I thought that too, but apparently, it's named after a town in Arizona that the gem was originally found in and that's pronounced "Peri-dot". And the general consensus is that it does pronounce the "t" interestingly.

Geologist here! The reason peridot comes in 2 different shades is because peridot is just a magnesium rich version of the mineral olivine! Olivine is either iron or magnesium rich, and that difference is what causes the color variation 😊

But secondly I would, surprisingly, heavily advise AGAINST studying geology 😂 The job market is GOD AWFUL unless you have a doctorate. Now environmental science or hydrology on the other hand...
I've always loved how a small difference in the makeup of a stone or gem makes it vary so much! Especially when it comes to topaz and quartz. I learned watching a Game Theorists video that quartz on rare occasion can be green if exposed to radiation, when they were talking about the Sonic games and I thought that's really cool.
My husband has been interested in studying some geology, mostly because he loves metal detecting and we pan for gold as a family. We haven't found a lot but some basic geology knowledge would probably benefit us a lot with our hobbies of choice.

Also KATIE!!! I am a 28 year old woman, fully grown, and sTEVEN UNIVERSE IS MY FAVORITE SHOW ON THE PLANET. I promise you it is worth your watch. Even though it's a "children's show," it develops itself in a way that is so rich and relatable even to an adult. The narrative is beautiful but deep at the same time. I really, really highly recommend it. If you end up not watching it, of course that's okay, too. =D But trust me as a grown woman that it is GREAT.

Oh goodness, Katie. Those museum bins started my gemstone obsession at a young age! 😄 I now have some beautiful large specimens and, though I haven't officially counted, easily over 100 gemstones. I loved those bins so much! The gemstone shop near my city has one for kids and I still feel the pull of it. LOL
I was OBSESSED with collecting those rolled polished stones when I was a kid... thinking about getting back into it tbh 🤔😂😂

Speaking of embeds being damaged during shipping, I went to pick up my diamond soap from last month and the guy who handed me my package straight up shook the package, right in front of me, before handing it to me. Like I said, mine was a diamond so no embeds, but I was like “damn, really dude?”
Have you thought of getting some recycled newspaper and stuffing the boxes with it to keep the soaps from moving during shipping?

I just use masking tape to hold the sides, those clips look very first-world, lol

I loved those museum bins! I have a very vivid memory of rummaging through them with my grandpa who has now passed. He was convinced the best ones were at the very bottom and put his whole arm in to turn the rock pile over. The employees thought we were crazy but I had a blast. Even 20+ years later the memory makes me smile.

I'm so excited for this soap! The palette is literally me, the deep golden colours and the green match my hair and my eyes, and its my birthstones!
But also, Australia has natural rock caves that are available for tours occasionally and have those bins, but usually there are a lot of shops that have many crystals and stones to buy for us magpies 🤣

When I was little, and then we did it again with my children 2 years ago when we went to the mountains in Gatlinburg, TN, we would go to this store and buy a bag of sand/dirt. There was a little river of water running through the store in a wooden trough thing. You would take your bag of sand/dirt and pour it into a sifter type thing. Then sticking it the water and shaking it around a bit, it would get rid of the dirt and sand and leave behind some stones. They claimed there was a chance someone would get real gold as well as some other valuable and precious stones. I never did get anything like that but you would have never known looking at me. I was so proud of my stones and cubic zirconium! 😂😂

My best part was hearing the stones click together in my hands. When you do that on your videos its so soothing. I have childhood memories of my parents shop being right next to a jewelry and rock shop. I would see them tumbled and put into jewelry. My favorite rock was always the purple amethysts.

When I was really young my dad had to travel for work, so he was gone every other week and I always missed him like crazy. To give me a little something extra to look forward to, he started bringing me home some of those little stones, and I loved them so much.

Okay, I adore this channel already. As a kid, I was obsessed with soaps in the shape of animals, characters and objects. I had giraffes, Disney Castle, Princess soaps, elephants, cheetahs, Tigers, you basically name it and at some point? I had it. All still packaged(much to my mother's irritation! Soap is meant to be used she said). Only time I'd open it was to literally look at it and smell it. I never wanted to ruin the little piece of art I had. I still have my little collection in storage nearly 18 years later.

I always got the stones as a kid, and was a rock hound for years to follow. Still have most of my stones, and some great unpolished semi precious stones Crystal's, and agates and clusters on display in my office/craft room.

I never got the rocks from museums and gift shops myself, but every time my dad went on a work trip he would bring me back a mini bag of a few stones. Currently I have a whole container full sitting in my closet cause I don't have the space to have them out as a decoration in my room, but whenever I move out or have my own place I want to have them displayed because I think there a really cool physical representation of my early childhood memories. Also this soap is amazing Katy is so talented!

Those little rock bags were THE BEST THING EVER! I always got rose quartz and anything with strips (like tiger's eye). That was always one of my favorite souvenirs, I think I probably got like 3 over the years!

It's pretty cool watching videos of soaps that I bought. (.w. ) I got this one, Floating Lights, Walt Disney's Flower Fields, and Bumble Bee; and I have to say, this one is my FAVORITE both for the scent and for the lather/feel on my skin. I have severe eczema that was getting worse during quarantine (no idea what was setting it off), but after a month, I haven't had a single outbreak!!! I'm so happy. Thank you Katie for your brilliant work!!!

Edit: This soap is lovely, but I'm a little sad that Peridot wasn't the featured stone because it is my favorite of the gemstones, it is such a pretty green color.
same. i was so excited but this isn't what i was expecting sadly. peridot is more expensive so i'm guessing that's why sardonyx was chosen.
I agree, I think the soap looks nice, but peridot is definitely the more mainstream birth stone for August, so it would make more sense for peridot to be featured and for sardonyx to be the accent, or even not there are at all.
Peridot is a semi precious stone and it is quite expensive. If she put them on a soap would it be worth it to pay double the price? I'm sure that's why it's sardonyx

I was ALL ABOUT those rock collections at museums! I always got clear quartz, rose quartz, aventurine or jade, citrine, and sodalite (because it's often used as a cheaper alternative to September's birthstone)!
I think the soaps are really pretty but for some reason they aren’t my favorites of the soaps I’ve seen you make. Maybe it’s because I’m waiting for November because that’s my birthday month and I plan to go crazy😅

I have an August birthday and like a nice peridot, but it's not my favorite either. Too much food/copper, not enough green. Still pretty though

I loved those rock bins! I always went for amethyst and rose quartz. My kids also love small gems so my mom will bring them back rock filled velvet bags when she goes on vacation.
Most gems have been in Steven universe. And Steven universe future (the epilogue series after steven universe)

As much as I like the peridot green, that sardonyx needs a soap of its own. What a gorgeous combination.
I wish you made more quantities of each soap or limit each soap like 1 per person. Cuz every time i get on your site, everything is sold out!!! And i mean every thing!!! 😪

Omg, I loved getting the rocks from the museum! Quartz had to be in each bag.
Oh I always got clear Quartz too!!! And in my small town our museum had some small "fool's gold" we could excavate with cool tools.

That green combo would make an AMAZING candy apple colour for fall or Halloween!!!!!
