This game is really kind of sad looking back. I mean, Georgia had been having a great year, then had this crushing loss mid-season, came back and beat the same team to make the CFP, then had a GREAT game against Oklahoma to reach the CFP Championship, then lost that game to a team that didn't even make its division champ. It's one of the few flaws of the CFP ranking system, where a team that didn't deserve to make the CFP makes it then wins. It's also unfair to teams like USC and UCF who actually won there divisions. I say teams that MADE their division championships but lost should be considered before teams like Alabama. So, in theory, after the 3 top teams had made it in, they should have considered the runners up, which would have been:
Wisconsin, Miami, TCU, and Aubern.
I mean, Alabama didn't make the SEC Championship Game! And, if they had no business being in Atlanta, they DEFINITELY had no business being in the CFP.
Sorry, that rant was rather long.
its just the playoff system is flawed. It really should be more than 4 teams. Also isn't the playoffs for the 4 best teams? Bama didn't deserve to be there but they were one of the 4 best teams.
The conference championship argument is not a good one. The 2018 ACC championship was Clemson vs a 5 loss Pitt team. So, by your argument, if Pitt wins their conference title they should get a playoff spot? 'Bama had a lot of injuries in 2017 and the committee said they factored that into their decision to give them the #4 spot. Obviously they looked like a different team in the playoffs with a healthy defense and eventually won it all, so it appears the committee got it right. If you didn't want UGA to play the best team possible that year to earn a title, then that's just sad.
@@marktastic86 Not at all. In my opinion, It should go as follows: Conference Champions, Conference Runner-Up, then other teams. I mean, Alabama didn't even MAKE its conference championship game. If they had made it and lost, well thats different. But the fact is is that they did not make it. They were literally picked over teams that had put in the work and effort, gotten rewarded by winning their conference championship, only to get snubbed. Im not saying Alabama wasnt one of the best teams. What Im saying is that they did not earn their spot in the CFP, therefore they did not deserve to be put ahead of other division winners.
Also, everybody knows Pitt would NEVER have beaten Clemson that year.
@@zumadude1879 Unranked Pitt beat Clemson two years prior with a similar record, but okay. 'Bama was #1 all year, and the choice was between them and a 2-loss OSU who'd gotten blown out by Iowa. Your criteria makes less sense than the committee's since their choice was vindicated by 'Bama winning the title. Also remember OSU made it to the playoffs without winning their division in 2016. It just shows that conference championships aren't a deciding factor for this playoff unless it's a tie-breaker between teams with similar records or SOS. There will never be a perfect system, but complaining about UGA having to play 'Bama when they ended up being the other top team in the country is lame. You sound like a reasonable guy, but that's just a strange position to take.

Yessir, there was like a total of 140 yards worth of penalties missed that would have helped us LOL
UGA scores the long TD to Hardman in the 3rd qtr and is up 20-7. The very next drive UGA intercepts Tua in 'Bama territory and most likely any points will seal their victory. Instead, Fromm throws a pick right back to 'Bama. Regulation also ended with a missed chip shot FG that gave UGA a chance to win in OT. As if that wasn't enough, UGA sacks Tua making it 2nd and 26 and giving 'Bama very little chance to convert and tie or win. You know the rest. The point being, there were so many chances for Georgia to put the game away and they choked. Blaming the refs is a cop-out.
