions8327
      @jefffilmproductions8327  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was one of two on the bmt 94’s - I love them, great ski in crud, powder, great. Had the kingpins, my buddy (yellow helmet) did also but he had the lever that shifts from walk to ski mode break, but we’ were able to fix with duct tape. I also had the salomon mtn lab boots which I really like, although they are a bit narrow. The hawk gets good reviews. Dynafit just released a new hoji free ski boot that looks interesting to me also. Snow conditions are great there right now.

    • @TheStephenRibero
      @TheStephenRibero 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jefffilmproductions8327 ya that hoji free is very interesting. It doesn't come on the market until the fall. Im using a pair of Dynafit tlt6 boots and have Dynafit ST12's on my BMT94's id love to get out to do the haute route. I bet there will still be snow in that first week of may. The alps got buried so far this winter. I have a feeling it will be a long spring season

    More deaths on the Haute route between the cabanne des Dix and Vignettes on what for us was the hardest stage - the approach to the Pigne D’Arolla via the Serpentine. Apparently the guide fell to his death from early reports and three in the group died of hypothermia. Prayers for their families.

      Are bookings at cabanne de plafeuri got screwed up, so option one was skiing into town (I think it was champex) from cabane du trient, bus to le chable, and long trek to our next cabanne. It was gonna be too long. Option 2 bus to Arolla, then off to cabanne des dix. Option 3, heli ride to top of Rosa Blanche, and skin to cabanne des dix. Cost of heli ride was about the same as bus and hotel, so our choice was made😁. It worked out well!
