    How Fresh Water Generators (FWG) Work
    Seawater is pumped to the condenser heat exchanger. Some of it passes through the condenser and then passes through the evaporator heat exchanger. Some of it is pumped through an educator/ejector and is discharged overboard. Some of the saltwater is siphoned from the condenser to the ejector in order to maintain a vacuum on the FWG shell.
    Hot water is pumped to the evaporator where it heats the seawater. The hot water (often engine jacket water) is then discharged from the evaporator and returned to the hot water main circuit.
    The FWG shell is placed under vacuum so that the hot water can boil the seawater at a temperature below 100 degrees Celsius. The seawater evaporates and exits the evaporator as water mist. The water mist passes through a demister and condenses on the condenser. The condensed water is distilled water and is pumped out of the FWG by a small fresh water pump. At this stage, the saltwater has been desalinated and the process of desalination is complete.

    There is a salt water desalination project at my village and so we do appreciate this kind of machine because we do struggle with fresh water. Thank you.

    great video. One small issue: there is no mist formation, only water vapor. The demister is only to catch tiny droplets that result from boiling.

    AMazing video exlained with details ! But one question ! How is poured water enters the condenser (any small pipe we can not see on video ?} and why if we heat more the sea water passing it first from the condenser we help at procces of production ? Many thenks !

    Sir please explain how salinity is check,and how salinometer work...thanks for video

    • @vikasnair4705
      @vikasnair4705 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Salinity is checked by means of a salinometer. The principle usually is based on the fact that when the water produced is via distillation, the conductivity of the produced fresh/distilled water will be very low ( because it will still have trace elements of minerals in it), and if there is excess carryover of salt during initial stages of fresh water generator operation, then the fresh water will have higher conductivity. So the conductivity of water is proportional to the salt content. It is preferable to have salt content of less than 6 ppm. This limit is slightly variable across areas.

    How the seawater is getting preheated in the condenser before entering into the evaporator??

  • @greenpedal370
    @greenpedal370 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    If you are lowering the pressure of the vessel, the fresh water mist will be sucked out of the low pressure pipe. How is that prevented.

  • @airjordan347

    Does that vacuum line is connected above the demister or below? Ideally it should be below to promote evaporation but in video it shows above. Please reply

    Can you purchase such a generator, now?
    If so, from whom?
    What is cost to produce 20 tons of fresh water per day?
    Many thanks
