I can think of a few good uses for a basket like this. I think it's a really good idea to use a check/plaid fabric for the main fabric on this bag.

Angel, this time I am involving in my kids the end of the elementary school to move up to middle school and it’s busy so I want to be with them more. When things settle down I will come back daily. Hi Vivian, I love this basket! It is adorable and very useful. I think it will be great as a purse too. I need to get some heavy weight interfacing and I will give it a try. I think it would also be great as a beach bag if it had a drawstring top. Love to you and your family. Lynne
If you're planning to put heavy stuffs in the basket like fruits, I suggest you to sew the top part of the basket too ( top stitch all around where you flap down the top)
