brother, how do I get that version of the rom? (SHA-1 checksum of ecf39ec5a33e6a6f832f03e8ffc61c5d53f4f90b) I already tried with more than 20 Roms and they don't work. please help me. I love the work you did.
Nice work, im hoping a retroarch release will come soon. As good as super metroid is, Metroid doesn't get the love it should, I think this will change that 😊
I finally figured out what I was doing wrong. I didn't read about the part in the description how important it was to get a ROM with the correct check sum. I had gotten the wrong one and was wondering why the game seemed buggy. Like Kraid sprite not showing up or the pause screen text not showing. Unfortunately my glitched playthrough wasn't creating a save file, so now I'm having to start all over with the correct ROM. Ah well
A great mod, it's like an alternate Zero Mission with brand new graphics... through for some reason Samus shoots whenever I hold the jump button longer than a couple of seconds.
Might be a controller input issue - did you double check your input settings? Keep in mind there are separate inputs for the turbo A/B buttons and the normal A/B buttons.
An update is needed for the Retroarch core. I spoke with the emulator author on this, and there are no immediate plans to merge some of the new features of Mesen 2. The door was open to doing this eventually, but probably not for a while. So, unless someone else steps in to work on the core, it may be a while...
A shame. I was hoping to get these running on stuff like Steam Deck since Retroarch works good on it but I guess I’ll have to find something else to do with those games
any logical explanation why it would run at 1 FPS on my laptop with windows 10 on? has it occurred to anyone else? i have all the Mesen settings at default...
Correct - I spoke with the Mesen 2 emulator author, Sour, not too long ago on this. Sounds like there are no immediate plans to update Retroarch as there are other projects going on. So, unless something changes, it may still be quite a while (maybe someone else will ultimately step in and make the time investment to merge some of the latest features).
Unfortunately, the pack only currently works with Mesen 2. Older versions of Mesen such as 0.9.2 will not be compatible and other emulators such as Mednafen also will not be compatible.
Got Messen up and running, but when I get to the part to run a "vanilla rom" it does not auto fill in the folder with the other files so I am unable to continue with the HD pack install. Any idea what I might be doing wrong?
Look under your Documents folder. You may find the folders there. Mesen might select this location depending on the data storage location checked at the Configuration stage of setup.
This did not work for me.....it just freaks out. I wonder why. It sort of switches back and forth between the HD screen and the normal screen... when I hit start... it really freaks out.
Hmm.. that doesn't sound like something I've seen before. I assume your checksum matches the checksum noted on Romhacking.net and you are using a recent version of Mesen 2?
@@NESGameFan I am and they do... i deleted everything and downloaded it again, same thing. Tried both version of Musen 2 too. Followed everything from your video exactly...
I'm just getting jumbled graphics. I assured the checksum is what's required, as well. Just tested that other HD packs work fine. Anyone else run into this?
Found the cause myself. There was apparently a fluke when unzipping the HD-pack folder. If you start up the game and there's random tiles scattered about, try unzipping again to get a fresh HD-pack folder.
I have run through these steps 4 times start to finish and it only loads the HD stuff for frames at a time not sure what I am doing wrong need help please
When you say "frames at a time" do you mean it's just running very slowly? If so, the pack is fairly CPU demanding and there's a chance your setup may not be able to run it at full speed.
If you are looking for a tutorial for sound replacement that could apply to any NES game (not just Metroid), unfortunately, one does not yet exist yet. It is fairly advanced and requires ASM knowledge.
@@jaodasilva7993 Ah, based on your stretch wording, I should have probably realized you intended to mean stretch to widescreen. I think I'm on the same page now. For that, go to settings, video, general, and uncheck the integer scale option. Also, in the aspect ratio drop down in the same location select widescreen 16:9. I think that will achieve what you are looking to do.
Stumbled upon this while looking for rom hacks and I would love to install it, but this seems super complicated and I can’t say, that I understood this tutorial so far. I guess, you have to use this Mesen emulator and do all those steps in some way explained here and you can‘t just patch the correct rom with an ips file and use it in OpenEmu, is this assumption correct?
Correct - there is an older video here that explains an alternate install process that you may have an easier time following (th-cam.com/video/iMBNTRN_IyQ/w-d-xo.html). The process for all of the packs is mostly the same. Once you figure out one pack, all of the others are very similar, if not the same. Usually, the hardest part is just obtaining a compatible ROM. Note, you should use a vanilla ROM and no manual .ips patching on the user end should be needed. An .ips file is bundled with Metroid: HD. But, Mesen takes care of the work by auto patching once you've followed the install process.
Yes, you can import and edit any of the sprites you like. With that said, a Zero suit is actually in the base game already. Fast forward past the credits to the end of the video here: m.th-cam.com/video/5MJAnDQhwHs/w-d-xo.html&pp=ygUKbWV0cm9pZCBoZA%3D%3D
a question. I liked the work they did. but they don't think it's better to do everything and upload the work to download it directly. I don't understand why so many videos explaining it. The best thing is to have the rar ready and be able to enjoy the game.
Fair point. I considered putting together everything (minus the ROM for legal reasons). However, I decided against that out of respect for the emulator author and to also help reduce the chance of compatibility issues down the line (due to users downloading a separate emulator from a link that would become outdated over time).
Are your FPS below 60? If so, and if your ROM checksum matches the checksum on the Romhacking.net thread, it may be CPU related. Mesen is a fairly demanding emulator and the pack is probably one of the most demanding packs out there. Try closing all other applications and windows. Also, OBS is known to slow it down as well.
@@NESGameFan Thanks for responding OBS? at Idle fps is 60, but drop greatly when I give any input. That explains it. I'm currently still using an Xeon X5660 ( first gen ) I'll try again when I start using my other PC which is modern.

This is so surreal haha. To think that this is STILL 'just' a NES game underneath.
Oh that is cool! Sorta doesn't look to tricky to make personalized changes to this either, thats really impressive😁
this would look wild in widescreen
