    My wife thought I had lost my mind when she heard me cheering all by myself and came running in to make sure I was OK. I was cheering because I had just heard that the spending bill didn’t get pushed through. I was cheering because every year, for as long as I can remember, I wasn’t screaming at the TV because that annual cash cow legislation wasn’t walked over to greener pastures as usual, but instead it took an unexpected detour to the slaughter house. Now, under the sanitizing light of day, I will be riveted to X to follow who is voting which way and why. I can only hope this is a new world of transparency. I don’t mind loosing a good fight if it’s a open and level playing field. At least I know the outcome isn’t predetermined and I just have to try harder the next time around.

      Are we anticipating a society where privilege no longer rules the roost? Let's start with education in the home. Next, let's look at the schools available to various sectors of society! Does a poor, immigrant or refugee child have access to the the same private school that a wealthy child might have? And... Do we all have equal opportunities to attend the universities that might allow us to become part of that precious group that Musk would like to put at the top of the list for employment?

      @@sheilareid766 I take it that you were born here. I suspect this because those comments do not cross the mind of someone who is cut from a struggling immigrant family. My family came here with nothing but the opportunities this country had to offer for those willing to make the effort to seize them. Our education in this country began by learning English by reading comic books (loaned to us by our church) around the kitchen table after dinner every night. Why comic books? The pictures conveyed the meaning of the words. We never took a handout or expected anything that we did not earn. In fact, back in the early 70’s I lost my factory job and the government was going to send me to school to learn a new trade - my father forbid me from taking the handout, so I took out a student loan and paid for the trade school myself. My work ethic was established when I was just 11, I began to become aware that my wardrobe was severely out of date (I wore hand me downs from my 2 older brothers which were already hand me downs when they wore them). If I wanted to improve my situation, I was expected to earn my own money to do it. When I wasn’t in school, I was earning $8 for a 10 hour day on a fishing boat and made additional money selling fish on the dock that had no commercial value. After 3 years, I had saved enough money to buy a clam boat and began making real money and beside the roof over my head, I became self-sufficient and was no longer a burden to my family’s finances. I was taught from a very young age that if you wanted something, you had to work your butt off to attain it. I eventually went to the trade school to learn computer programming. That was the only schooling I had after 12th grade - whatever I needed beyond that was self taught and I managed to turn all that hard work into a very successful 43 year career in a very large aerospace company. So, I have to apologize for not understanding your point of view - my upbringing simply did not allow self pity. I now live a comfortable retirement and spend my time re-enforcing the work ethics of my parents on my 3 grown children and 6 grandchildren. I would like to relay a message that my father drummed into me due to his own experiences and reasons for coming here to begin with. “Never allow the government to control your education, ability to earn a living, or your health. You loose all your freedoms the minute you do. Once lost, it is almost impossible to get them back.” Being born wealthy does not ensure a good outcome. There are many wealthy, but clueless kids pursuing nonsense degrees in very prestigious schools that will never be able to survive on their own. I would rather learn a skill set that give me tools to blaze my own path without relying on anyone else. Wishing you and yours a very Happy Holiday Season and a Healthy and Prosperous New Year. I am feeling a bit hopeful. 🙂🙂🙂

    My parents brought us to the USA (legally - it was a difficult journey). We arrived on the Neptunia in the port of New York in 1953 and that was only the start of a long challenging journey up the food chain. However, my parents always stressed to us that this is the greatest country in the world with boundless opportunity. Seven decades later, I have continued that mantra with my own children and, now, with my 6 grandchildren. The one thing that always shocked my parents was that people born here often miss the opportunities and the fact that they were so fortunate to have them laid at their feet just because they were lucky enough to have been born here. People who scoff at this notion should realize that there are countless foreigners who would gladly give anything to trade places with them. I’m so sorry my father recognized his cherished adopted homeland was crumbling in his final years. He was very concerned what was to become of our family in the eroding environment. It gives me some comfort to imagine how happy he would be today witnessing the shifting tide that can right the ship that was driven so far off course. 🙏🙏🙏🙏

      @ Well, it doesn’t surprise me that you missed the whole point. It has nothing to do with Trump or his assembled court. It has everything to do with the majority in this country finally making their voices heard and giving our broken government a mandate to return to what we consider the norm and away from the out of control far left. If you study history, the most brutal regimes first divided their populous across various types (race, religion, culture, …) and then pitting them against each other to weaken them before they went in for the kill (total and inescapable control). My parents lived through that and made sure we understood and recognized it so we wouldn’t fall into that trap. I hope this helps you recognize what was happening and maybe help you to venture outside of your sphere and take in a bigger picture. I don’t wish to offend you, but I would like to wish you a Happy Holiday Season and a prosperous and healthy New Year. Best Wishes!

    I have a cousin who worked for a Texas congressman from the panhandle for many years, moved to the FDA, then FEMA, and is now retired. When Trump was elected the first time, I told him back in 2016, maybe we will finally get our Federal budget in order. He told me then, it will NEVER EVER happen because the way you have to vote for terrible things to get the small thing you want. He was responsible for writing legislation when he worked for the congressman. Let's hope Viveck becomes speaker and we change the way things are done voting one item at a time, or at least an 8 page limit with congressman's names next to the things they want. That would be a game changer. Elon needs to stay at Tesla. I would like to retire in the next 2-3 years.

    We need this in the medical field. There are so many government regulations, etc that make healthcare incredibly complicated/inefficient. It’s ripe for disruption.

    • @alanlight7740
      @alanlight7740 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Medical might need this more than any other field. Unfortunately, in order to disrupt an industry we need people who understand that industry - and medical is also the field which people who are not part of it are least likely to understand.
      Which is to say, we need people from within the medical field to push the sort of disruptions we need to fix things, and if there are such people they have unfortunately not come to prominence yet, and therefore have not come to the attention of those who can fund and support them in their efforts.
      _Possibly_ RFK Jr. can change that, as he is at least a rallying point for such people now.

    • @timwildauer5063
      @timwildauer5063 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @ I respectfully disagree. Most of the disfunction in healthcare isn’t the care itself. We almost always know exactly what is wrong with people and how to fix whatever problem it is they have. The problem is getting access to the care you need in a timely manner. There are an absurd number of hoops to jump through to get what you need. Someone I know was recently told they would have to wait two weeks for someone to call them to schedule an appointment, and that appointment would be some 2-3 months in the future. The difficulty part is that in the auto industry, if something gets messed up, someone goes without a car for a few weeks. In healthcare if you mess up, people die, and people rightfully get really angry when people die.
      It’s an incredibly complex issue, and there’s a lot of discussion to be had about whether it’s healthcare or sick care. If we want to prevent people from getting sick in the first place, that’s a very different issue, basically what RFK is going to work on. That will solve a lot of the healthcare system by just not getting sick in the first place, but it doesn’t solve everything.

    43:30 There's no good reason to not be using a Git-like approach to handling bills. Every piece of legislation become a repo, all proposals are tracked and who made the change. Votes on whether the bill is passed or not is clearly visible. Bills are just pull requests. This would allow for many small changes to be passed quickly. It would also give good reason for lawmakers to be in the office (or at least working remotely).

Maybe he's just too young to grasp the truth. It was not a meritocracy when Ivy League school admissions were regularly based on legacy. Or when whole swaths of the population were barred from leadership positions including virtually all women and all people of color including Indian and Chinese people. Even with overzealous DEI hiring and promotion society is WAY more meritocratic than it was 20, 30 or 40 years ago. It's not even close. A really great discussion and I e learned a lot. I believe in first principles, I’ve studied how Elon employs first principles and I’m attempting to deploy this practice in my work and daily life.
    I’m disappointed by the lack of first principles being employed in this discussion. From a first principle perspective, racial quotes were employed to address racial discrimination in hiring practices. Meritocracy by itself will not correct discrimination in hiring. Let’s have a first principle discussion on what is needed to ensure that all applicants have a fair, equitable and just opportunity to be hired. This must extend through career promotions at all levels. This would be a very interesting and challenging discussion,
    Along these lines. I’m a retired college professor with a career in which I was on countless search and screen committees. I watched my faculty colleagues choose white applicants constantly over equally qualified applicants with a different color or cultural background.
    Please, in the name of first principles, let’s have these discussions too.

    Sometimes I worry that we may create a dystopia.There have been some advances in technology that could help law enforcement agencies, but it could also be abused and violate the rights of people.I think that the majority of people have a vague understanding of the situation, but I don't think that most people are aware at just how far technologies have advanced.

    WHY does voting HAVE to entail members of the house or senators travelling to "the House" in this day and age. With modern technology this voting could be done from the members own office all over America. This will show who voted for what and enable multiple bills to be passed through the system more efficiently and cost the tax payers less monies. One could argue that this prevents discussions within party lines but again this can be done through the internet or on cell phones. America is not using modern technology to improve ways of doing business.

      The remaining problems are no more difficult than those they have already solved. Tesla has arrived at an architecture and training method that seems to only need scaling of data, compute, and model size. At this point, profitable robotaxi service at mass scale is far more likely than not.

    There is also a picture of unfairness, which I experienced: the standardized tests, which everyone hates for some reason or another, either because they don’t reward people with a less intellectual upbringing, etc. told me that I was brilliant: “Iowa basics,” 99%, PSAT, (telling me I was in the top three people in my graduating class of 140) etc: . But when I went out into the workplace and found out that politeness, punctuality, and not being a smart Alec, or abrasive, wee what was REALLY. valued? -It was quite shocking to me and it took years to overcome the feeling that I was “special” -long before the “everyone gets a trophy” era -because of a piece of paper.

    I love the idea of Azoria. It is cut from the cloth I was raised under. I will be keeping an eye out for it. I don’t typically invest in ETF funds because I dislike the overemphasis many of them focus on DEI. I have no issues with diversity as long as it is not forced. I witnessed that in my own long career and it may have checked off a box, but the observations were not optimal. My strongest manager in my 43 year career was a woman, but not because of DEI - she kicked butt when it counted (sometimes it was mine).

    Also think these guys miss the point that there are always thousands of people who qualify and are “most qualified for the job.” Come on, let’s be real. A lot of software engineers are hired to copy and paste code. In that case, where many candidates are best fit for the job, I don’t think it hurts to hire someone that can help make the team more interesting and bring fresh perspectives because diversity is lacking.

    I'd like to affirm a point on diversity in stating my position that the lack of societal support for educating a diverse public into industry progress and innovation has neglectfully left the American population generally unchallenged educationally and thereby unprepared for excellence. Can we fix and evenly distribute the system of education in excellence to bring the diversity of US talent into fruition?!

    I fully support a meritocracy environment. I have been blessed with top 10% ability and it serves me well. I also, however, have associates with fewer gifts through no fault of their own and have deep concerns about where they end up. Similarly where do any of us fall when superior A.I. bots are performing ALL the intellectual and physical tasks? These are the important issues to address, both for government and social policy.

    I do not think you have this quite right. (I am trying hard to be polite).
    What exactly do you mean by meritocracy? It sounds like you think that meritocracy means that should hire the best person.
    *What does "best" mean?*
    It is very rare where you have a choice of several people and one of them is obviously better than the others. Realistically, there's probably a bunch of people who would be equally good.
    Many Studies have been done and it turns out that the best way to solve a difficult problem is to get about a dozen people together who are as different from each other as possible. In this situation, you would actually do better hiring a person who is not a white male because that would help the group's diversity.

    Woke in its original meaning is not about forcing equality of outcomes. It was about equality of opportunity. It has been my observation that hiring decision can be subtly or not subtly influenced by differences in race or culture when there is little difference in the qualifications of the individuals involved. This situation exists for millions of hiring decisions each year. We all know that the opportunity to do well in a job depends on getting that job in the first place.
