- Been getting some requests for more RAW flight from take off to land. Thought I'd challenge myself to see how long I could make that flight while still having fun and keeping it interesting. Let me know what you think, was the flight a snooze or fun to watch?
Also, regarding flight time, I meant to mention how different prop sizes with appropriate motor pairing can make a big difference, but the focus of this video is simple things you can do to get slightly longer flight out of your standard 5in freestyle drone.
Thanks as always for your support! :)

"Mama I've Got a Feeling" by Andrew Applepie

That flight was actually pretty entertaining to watch. watched the whole thing! nice one homie.
To clarify I will most likely buy a set of hype trains because I like Drew and what he does for FPV but also individual pilots not just the “community” I like to support the peeps I see making a difference and Drew is defiantly one of those characters I support. Keep it up man 👍
1:35 I thought charpu was returning that paint pole?!
I really liked the way you put the digits at the bottom, that was freaking GENIUS!!! It was really neat to see the values you get as you do your thing. And it allowed us to get a feel for how your FPV feed was without distracting from the sexy vid whatsoever. Absolute top notch idea bro!
Great flying Drew! I'm one of (apparently somewhat rare) people who appreciate the skill required to fly smoothly at a constant altitude while doing a slalom (and orbits even), and make it look easy. Most of the mainstream videos are of people going from one punchout and recovery to the next. While that indeed requires skill, it also absorbs a lot of mistakes and corrections.
A video like this one bares your soul, so to speak. If you don't mix the corner right, or are a tad heavy on the throttle coming out of a turn, everybody is going to see it.
I'm impressed with this style of flight because recently I've been trying to learn it and finding it much harder to get down than I expected. (I'm still working to get thru the trees smoothly)
My (limited) experience as a quad flier has shown that the hardcore WOT tricks are easier to learn and make look good than is smooth, flowing flight. Aggressive aerobatics tend to 'wow' the crowd, especially people who don't fly more consistently, so people put together more videos of that style.
I'm in no way discounting how much skill it takes to "Rip Balls" and make it look good, but it is just as hard to make a smooth precision flight come off well, and this is a great example of how it's done.
The 'Aggressive vs Smooth' thing also goes hand in hand with your last video which was about "when to go for the big trick", but I thought it ended up more about choreography vs spontaneity. What I got from it was "have a plan, but be ready to take advantage when a option presents itself".
You've been showing us your approach to flight planning and how lately, and it's a subject that I find interesting, but not often discussed, here anyway.
Gotta mention this - Wow! What a beautiful flying site. I wish I had such a nice place to fly, and it was deserted no less.
If I showed up at a place that, there would be 3 yr olds everywhere and I'd be afraid to fly a Guillows chuck glider.
Nice videos since you went "All In", great job!
Keep it peaceful, free and easy...
Scott
FPV and chill! - Awesome stuff as ever...watching this at 04:45 as my son just woke up screaming.....changed his nappy...and watched some Drew together...he went straight to sleep (in a good way)...gonna try and catch a few more hours...thx again for the great content
Yay! Didn't skip. :)
I am interested in your design for the goggle batteries, please make a video about them!
Greetings from Germany.
bro more flying from that spot! good video drew:) p.s i watched the wholeeee flight and enjoyed it all
thanks buddy :)
Actually I found this more enjoyable to watch than your normal flight vids. Its really simple you were flying in more eye pleasing surroundings. I guess that chat over food on last RR episode was in your head:)
This is possible my favourite flight vid from you. It was just "real". So real in fact, it reminds me very much of my flights......except you crashed about 6 times less, were about 75% smoother...you failed to pull off one move and I succeed at about 1 move per flight....oh and you spent about an hour less than me looking for a crashed lost drone. Thanks for sparking my interest in the hobby about 4 months ago. Now I am in neck deep and having to explain to the wife where all the money is going!
Huge fan of how you put this video together, haven't seen too many with the voiceover. Also love how smooth all you're runs are, everthing is much more fluid compared to alot of other pilots.
Yes! I watched the whole flight. I love your flying more than anyone I've seen because you're always so smooth with your drone. You're almost never too jumpy on the tricks for me. Love watching your flights and enjoy hangin with you!
i wouldn't mind more vids like this Drew. i like to watch flying vids and try to learn from them, sometimes there are too many things going on for me to be able to process and think about how everything is done and how i can incorporate these things into my flying. the slower vid allowed me to break it down and analyse.
Cheers Drew, was awesome to see some downlink info on the video. Always been interested on what your amp draw has been like. Great addition and a nice way to round off my night over here in Britland. Keep it awesome :)
Really dug seeing the OSD , stuff like that helps me gauge my progress as started flying in March. and i don't mind the slow flying that's chill , its meditative with the right music . Nice video man
I could watch that all day long. IMO the best pilot on youtube. I just want to fly after watching your vids.... Cheers Drew
Do more of this!!! Squeezing as much in as possible, yet trying to extend flight times as much as possible.....This is keeping it real!
Dude, seriously, no need to feel like that, some of us love to watch the whole flight, especially when you have shared such awesome music along with it, I certainly didn't have the first thought to skip any of it, I thoroughly enjoyed the video floating through the trees while listening to the track you chose... Love the vids man, wish I could watch it all day, thanks for taking the time to make these
Always enjoy watching the mellow flights. Nice job man.
Love your flying, slow or fast. The smoothness you fly with is meditative to me.
Great hangout man. Good to see you back dong your roots type stuff. Looking after us non pro guys. Cheers drew.
Great Video, appreciate that! I really like your videos about those daily things. Looking foward to your next one. I hope the weather changes in germany to try some of your trick tutorials ! Keep on going that way!
It was a very cool chill run, i didnt skipped any of it. And idea of getting a voltage bar below is an epic ida
I love the autumn colors this time of year.
You're an artist, Le Drib.I might have known you're running 1500 and normal weight quad ;). You have the smoothest style and footage out there. Amazing. Beautiful to watch. Just one more 500hrs on the sim and I'll get there! Lol.
Really enjoyed this video!! Just getting started in FPV, so it's easier to relate to this style of flying rather than the "hair on fire" flying you usually see. Great video!!! (I'll watch this one over & over to pick up moves to learn) Thanks again, Clyde
Just getting into the hobby and loving your videos. Noticed the Adventure Time tune near the end of this vid, from the best episode too!
Drew, another way to get longer battery life is to ensure the heavy components are concentrated around the center of mass, thus reducing the moment of inertia. In other words, if you have a choice of placing the ESC's on the arms or within the body of the quad, pick the body so the mass of the ECS's isn't out far away from the center of mass. This way, the motors have to work less to change direction of the quad. Nice video as usual...very smooth flying!
Love your work dude, keep it coming.
Your relaxed flying style is the best.
That was a beautiful mixture between explaining, flying astheticlly and feeling bad when not choosing these motors when it comes to my next shopping madness in this hobby. Greets from northern rainy Germany :-D
It was nice to watch a raw video as a beginner. Lowers the expectation of how I should be flying.
I actually thoroughly enjoyed it. It's very relaxing to watching you flying like this with the chill music playing :)
I really liked your OSD setup. I think it is a good balance between not enough information and too much.
I like a little weight to my quad. I'm glad to hear you like the HT motors as I have a set arriving tomorrow to go into my Alien. Super excited to fly them. I'll try those props you use as I have a few sets. Awesome video brother, keep up the great work!-Omar PS, love the full pack flight. My favorite kind of videos. 😆
I'll take the bonus points. Your flying is hypnotic. Awesome. And I appreciate just hanging out with you too (digitially)
I sat through the whole thing!!! And I liked it! Alot! Just nice easy smooth flying. Another great video.
I love watching your videos and trying to figure out where your flying sense I live in your area! Keep up the videos, I look forward to them!
your amp draw under thrust is interesting.
maybe I need to give it more thrust.
I cruise at 8a and punch at about 50a. that is without the gopro.
thanks for sharing.
I always land at 14.1 and get between 3:30-4 minuets doing all kinds of crazy stuff, but I'm using thunder power 1300mah 80c 4s packs and they seem to hold out longer than other batteries in general
With the season changing, can you do a video on how to "waterproof" a quad/drone?
Awesome Drew! I watched it entirely! I'm learning so much from your videos! Thanks and keep em coming!
Drew I totally sat through the whole video without skipping ;) Giving you the watch time you deserve bro ;) Keep it up you're definitely my #1 inspirational pilot ;)
Like your flying style and the content you put out. Keep up the good work!!
Drib watched the whole thing and couldn't agree more. Sometimes it's nice to have a flight without a bunch of oh shit moments. Flying is flying it beats the hell out of being grounded!!!! I'll take the air anytime!!!
Woow drew that was soothing to watch that slow smooth cruising! Not boring at all! :D loved it! More of these and the spot was cool to! :D
I loved the flight! Awesome use of the trees :) You continue to inspire me!
Love all of your videos! Even when you’re chillin the flight is so smooth it’s awesome to watch. Also I really like all of your tutorials. 👍🏽🤙🏽😃
Dude it's totally cool watching you cruise around to see what flight time you can get it's still really cool 😊
Hi mate i watched the whole flight and liked it. probably because it's closer to my skill level. I actually feel more motivated to fly after watching that. Thanks for sharing. Regards Dave.
I loved it Drew. So flowy floaty smooth.
The timing seems right. Can’t wait for batteries to improve. I don’t recommend this but I was able to push close to max 6m 15s with 5s 1500mah Dal T5050C MB2207 2450KV with excellent cruising speed, plenty of punch outs, and some good distance but still feel 4-5 minutes is better. Battery is fine. It was a CNHL 5S 100c/200c 1500mah. If you run into some good batteries please share.
drew it is always great to see a full fight from you. i think that is.a great spot. if you have anymore nice sunny evenings this year shoot another more robust flight there skitzo style. if not then do one in the spring.
Great video as aleays! This raw video was super relaxing to watch actually, keep the great content coming
i love the nice flowing vids,, sometimes the aggressive style gets a bit boring,, its good to switch it up,,, keep em coming drew
Another great video drew, you’re killing it! Would you consider doing a tutorial on that move you do where you do a half flip and then roll back to level? Every time I try that I hit the ground before I get level. 😬
As always Le Drib, an excellent video and so relaxing to watch. Enjoyed that very much, thankyou. :)
flyin slow near the treetops is just as much fun washing machine flyin.. a well placed ground cam mighta made it even better. throttlelicious is the word you were hunting for and sweater? sweater!? i have t-shirts thicker than that for summer here in scotland. always enjoy your vids.
Really enjoyed the video! Eyes focused on amp draw the whole time! Thinking about some hypetrains instead of my classic redbottomes. Running 24a escs. Looks like at least if I don’t punch too hard those hypetrians won’t kill my esc!
Again great vid! Me an my buddy are huge fans and love the content!
Some times it's nice to see a casual sesh
Great video Drew - 3D printing - tips - and flying! Thank you for sharing!
Hey Drew you should build a super light 5 inch quad when ever you want to try something new! Mine is 238g (no bat or go pro) and I've gotten over 12 minutes cruising around on a 1000mah 4s!
No skipping! thanks drew for the content
Just getting hyped to so some flying. It is mid March and the snow is going away--slowly. Even flying parking lots is exciting at this point. BF3.3 is here and butterflight!? bl_heli32 dshot1200, 2400#!? Just wondering where you were at and what you prefer. Maybe a topic for Drib 2? Especially want to know if you do anything special with your heli32 settings. Anyway hope you see this. Peace.
Maybe not the more hardcore flight but realy entertaining and relaxing to watch! Good advices for long flight time, thank you! Keep going Drew, Nice video!
You know, I think beginners such as myself enjoy watching those mellower flights more than you might think, because there is less mystery in the sticking. I can see and know your experiences better, because I don't have to understand the copter so well or think as fast. Rapid motion is exciting, but watching supremely fast rapid motion and actually following the flight are two different things, and for someone who will have already viewed many flights, merely being dazzled by rapid motion isn't as fun as feeling more in tune to the flight itself.
i love flying like this, also like low speed, watched it all drew!
Drewdle doo bro.
I tell ya, every time, every vid til the end...always.Fly how you will it continues to be my inspiration. You and Chad need to Come this way and school this noob to the max! I need to be pushed and by you guys would be a blast!
Keep 'em coming.
See you in the sky!
STONEWULFF
I had tri blade props for a long time, mind you I only started flying in July, but since I got the bi-blade props I've been able to stay in the air for up to 7 minutes with a 1500mah lipo, honestly I get kinda antsy like wondering when I'm gonna come back to the ground. I also don't have a gopro on mine since the last 2 mounts I had broke apart. So yeah bi-blade props another simple trick for burning through less battery imo, along with lower weight.
Definitely interested in 3D printed battery boxes for goggles! Please do a vid on this.
A few questions if you don’t mind. Why fly to mAh consumption rather than voltage? It’s my understanding that current sensors need calibration, and that there’s no really solid way to do that (though suggestions abound). So, how do you calibrate your current sensor? I fly the same size packs as you on both 5” & 6” quads, and flying to pack voltage I usually get 4-7 minutes (less for the 5”, more for the 6”). My style is chill, but I’m still relatively new (10 months), and I land when my voltage is averaging around 14.3-14.5 volts. Thoughts?
Hello, just wanted to thank you for your effort to fly smoothly. I am new to the sport and have been watching a ton of videos and a lot of free style folks abuse the helll out of the throttle. Yes they can pull the trick off but it’s vomit inducing. So.. thank you. I hope to learn some of your smoothness
It was awesome to watch as a noob. I saw what can be done at slower, more manageable speeds than zipping through the air, bashing into things and repairs
Most RC pilots like to follow the 80% rule for discharging lipos.
It's easier on the pack if you don't discharge over 80% of the capacity of the pack.
So a safe discharge for a 1500 would be 1200mah. A 1300 would be 1040mah. Of course I have no idea if you calibrated the current sensor on your FC.
I run the same motor and prop and you are correct they work quiet well together.
dude ive been long range cruising 6 inch like my wings just having a blast..just to fly..12 minutes..few loops and rolls..just flying man..better then not right?
GREAT JOB MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I Fly 1500 / 1550 milliamp Too!!!
I Also Land at 14.1 volts on the DOT!! If you don't have a GoPro strapped down on the front, you might as well add at least a couple hundred milliamps at least.
I don't like the way it feels with a 1300 on a 5-inch. It's just too light, and makes it much harder to fly smooth.
Just as soon as you disarm an quit pulling amps, the voltage always increases a few tenths anyway. I just try not to do any hard pulls when it gets close to 14
Love the “free flow” style but really love my HypeTrains. Gonna put that shhht on everything! Thanks for all the content you make.
Hey buddy I was wondering if you could make a video on understanding lipo voltage percentages in fpv goggles, how do you know what your voltage should be when flying and when it could be dangerous to bring your batteries too low in voltage
i have a set of the hypetrain motors and they are fantastic! efficient powerful and cool looking!...red bottom and HT motors are my two faves i also bought a set of the AOKfly motors and they also smoke!..for the price! they AOK!..
I’m using the same motor and prop and regularly get 4 minutes on a 1500mah, unless I’m really gunning it, but I fly chilled most of the time and my quad weighs about 80g less than yours fully laden.
Drew, in the video you fly until you had drawn 1400 mAh - how do you know how much to draw? What is the equation to understand amount drawn equals time to land?
how low and slo- FAST can you go? like try to skim on top of watter? grass? other?
you deserve 100k easily. your content is so good.
Dude, I wish I can fly as smooth and controlled as this video. I didn't skip the video because newbies like myself can learn from chill sessions like this, so, kudos and keep sharing. Maybe this can be a new section? Something like Stew from UAVfutures happy flying sessions
I know you get this all the time, but I want to get in to ACRO flying. I'm pretty good with LOS on horizon mode (NONFPV) but, want to FPV ACRO. More trick flying than racing. What is a good strong learner quad to use? Looking something that can take a crash but, be powerful enough that it will last a while. Wind here averages about 5 to 10 MPH. Thanx in advance, love your videos.
Does ur battery touch the gopro tpu mount? B4 when I was on foamy mount for the cameras I had almost zero jello...Now I installed a tpu mount for the camera I am getting all sorts of jello...Same quad, same everything....I wonder If the tpu thingy is to soft, so it wobbles when I fly, or if its the battery that its touching it, and so, transfering vibrations to the camera...Of topic, but as u said u using 1550 mah , I wonder if ur is touching the mount too, and u have no jello. So maybe I can troubleshoot mine...
Most enjoyable flight I've seen you do. :)
You Murdidlierdereeeed that battery!!! 😱 Haha, not really, though I try to land at 1200mAh drawn on my 1550's and get around 3.5 to 4mins from them... Watched your whole flight too as I'm an FPV junkie always looking to learn something. Great video 👍
why go by amps drawn and not cell voltage?
Richard Clark mAh drawn is much more accurate & reliable than voltage reading. Can't exactly trust voltage as it fluctuates with sag & not a true indicator of the batteries capacity used. For optimal battery health over the long run it's best to not go much below 30%. For example say a 1300mAh pack, aim to land at about 910mAh consumed.
Lovely flight. Nice and smooth. Keep it up.
Nice flying and great video, watched the whole video as always. :)
One of your Best Vlogs!!!!
What do you mean drib ! That whole flight video was fuggin amazing ! Please do more :)
I don't understand why you landed at 14.2V - surely you could push it longer than that? Even at 3.4 per cell gives you until 13.6v? Can someone explain the thinking - I don't understand. Is voltage not a good guide? All the tests I have seen show anything down to 3.3v per cell is fine and doesn't damage lipos
Drew, thanks for that ! Love your videos, your an inspiration !
I'll take those bonus flights, watched the whole thing. Nothing wrong with a good cruise battery, feels kind of nice once in a while. The only disappointing part is now I know that you are actually human like the rest of us, my world has been turned upside in
To be honest, normally I am not a fan of your style because I more or less like aggressive proximity a little bit more, especially uncut. BUT, this video, the flight and especially the music was just great!!!!! Liked it!!!! Great pilot!
Nothing wrong with some cruising on a dreary day man, watched it all, was kind of a relaxing flight. :)
Great flying keep it up.I enjoy watching your videos.
Hey, person. I've got around $220 and I'm debating either a GoPro session (not a session 5) or a tiny whoop with like 6 batteries. I'm really leaning toward a tiny whoop with the winter/rainy/snowy season coming up. But I'd also like to start a channel with flight videos.
Fuzzwad get a Kopis 1 from Holybro if you can find one...:)
Dont take regular session beter try get a runcam 3
Nathaniel Staal True. But it seems more trouble than it's worth getting one into the US
Get a Brushless Whoop then, Lizard 95 is one of the best and "only" (compared to other very good ones) 99 euros (120 dollars i think)
you realise a camera and a quad are two different things? buy whichever you want more
I fly like that lol. And that's the real reason I get 4-5minutes.
Question: I'm having a hard time orbiting. Could you do a trick video on that? Steele's video didn't make sense to me.
Joshua Bardwell did a good vid on it
