I watched this video a month ago, roughly. I haven’t actually used double sided tape in my shop, yet, but I did buy some and I intend to use it. Fast forward to yesterday when I’m putting new grips on my golf clubs, which requires double sided tape…eureka moment as I struggled with the darn tape after using the dreaded scissors. Somehow the knowledge imparted by this video kicked in, making my day far better. Many thanks! I am somewhat new to woodworking and I am finding myself pulling from the various videos I’ve watched, employing some great concepts without really thinking about them. It’s becoming organic for me. On to the next video…😊

I saw this vid years ago and just rewatched it. Some game changing stuff for me.....I got a few rolls of the recommended tape and started making paper tails! Such a handy tool to save time if you keep a roll of tape handy.
Great video - I use double-stick to keep my dog where I can see him while I’m working in the shop. When time to go I pop him off the floor with a snow shovel and off we go!
Hi. I recently built your style of bandsaw circle jig. Works like a charm!. After using it for a while I saw a couple of tweaks to the jig. Instead of the dovetail grove for the size adjustment I installed a T track channel. Also I incorporated a ball bearing for the center of the doughnut. Spins with no binding. Love you work.

That was very, very, very helpful - good content that I have not seen elsewhere. I actually avoided using double sided tape because of the frustration of trying to peel of the layer but you have solved that issue for me forever. Thanks!

In Canada you can get the paper double side tape in the paint department at home Depot. Double sided painters tape. I use it for sticking a paper print out of my pattern to my wood so I can cut using scroll saw or the band saw.
DST also works great when making multiples without creating fixtures or jigs to do so. Such as on a belt sander when free sanding down to a marked shape, but still needing copies or mirrored copies.

It might sounds like sacrilege, but I have seen similar ( I'm not sure how the quality compares) in Dollar Tree stores in the craft section. Not as large roll as yours, but for someone to learn the use of it or don't need a lot it's perfect. Love the video by the way. I used to restore antique radios and I sure could have used tutorials like yours. Alas it was pre-TH-cam times.
Wow, I didn't know about this tape. I was going to get some "poster tape" but this looks much better. "Intertape 591 Double Sided Flatback Paper Tape: 1/2 in. x 36 yds. (Beige)" from Walmart for $8.66. I couldn't find where you listed your supplier. Thank you!!
I have been using double sided tape for years , and nobody can tell me anything about DS tape that I didn't already know. Er, except that I have been using the wrong stuff and I shouldn't be cutting the backing off flush. Did you know that after taping two pieces of wood together if you give them a good squeeze with a clamp it can take up to two days to separate them again! All joking aside a brilliant vid I learnt a lot in a very short time.

I have been using a roll of carpet and it only took one time to figure out it is too sticky and a pain in the bit to get off so I started just laying down some cheap beige masking tape and then putting the carpet tape on top of that so it was easy to pull the masking tape off and the carpet tape comes with it. Works great but your way is better. I just ordered a roll of the Intertape! One thing that has worked great with the carpet tape because it is SO sticky it can be used over and over many times. I have a section 4 foot extruded aluminum that has a perfect straight edge on it so I laid down some strips of the carpet tape on it and I can stick this onto any board that needs a jointed straight edge just like you did with the piece of wood but when I am done and separate the 2 pieces I put the pealed off tape backing back on the carpet tape keeping it from getting dirty. I have used that straight edge at least 25 times now without adding new tape and it has worked perfect.
Applying the tape direct from the roll. So obvious, so simple - so overlooked. Leaving the tail of backing paper to peel off easy. Simple yet genius! If you only knew just how much time I spent trying to separate the paper from the tape once applied. DUHHHHHHHHH! Thank you for that.
I love your videos mate..got hooked on the japanese work burning because of you...i love the fact that you never know what your going to get ..but when you see the finished product you go ...wow...i can do this ..im an irish man living in wales uk ..and i use the double sided stuff for cutting circles on the router table without leaving a centre hole...i usually cut perspex or is it plexiglass in the new world?..it was ace watching all your videos mate...i thank you .
Subscribed! Very practical *skill based* tips, and many of them! I expect that I'll forget most of them, and then after I make a mistake, I'll smack myself on the forehead and go back and do it right the second time.
The usefulness of the double sided tape is so overlook'd where I live, I can't even find one that is thin. Just the thick ones and they leave residue, now that isn't good for my applications. Great video as always.
I would like your thoughts on tape repositioning, and removal from wood. If it does not go down correctly, can it be restuck if you didn't press too hard? If it was used for aligning pieces for drilling, how do you get the tape off completely? I was going to buy 1" but the local distributor of 591 also carries 3/4". From your video, it looks like it is a lot stronger than I thought and the narrower width might be enough and generally more useful, not to mention, cheaper. Thanks.
I have found that 3/4 works well for most things that I do. Some of these things are pretty situational. Tape repositioning will work most times but if it touches itself you kind of have to start over. Also, if you stick a piece of tape to a used piece of tape it will typically pull it up quicker than if you pick at it with your fingernail. It most situations the tape comes off with no residue in my experience. If there is residue, some denatured alcohol works great for removal. Hope that helps!

The great video it actually has numerous tips and tricks that I know I can apply my work. Although I've been in the construction industry for over 40 years I'm new to trying to do finer woodworking. As I watched channels I'm really discouraged that all these young guys who have lots of money and brand new tools and can make awesome videos but really have no experience or any information that I can use. That's not true with this channel lots of great usable information thank you again

Inspire Woodcraft ... s l o w ... fiddly.... and therefore expensive. Most of these TH-camrs have never actually had to meet any kind of production schedule - they make lots of jigs and shop projects but very little actual woodwork or casework.

The only way I could think of is with a bandsaw but all I can really say is be careful! I tried with a roll of heavy duty tape once and it didn’t work the greatest.

I watched your video a few weeks ago and subsequently seems I have developed a sensitivity to CA glue so your technique doesn't require CA glue . I was using the blue tape/ ca glue before as well as the thicker double sided tape. It seems your technique does away with those items on most projects. Thanks.
Good video, but my double sided is different to yours. It doesn’t have a sticky side. It’s basically two pieces of tape stuck to each other, and you have to peel them apart to reveal the piece that’s sticky, and the piece that’s the non sticky film.
Just pull them apart. Depending on how much tape you use of course and how sticky it is, it will come apart with relative ease. In my experience there is a lot more shear holding power, sort of like super glue, which makes it great for templates.

That's a great workaround for the carpet tape! I actually just saw a video today where they did that too, oddly enough.

Good info
I watched your video a few weeks ago and subsequently seems I have developed a sensitivity to CA glue so your technique doesn't require CA glue . I was using the blue tape/ ca glue before as well as the thicker double sided tape. It seems your technique does away with those items on most projects. Thanks.

Good video, but my double sided is different to yours. It doesn’t have a sticky side. It’s basically two pieces of tape stuck to each other, and you have to peel them apart to reveal the piece that’s sticky, and the piece that’s the non sticky film.
Wish I could’ve seen how you separate templates from finished pieces.
I use double sided tape and scissors when I want to get frustrated and throw stuff around the shop...LOL :)

How do you get some of those pieces apart?
Just pull them apart. Depending on how much tape you use of course and how sticky it is, it will come apart with relative ease. In my experience there is a lot more shear holding power, sort of like super glue, which makes it great for templates.
Hopefully, I can actually get to make something someday besides sticks. lol

Of course the first thing is to use a tack cloth on each surface to remove any dust etc.!
