As an American, I embody these traits, nearly all of them. No wonder my French coworkers always got along with me so well.

Very French indeed! I am French but I've lived abroad for a few years, and one thing I've brought back is paying people compliments. French people often don't know how to react to them, though!

Love the facial expression one! hahaha! I found myself getting frustrated with my family back in the USA because the meal times were not a real place to truly visit and catch up. They were always in a rush to eat and leave. This is a HUGE difference and I wish they would just chill out, order dessert and stay seated and chat!

I'm french and living abroad for 3,5 years in a country where motorists are very respectful of pedestrians... but I can't trust them, I simply can't! So I can totally relate in the awkward moment you are describing!

The more I learn, the more I realize how French I’ve always been on the inside. Now I can add my disdain for the top sheet to my répertoire of Frenchiness. Merci beaucoup pour les détails si important!

I LOVE the points covered in your video SO much! Sounds like Canadians and New Zealanders have LOTS in common (politeness, waiting for turns, crossing roads, food, etc.). I've been with my French partner for 8 yrs and through your videos (and Kate's from Unintentially Frenchified), I finally understand him and the culture SO much better! Good luck on getting your citizenship! You're very well-versed in the French culture and speak it so well (even though you say your accent may be rusty). Knowing you, I think it'll go swimmingly!

Same here with the lunches! It's been hard to plan ahead enough to have time (and have a meal ready to go) for a hot lunch, now that I'm back in the U.S. and back to a tight midday schedule. Now I find myself cramming in a full hot lunch in 20 minutes, which isn't ideal, but I don't want to go back to sandwiches and being completely starving by the time I get home at

You're such an hoot ! I laughed from the beginning to the end of the video ! Every single quirky habit you picked up is so true even the bad ones and yet you show so much benevolence towards french people ,I am so glad you'll get french citizenship soon, France needs more people like you ! Alors, bienvenue parmi nous ;)

I’m American, but spent a good chunk of childhood (and grad school) in England. The room temperature/no ice in drinks is a habit that has completely stuck with me, even though I’ve been back in the States for awhile now. My American friends will often make fun of me for it, but the ice is just too cold!

What's funny is that for me (French with an Australian partner and living in NZ), it's the exact opposite. I'm starting lose (unfortunately) all those habits you're talking about and getting the AUSNZ ones instead.

I'm in the US and I always check both ways even when I have the right to cross. I never knew anyone doesn't.

I am 11th generation French American. Both families are French and all of these things are what we do. But I do like my top sheet and my high performance car.

Im in UK, the top sheet thing baffles me, no need when there is a cover on the duvet. I see Americans with the duvet and no cover, that baffles me too, it's meant to have a cover! As for cards, my French friends don't really do them, but are happy to receive them. They tend to keep them when they get one. I maybe get a birthday or a Christmas card, rarely both, or my friend gets our English friend to get one and write it on his behalf. I did get a valentine card last year, that he chose and signed himself as he was in England just before lockdown .

The peeling fruit thing! Every time I see my french partner's mum or sister peel a peach or the alike I think what the heck? why? Then you just end up with extremely sticky fingers and juice everywhere... But funny I didn't know it's a french thing.
