sir, how to record emission spectra for upconverting materials?

At 5:49 the maximum absorbance is at 460 nm, but used 440 nm in the emission at 8:00? The excitation is < 500 nm, but used 530 nm for the emission at 16:30?

What exactly is an excitation spectrum?
I think this was not explained in the last lectures..
