    Being from Paris, the most surprising is filming that much Gare du Nord and not having the camera stolen.

    Not being from a big theatre city I'm so used to travelling to London to see theatre that it's refreshing to watch someone actually travelling outside of the country to watch a production. I'm now curious about that version of Cabaret, so if it lasts enough, who knows, I might pop in and watch.
    For now, I'm travelling once more to Madrid (which is becoming a bigger theatre city by the minute) to see for the fourth and final time the splendid version of Company by Antonio Banderas, which is closing in one month.

    So now you know how a french feels when he comes to London to see some shows.
    Yous should have said (and noticed) that Lido2 was formerly the Lido, for decades, a famous french cabaret kinda like the Moulin Rouge with nude dancers and feathers. In fact, the tiaras and strass you showed in the entrance are from the previous Lido.
    The place was bought by Accor Hotel and transformed into a theatre home for musicals. Cabaret is their first show actually and the inside with tables and the center stage are relics from what was the Lido before. But it will now close for a year, take the time to be rebuilt and refreshed for new shows. Let's see how Lido2 will look at the reopening next december.

    Looks great, I'll have to look into flights! Glad you enjoyed it.
    Reminds me of the first time I saw Cabaret - I was in Berlin for my 18th, went on my own on a whim, not fully sure what I was letting myself in for! It was proper Cabaret style seating in a large semi-permanent tent, no booked seats, performed mostly in German (obviously, I do speak enough to get by), and I ended up sat with some older local ladies who were very welcoming and fun. It was an absolutely amazing production with exactly the right atmosphere for the show. Emcee and the Cabaret girls were having a blast interacting with everyone all the way through. Very fond memories!

    I feel like the Eurostar is at least as fast to Paris, as you don't have to get to the train station so far ahead of time, and you end your journey at the Gare du Nord rather than having to take a train there from the airport. I had to laugh because I had the same experience going outside to only to be greeted by the Hotel Richmond lol. Guess I expected France to be more... French! Thanks for the theatergoing guide - would love to see some shows there!

    I know you said the train was slower- but bear in mind that you go from central london to central paris and you don't have to deal with arriving at the airport hours early, I bet you'd find the overall trip time on the train better :P

      @@MickeyJoTheatre Fair- sucks that flying is often cheaper 🙁I hate flying 😂like the trip to the airport, the wait, the rush to the gate in time, busy boarding then the same in reverse at the other end, trains always feel much calmer (if the route isn't a nightmare at least) you get on, sit down and get off and the to and froms at either end are usually less painful

    If you understand French well enough, you should definitely pay a visit to the Mogador next time you pay Paris a visit. I saw their French productions of Sister Act and Chicago and the latter was as good as the Broadway and West End versions. It's a beautiful theater too and I hear their current production of The Lion King (le Roi Lion) is a must-see.!

      When I was in Paris several years ago, I went to see a Moliere play at La Comedie Francaise. I discovered that my French was not quite as good as I'd thought it was (especially since I was tired at the end of a long day), but still really enjoyed it.

    • @martinfrenette4099
      @martinfrenette4099 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@callalily3994 You did not pick the easiest place to test your French either as "La Comédie" is known for its rather classical plays with a very "polished" or "refined" Fench. Something like a musical where the movement and the music speak as much as the words might have been easier on you. That being said, La Comédie is one stunning-looking theater (or at least, it was in 2003 when I attended a play).

    • @BellePullman
      @BellePullman ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Bobo (not offensive, B-0 b-0 being a train thing) has been replaced by feminine engine Coco - modelled after famous designer and literal Nazi Coco Chanel. Didn't used to be an offensive character until a couple years ago! The character is meant to be the "underwater train" - presumably the Eurostar, which isn't actually a French train at all!

    • @MickeyJoTheatre
      @MickeyJoTheatre  ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends how close you live to the airport! I've done about 10 Eurostar trips in the last year and on a bad day it can be just as much faff to get through their check in as at an airport.
