Gankers are really smart in todays gathering zones. Here are some help for players that are planning to go to danger zones.
High mobility Weapon:
Bloodletter, double blade staff, bear paws, Battle bracers, great hammer.
Helmets:
--------------
Miner helmet: Deals with stuns and silence. Pairs with the sword ability that prevents purge and miner boots.
Cloth helmets: Second ability of helmet pairs with high mobility weapons.
Guardian helmet: Remove damage over time(curse bleeding, poison). Pairs with invisibility potion and/or specter boots.
Knight helmet: Kind of weak vs options listed above. If you are a greedy gatherer and hate teleporting back to town with just 20% capacity after 4-6 gankers shows up on your map. You can run to the next map with this item and the combination of others: high mobility weapon, Fort Sterling cape, Cleaning potion, mercenary shoes.
Chest piece:
---------------------
Gathering & assassin jacket: Pairs with high mobility weapons. Go invisible and wait until the last second to dash in the opposite direction of the gankers using your weapon first and then your shoes ability.
Guardian armor: Weak option but may work. If you are dying to fast you can try this item.
Boots:
--------------
Miner boots: The best option for someone that press buttons incorrectly when a gankers appears. Pair with sword and use the w that prevents purge. None sword users may require the help of assassin jacket + the mobility skills of your weapon to make some space to prevent purge.
Specter shoes: requires the help of mobility weapons to make some space and some times Guardian helmet to remove DOT(damage over time) before you use the boots skill. Another item that helps this shoes is the Brecilien cape. Is a good method to escape from multiple gankers. The problem here is that you can get revealed if you don't clean the DOT with the helmet, random skill attacks, Guardian armor, and some other skills. One look so stupid if it doesn't work.
Harvester boots: It has some potential but it require some skill. You need to make it looks you are going in one direction when in reality you are going in the opposite direction.
Royal sandal: Weak option vs 3 or more gankers. Pairs with high mobility weapon and low cool down. It seems that the weapon of choice is Double blade staff. Healing potion may helps here since you will be faster than the ganker. Invisibility potion is an option if you understand when and why you should use it.
Soldier boots: A pretty old recommendation. Gankers are aware of it and know how to stop it. I only recommend this boots to veterans gatherers(I guess they already know by now)
Mounts:
----------------
Horse: Your starting point.
GiantStag: The gatherer mount. Top speed in 2seconds.
Moose: Get to the resources faster than the competition. Protects your T8 gear and tools with higher speed additional hit points. It's also a choice for 5.3 or 6.2 gear regular gear. If you are pretty good at escaping from gankers you can use full set of gathering gear: 5.3, 6.2, 7.1, etc. Those additional hit points will get you in the range of 2500 - 3000 making you a tough target for solo and dou gankers.
Gallant Horse: When you use the horse ability you become really hard to dismount. This may sound stupid but is better to get killed by gankers more often and bring way more resources to town when you don't get kill than being extremely safe. It's Somewhat of a weak choice if T6 resources drop bellow 1k. Some people use it to do 2hours run searching for enchanted resources in the black zone. It might become an option on EU fresh start. Although this is the 3rd fresh start. People know what they are doing now. With orange resources bellow 1k you may want to pair it with a gathering backpack, non gathering boots with the passive ability to carry more weight and a pie if you are planning to do 5.1 & 6.0 as a main gathering collection.
Frostram: I don't think you needed. It may increase your chances of getting back safe in a 10%-15% but is too expensive.
WildBoar: People say that is safe to do run with it in the "roads". It dont like how long it takes me to collect resources in the roads. The builds I recommending here require an open map. I cant say the Boar is good or bad.
Capes:
-----------
Fort Sterling: Almost all escape builds run with a Fort Sterling cape.
Brecilien: Pairs with Specter shoes. It also helps counter cursed staff. Although your gather cap blocking skill is more than enough if you know how to use those 2.5 seconds correctly.
Undead: It does a similar job that the Moose does. It helps to protect your gear and inventory. It has other uses: You want to fight back gankers but you are to afraid to make the wrong move. This can help cover part of those mistakes. It also allow to use you none mobility weapon. But you stil need to know how to use it since is not easy for a new players. It pairs very well with other items like the sandwich and gear that let you reach 2500 hit points or higher. It might need the help of the guardian helmet since you can still die invisible vs Bear paws or cursed staff. It will have a hard time trying to proctect low gear or hit points. It also has some problems vs ganking squads. This is a pretty old game. Gankers figure out how to deal with the Undead cape. If you contantly visiting places with 4 or more gankers stick to Fort sterling cape.
Gathering backpack: It will get to a point in which you will be hard to catch even without the Fort Sterling cape. A 25%-30% extra vs the cost of you entire build doesnt make the cut but It will start to add up if you dont get kill in days or a couple of weeks. You should arrive with to the gathering location with a Fort sterling cape equip so you don't let people know how greedy you are.
Potions:

Gigantify: One of the best options. You rarely go wrong by having this in the potion slot.
Invisibility: Usually useless in Red Zone with some many Gankers using Bear paws. It will need the help of guardian helmet.
Healing: Like invisibility potion. It requires some skill. Its good vs Bear paws if you are faster than the Bear paws.
Clean potion: I forgot the name of this potion. I think is useful while mounted. Your cape will take care of the first attemp of rooting and after being dismounted the potion can take care of the 2nd attempt. The Knight helmt can take care of thrid attemp but it will limit your options vs Bear paws. You should use 1-2 anti root options unless the gankers of your area rely on roots.
Food:
---------
Sandwich: It doesn't hurt to have additional hit points. The item start to make sense if it get you close to 2500-2600.
Pie: Same concept of the gathering backpack. Start with the sandwich.
Bag:
---------
I gave some advice like this 3 years ago. Until this day 5.2 exelent quality is still the better choice but you can follow the same gathering backpack principle mention above if you want to go higher. I'm a greedy gatherer myself and I dont think anything higher than this is required.
Gankers:
--------------------
They are good for Red Zone(more on that later). This players need to keep up with your speed, reveal you from invisibility or root you. If they are alone in Red Zone and if you are not getting kill fast enough or for whatever reason you decide to fight back and lower down 40%-50% of his health, other blue players will see this and engage into fight. Thats the reason why I mention the 2500 HP mark and the undead cape. Some "Blue berries" might save you if they see the ganker with a half HP bar.
With multiple gankers you can decide to teleport back to town or being arrogant and greedy like myself and refuse to go back town with less than 80% capacity. With time you can tell where they are coming from. It becomes a hit or miss but after multiple deaths you start to understand how they move.
Is great when they are 4 more gankers. This will scare the ox guys that thinks that is impossible to be catch on an Ox. It also keeps the resources in check. With no gankers there's no resources to collect in Red Zone. Its sounds crazy but sometimes is better to gather in those zones with high ganker count. You just need to wait at the entrance to a yellow zone. You wont regreat waiting must of the time. They know when they are 5+ of them it makes no sense to stay on a single map since it will scare everybody. They usually on the move.
Some other tips:
---------------------------
-If you are being chase while mounted and the ganker dismount behind you, you might need to turn left, right, back. Anything but foward. The reason why he's dismounting is becuase by the time you see the gankers infront of you the one dismounted behind you will have his skills ready to dismount you.
-You can have your combat chat selected and make sure you remove anything else that doesn't has to do with deaths. On the bottom right you can see the amount of gankers. I always have my eyes on that part of the screen.
-Gather Blue & yellow zones until you can get at least 5 "sets" of gear: 5x mobility weapons, 5 gathering sets, 5x Fort sterling capes, 5x Giant stags, etc. This will give you the ability of gathering in RZ, BZ and mist with less fear. You can do things like gather big patches of resources, gather close to hide outs and castles in Black Zone and other crazy things that are hard to do if you are on just 1 set of gear.
EU fresh start:
------------------------
If you are planning to gathering in danger zones on a fresh start server and you are not a veteran I recommend you to start with something like Wood, Ore or Fiber. Stone will be painfull to gather in Red Zone, or even worst in Black zone if you don't have a deep understanding about what was explain previuosly. Everybody knows that the gatheres will most likely start with Stone. Gathers, Guilds and Gankers will focus their attention on Highland and mountain maps. This is the 3rd fresh start so people are well prepare.
The Hide should only be first line if you are planning to stay in Blue Zones. Not able to kill a mob in 1 "combo cycle" might get you in trouble. The more time it takes you to kill a mob the more time you will make noise bringing awareness to gankers. And even if you get to kill the mob fast enough you have no skills to run away. You may need to do something like saving your E skill, W skill or buy time with your chest piece. Its not an easy task in full loot zones. I recommend undead cape and high HP in this situations. Thats how I level up hide in danger zones in the West server.

i can't wait to get better gear, gonna go gank t8 gatherers in yellow zones. they're the most cancerous type of player. literally will steal a purple bush from a new player with their insta harvest t8 tool. my god i hate them so much.
