    Normally, I would side with the slaves, but there is one problem. Wernher. He is obviously going for a power play here. He claims to want to help the slaves, but the way he treats them after the revolt, "whipping them into shape"... that's not how someone treats people he cares for. I wouldn't be overly surprised if I learned his betrayal of Ashur was to seize power. Meanwhile, Ashur seems to actually care for the city and those inside it. It's hard to say what he'll do if the cure actually comes about, but I think it's much more likely he'll give it out fairly than Wernher.
    Both cases end with the people of the Pitt still there, working in the mills or the Steelyard, and while they may not be getting beaten, they're still being subjected to the horrible, unique brand of radiation the Pitt has to offer. Like Far Harbor, The Pitt really doesn't have any morally satisfying ending.

    • @TheSniper721
      @TheSniper721 6 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      yep I got to side with Ashur morally they are both wrong but that thing with Werner is why I know I made the right choice.

    • @Wulf169
      @Wulf169 6 ปีที่แล้ว +32

      I'm glad you decide to be a slaver, now live with that. Wernher isn't trafficking more slaves into The Pitt, frees the slaves and work on a cure is underway. Maybe Sandra would have been better at finding a cure, she made her choice to attack me instead of working with the slave rebellion. Asher lies to you, never had reason beyond his own dream of glory to enslave others so he could have his steel mill that even the brotherhood understood was in such irradiated and polluted hole that it waste better to just save the children they could and walk away from it. His ways do not show a man who is looking for redemption.

      Vonrek Do you really think a man with an IQ of a lowly raider with an obvious power play would be able to develop a cure when he is "cutting corners" in the research on a newborn? Most likely he'll end up killing the poor thing. Also, you seem to be using current world logic and morals in a world where those morals just dont work anymore. The Steel mill is a piece of technology that is not even remotely easy to recreate. So it IS important for the reconstruction of the city. And as the fact that the slaves stay after their victory, that means that unless that idiot is successful in making the cure, which is highly improbable, this is the last generation of free people that will live in the Pitt and that technology will be lost along with the cure.

    Honestly, and I feel bad saying this, I would side wish Asher. His wife is a legitimate scientist and she is clearly working hard to help the people of the Pitt. I ordinarily don't support the "needs of the many" mantra, but in this case I feel that the long term benefits would be worth it.

      This, this is different. This is a city that yes. Is actually on the rise. Ashur and his wife are legitimately working to fix it. And before they were there it was as they say, a lot worse. Order, when it comes to a place can take dark roads. Roads I'd not want to walk. But if this group of raiders are doing more than raiding, they're building a city up from the ashes, they've gone past that term.

    There are no real moral choices here, that's what makes the Pitt an interesting DLC and why people still talk about it years after it's been released. In the end it's really about which injustices you find easier to accept. I wish more of Fallout was like that, instead of most often there being clear good and evil choices. Do you leave the raiders in charge? Despiter Ashur's airs that the slaves are workers it's a lie. They are slaves, they're kidnapped, bought and sold and abused until they die working, or when a raider boss get bored. Ashur's also wrong that the Pitt couldn't survive without the slaves. They couldn't keep making all the stuff they are, but they could scavenge and raid like other people. If they were smart they'd leave the area until the cure was available then return. It's not like anyone else could take over. And with fewer people there would be fewer troggs.
    On the other hand Werner replaces Ashur in all but name. And Midea is hardly a scientist. The idea that she could come up with a cure faster than Sandra could is absurd. So getting rid of Ashur and the raiders doesn't really change much. They don't have raider bosses beating them, but they also aren't out raiding for food either. Logic would say that after killing the raiders you'd get everyone to scavenge all they could carry and head back to the Capital Wasteland. They'd be away from the toxic sludge and could try to recover, set up a new home. Send Marie off to Rivet City where real scientists (or what passes for it in the post apocalypse) can study her. But we aren't given that as an option.

      Their is a good choice and a evil choice but it’s not from the point of view of the pit. The pit is the only way for mankind to rebuild so it is wrong risk it’s safety over the slaves freedom evil as it is we know life is worse out of the pit and their suffering would help more people who have to deal with worse odds in death claws and super mutants who are not found in the pit and are harder to deal with. It’s not nice to think about but in fallout you don’t get to have the nice ending because life isn’t nice anymore because options are limited and opportunities are on a timer before the window closes and the chance is lost

    • @wimbusbert1249
      @wimbusbert1249 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      The fact that the baby lives either way eliminates the moral dilemma for me. Siding with the slaves should have resulted in an immediate cure for the slaves at the cost of the baby being killed. It's not really an interesting decision as it is in game, you should obviously side with Ashur because, like said in the original comment, there's no change to The Pitt afterward aside from the slaves don't get beat anymore and now have little to no protection.

    • @nooneinparticular5256
      @nooneinparticular5256 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Essentially, nothing changes, in the Pitt. You side with Asher, the slaves remain slaves--to be worked to death in the mills. You side with Werner, the slaves may become free to become raiders, themselves--free to get more slaves to work to death in the mills.
      It's a complete revolution: right back where it started.

    Something that stood out to me was when Ashur talks about how the Brotherhood of Steel just takes the technology they want and they don't stick around to help people, when in this game at least, under Elder Lyon's leadership, that's exactly what they're doing in the Capital Wasteland. He's a shameless opportunist and you know he'll be getting sketchy as soon as he sees a chance.

    I think the best outcome is actually to kidnap the baby, kill the raiders and then turn on Wherner and return Marie to her parents.
    Fewer slaves die as a result, most the raiders who are the ones truly responsible for the poor treatment of the slaves are dead and by the time Ashur fully rebuilds his ranks the cure would likely be closer to completion at which point the slaves would be presumably freed if Ashur is true to his word.

    Making Ashur and all the other top slavers in Fallout 3 African American men was a historical reference to the black slave owners of the civil war era. Most notably William Ellison who had one of the largest plantations and the most slaves in the south. He also donated to and supported the Confederacy, so I think it's no coincidence that the symbol on Ashur's armor resembles a Confederate flag.
    In my opinion Ashur rising up from the rubble of the Pitt to take control of it and become its slave master is a metaphor for how Ellison was born a slave, earned his freedom and then rose to enough prominence, power and wealth to purchase his own slaves. Ellison's slaves would often earn their own freedom from him and this reminds me of how some of Ashur's raiders like Reddup earned their "freedom" by fighting for it in the Pitt.

    • @penemuelwatcher2378
      @penemuelwatcher2378 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I see no historical reference...
      All I see is that Ashur had the wrong idea right from the start.
      His vision of The Pitt rising as a great city was flawed simply because The Pitt was pure blight.
      That's why the Brotherhood of Steel purged it. The land was hopeless... they killed off much of the Trogs simply because they knew that they would eventually spread and spill over to other places and states.
      He calls the Brotherhood as lazy just because he thinks The Pitt was just your Hollywood-formula oppressed land that needs help instead of purging.
      The Brotherhood scouted that place... and concluded that it posed more a threat than a potential factory/habitat/home/farm... the radiation there is the main problem. it's far worse than in The Capital Wasteland.
      Ashur developed this messianic complex right after some scavengers "rescued" him from the rubble, and claims "he saw potential" in the city.
      That was just stupid. Whatever benefit he sees in The Pitt, it becomes irrelevant simply because that place is not a habitable place for human, EVEN BY POST-APOCALYPTIC STANDARDS.

    • @phyll9599
      @phyll9599 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Interesting but I don't think so. The earn your freedom idea is as old as ancient Rome. There are numerous Romans who rose to prominence in society after earning their freedom.

    This is why I love the Pitt. Great atmosphere, interesting enemies, and the factions are cool, but the choice between the raiders and slaves is one of the best morality choices in any of the 3D Fallout games. It reinforces the idea of "damned if you do, damned if you don't."
    The raider ending sees you condoning slavery, but you have a cure for one of the most lethal afflictions in the post-War world.
    The slave ending sees you liberating innocent people from bondage and terror, but you destroy a family and kidnap a baby for harmful testing that probably won't even produce a usable cure without Sandra's help.
    It's really what I hoped the Nuka-World DLC would be for Fallout 4.

      If the choice is kill everyone in The Pitt OR allow Ashur's reign of terror to continue. The world is better off with the Pitt dead.

    shiiiiit I was actually waiting for your pov on the moral stands! Welp, gotta wait for one more day, I guess.
    Btw, I chose to side with Ashur. Not only that it *seems* like they have a better place to do the research, but also that the baby is still with her parents. Sure, Ashur is someone who loves to play god and we can see that clearly, but at least he is honest about doing a research for a cure and he doesn't lie that he knows it has one big price to pay. It's one hell of a hard choice (it's a little bit easier once I realized that Wernher is actually a fucking asshole, but it's still quite hard, considering the price it must pay).
    I can't wait to see tomorrow's video.

    while a morally reprehensible choice, i believe that allowing the Pitt to prosper under Ashur is the overall best effect to the wasteland.
