Wish I could like this comment more than once. There are 3 levels of Intro to Sleep Token, The first time you yourself experience them, then you get to tell friends about them and then get a text message a day or two later stating they can't stop listening and the last but still incredibly rewarding is seeing people's reaction during their first listen.
As much of a masterpiece as the new album is on its own, you won’t fully grasp the complexity unless you go back and listen to their earlier albums and EPs. I would recommend starting with “The Night Does Not Belong To God” off of the Sundowning album as your next listen. After that you can feel free to skip around the discography, but that is really the starting point of the Trilogy of albums and sets the tone for everything else.
Yeah I second that, though to be honest the best way imo is just going chronologically album by album, cause there's just so much there that I can't really decide which song to choose. TNDNBTG, The Offering, Levitate and Dark Signs are all in order and are so different, that I really had to process in my mind that it's all one band and same album.
@Jamieip I pretty much went backwards because I only discovered them a year ago and wish I had been there from the start because TMBTE would have been even more epic
Whilst their entire catalogue is worth checking out, I will say that I've been very intrigued to see music teachers reacting to the song Ascensionism from the latest album. It's such a unique song, so well crafted, so many details, so cleverly conceived and executed. I'm no music student or teacher myself, but that song I feel has great educational value!
The first lines of the album's opening track (Chokehold) are: When we were made, it was no accident We were tangled up like branches in a flood Those lines are repeated in bridge round here. Fun little call back
Great reaction. The Sleep Token rabbit hole is deep. 3 albums. Purely anonymous band. Lead singer, known as Vessel is the mastermind behind it all. He and II (2) the drummer. Each song is a token to the deity of sleep. Allowing healing and growth. I would love to see your reaction to either "Chokehold" or "Ascensionism", both from this latest album, Take ME Back To Eden.
I must add as well that during the multi-layered vocals right before the final primal scream breakdown at the end included sampling from another song, chokehold. The part where it mentions "it was no accident" and "we were tangled like branches in a flood". Imo it fit so well into the flow of this song, so im glad that it was included. 🤘 Delve deep my friend and Worship with us .
This is definitely my favorite band. People don’t realize how much is actually going on with little things like his tone, using his breathing for effect, inflection changes etc. It’s it always fun to get other peoples perspective on this band. A few have pointed thing out that I miss. I was happy that he caught things like the subtle changes in guitar and drums. I mean not really that subtle when you pay attention but easy to miss. I love how these guys do everything from jazzy to funk to pop then back to metal. Amazing band!!!!
The KEY CHANGES! I don't even notice them when I listen (if I'm not looking for it). I wasn't aware until I looked up the music... that impressed the hell out of me. Usually, artists lean into key changes and accentuate them... sleep token f'in slips them in under the radar... what impresses me so much is that they are this big loud glamorous sound... that somehow still maintains subtlety and thoughtfulness. I'm speechless. Just discovered this band about a week ago and my obsession is inhibiting my productivity at work lol
Good catch, when you mention the vocal layers at 11:03 mark. Your hearing the lyrics from Chockhold. When we were made It was no accident We were tangled up like branches in a flood
The lyrics are everything. The journey to return to Eden, "the glory of innocence". Being forced to trust the entity (either being an angel or demon, and not being sure which, or what defines one from the other) to guide him to his ultimate goal. And finally reaching it, only to realize that it isn't what it seemed; he is now trapped in his own hell of his own making, hence the change from "I will travel far beyond the path of reason", to "I HAVE traveled far beyond the path of reason", and fading out representing him not being able to escape. It's a beautiful story, open to many interpretations. Either The Summoning or Chokehold next before Ascensionism, just to ease you in. This band is stupid creative. No one puts this kind of effort into their music, and I'm all for it. I enjoyed your reaction, thank you for giving me someone to enjoy the song with.
YES. Worship! Editing this after finishing the video. Loved your appreciation for the sheer musical talent. I would recommend Blood Sport (from the room below) to showcase the vocalists ability. Would recommend The Summoning for a more full picture of their sound. I've been obsessed since The Summoning dropped this year, and it's been life changing.
Sleep Token is an incredible journey. If you want something from previous albums, I would say "Alkaline" and "Blood Sport." But if you are looking for something specific to this channel, I personally really love Granite and Aqua Regia. My understanding of the visuals is that it represents different gods/goddess. There is such a huge lore behind this band and the songs play a part of the storytelling. When you dive into their whole discography, and then go back and listen to this album, you hear little call backs. I hope you will be able to find time to sit and listen to this album start to finish because it will take you places. Great video and reaction!
I love watching other people, especially people that understand musical theory, experiencing Sleep Token for the first time 🖤 The drums are just incredible. The Take Me Back to Eden album is an absolute artistic masterpiece. To fully appreciate it though, you will want to go all the way back & listen to their discography.
Sleep token takes people on an epic musical journey. Vessel 1 and 2 are GENIUSES Especially Vessel with the vocals, guitar, bass and dang keyboard. Just listen to every single last Sleep Token song. Even songs i dont like as much are still brilliant and very few
The album is a journey told by the singer about coming to terms with loss and lost love. Really a story told throughout three albums, of which this is the third and final. Many of the lyrics reference earlier work, most explicitly in this track a callback to "Chokehold," which opens the album. Most of their videos are visualizers, so I recommend pulling up lyrics while you listen. The poeticism is high with this band. Enjoy your discovery!
He brings back vocal lines from the first song on the album, Chokehold, in the outtro of the last chorus before the heavy part. But yeah, you hear something new every time you listen, it seems.
One thing I love is the 2 half step gain in the base, this happens in last 3rd of the song. Totally rad. Definitely look into the Summing, The Love You Want and everything else they make
One of the best reactions out there, I can see how much you love music and it makes it so much more fun for your viewers. Some of the subtleties are multiple callbacks to prior songs/lyrics. Also check out their lore to understand their perspective - this is a very rich story combined with incredible talent. You might also like to search for “an offering from ii” (2, the drummer). Hypnosis is a stand-out for a drummer playthrough. Highly recommend doing a deeper dive into this extremely genre-fluid band. #worship Amazing drum playthrough - Hypnosis (an offering from ii) Blood sport (room below) - piano only and vessel singing. Ascensionism - similar to this song Aqua Regia - jazz inspired Granite - “sexy metal” lol Vore - extremely heavy/screaming with a melodic center It’s hard to pick a bad track.
This song/album/discography/band is a master class in genre blending at an epoch level, and I am living for it. By far, ii is my favorite drummer. Worship!
If you're heading down the Sleep Token rabbit hole, I'm here for it. I've been dying to hear from more musicians and vocal coaches about what they're picking up. I think The Summoning or Ascensionism are good options for your next listen. Can't wait to hear more of your thoughts!
You are so legit my good man...loved how you didn't pause constantly and inundate us with personal anecdotes or blather...seriously enjoyed how you took time to soak in parts of the song and loved your comments on everything...fresh subscriber right here SOOOO looking forward to more thank yoy
This is the first reaction I have seen of yours and it was great! Gonna check out more! Sleep Token are the best band I have ever come across and the recent album is definitely my AOTY! You should go down the rabbit hole now. They’re genre bending and use elements of everything from rock, metal, RnB, trap, hip hop, gospel, and more. Even if you don’t like one song don’t write them off as every song is different and as you can see from this one they switch up completely through the songs, also don’t be thrown off by some of them being 7-8 minutes long either as it goes by far too quickly. You should start at the beginning and work your way through as they tell a story and have call backs to a lot of them. The band are anonymous, I and others know who they are but won’t reveal out of respect to the band and fans but the singer goes by the moniker Vessel, drummer, who is a beast is II, bassist III and guitarist IV. From London UK. As far as their discography goes they brought out two EPs called One and Two, then 2 singles called Jaws and The Way That You Were, then the three albums Sundowning, The Place Will Become Your Tomb, then TMBTE (Take Me Back To Eden). They’ve done five covers that I’m aware of. One being Hey Ya by OutKast, I Wanna Dance With Somebody by Whitney Houston, Is It Really You? By Loathe and When The Party’s Over by Billie Eilish, Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen. His Vocal range I believe is B ♭2 to F#5 and he has a wonderful chest voice, head voice and scream. I have never hyper fixated on a band like I have with these! Loved the react and Will subscribe and hopefully see many more. 🖤 The trilogy = Seduction. Destruction. Liberation.
The layered vocals towards the end of the song (before the screaming) are actually parts from the first song on the album, Chokehold. It's super worth it to listen to the album in its entirety.
when you said you're in Abbotsford that got my attention! Fellow British Columbian here. I'm glad you enjoyed Sleep Token, they're easily my favourite band right now. The whole album is worth checking out. Love your analysis too!
The synth animal calls in the background were awesome. Stunning visuals. Is this considered an official music video, because it looks more like a visualizer to me?
This was my reaction the first time hearing this song. I bought their vinyl after hearing the first 4 songs on TH-cam and holy damn was I blown away by this one.
You basically jumped to the second to last song of Sleep Token. I highly suggest you go and start at the very beginning. This song itself has a call back to another song and it hits even better.
Their magnum opus, no question about it. That said, you really need to start with their first LP and work your way up to this newest album. I’d strap in with your favorite psychedelic and some good friends and enjoy the ride 😅
The next please The Summoning. This band is something I never hear in my entire life, just I cant stop listening, is a roller-coaster and now I only say Worship🖤
The layered vocals are from their song Chokehold and there's also nods to previous songs as well Sleep Token is masterful at pulling motifs and lyrical connections from their other work and this album is like. In a way? A love letter to the rest of their work up to this point. You're gonna realize quick how cool and clever they are but you won't realize its sheer depth until you give the whole discography a listen
Mystery band. Which I appreciate. Recommend Ascensionism. Mix of light, etheral piano and then goes metal with some great guitar work. Oh, I also appreciate being able to understand the lyrics.
Please check out their other songs like Vore, The Summoning, Chokehold and Granite just to name a few. But given that Sleep Token are so diverse in their compositions it really is worth diving deep in their rabbit hole and really enjoying digging deep in their talent and and musicianship.
@@TempleMusicAcademy so excited! :D. Loved this video too by the way. Love watching people being amazed and really enjoying this great band and your analysis is very good too. :)
Holy i didn't realise how early i was to the video, great reaction. Of all of the songs on the TMBTE album I think chokehold and vore are the favourites I hope you get around to some of the other songs on the album
Their strength is composition, imo. People can have their own opinion on their aesthetic...anyway, I love this track so much, the emotion is incredible.
The summoning for sure and ascensionism are good for reacting to.. they give you are good idea of where other songs may take you. I think some folks get some of their songs out of context sometimes. Vessels voice just fits into every genre and he exploits it so well.. he makes music artistic again
You've gotta start their music journey from the beginning! I agree with listening to The Night Does Not Belong to God next because that really does set the tone for the rest of the albums and then when you listen to Euclid, you will appreciate it 100x more if you've already heard TNDNBTG.🖤 worship
i've been listening to this song ENDLESSLY for three months since the release. i am still finding new things from a music theory perspective and just in general every time I listen to this song. I suggest maybe listening to Chokehold off this album next? Its lyrics are layered in the end of this song. To get the full understanding of the visuals, there is a lot of lore... way too much for a TH-cam comment, haha! I suggest listening to Sundowning and TPWBYT to get a much fuller context of the songs on TMBTE. Those albums are less theatrically fleshed out, but still very enjoyable, beautiful, and important to the whole context of this song.
The birds and the tiger growl, plus other animals in the background are to give you the impression of being in the garden of Eden. The figure in the video is holding an apple too. I’ve seen somewhere that the angel depicted is the person who kicked Adam and Eve out of Eden. I don’t know enough about the details in the story myself to say for certain.
Saw you really enjoyed this one, my personal favorite is "The Summoning" also by SLEEP TOKEN the song has some incredible usage of timing and breaks!!! I'd love to hear your take on it
A very nice reaction, I loved it! I look forward to watching you react to more Sleep Token and hearing your point of view on things. Another very good reaction to Take Me Back to Eden is from oldstonerun, he points out a lot of things, some of which I didn't even notice myself and I've listened to the song now more than 100 times probably. 😅 ( th-cam.com/video/ltevO1RbFGY/w-d-xo.html ) I feel I'm constantly finding new things each time I listen to their songs. As far as recommendations go, all of it. 😂 Definitely The Apparition, Ascensionism, The Summoning, Hypnosis, The Offering, Atlantic, Higher, Alkaline, Vore... and the list goes on...gosh, so many.😅
hello, im not sure if you noticed but at the first take me back to eden when the music kicks in, its sounds a bit lite, almost like its hopeful in going back, but then in the second half the music gets a bit heavier, i believe this is the point where he knows he cant go back to the paradise he once had.
Ascensionism is your next track but anything from their discography is fire. The vocalist play all instruments on the album apart from drums. Vessel and vessel 2(drums) and for live stuff 3 on bass and 4 on guitars. The production of this band is off the chain. Btw their anonymous all wear masks. There's a lot of lore to go with it. Take me back is also the title of the latest album which in turn is the last part of a trilogy with sundowing and This place will become your tomb. Loads more to come. Just to let you know, I'm 63. This isn't music for kids.
The problem with starting with this song is you miss the context of the story of their entire journey. There's actually a callback to another song on the album within this song. The whole album calls back to their entire discography. I would give anything to go back and hear Sleep Token from the beginning for the first time.
THE best band to come out since Jinjer. This is by far the best album I've heard in I don't know how long. EVERY song is fire. In fact, I have everything they have done and their catalog is just insanely great.
My favourite hobby: Watching ppl get introduced to Sleep Token.. Worship! 🙏🏼
Exactly what I have been doing for quite some time lol

As a sleep token fan, I, too, frequently watch people reacting to sleep token
Many layered vocals in production but the band brings 3 more vocalists on tour so they can mimic those layers live. Amazing
And they're amazing as well
You and the Charismatic Voice are the only people to pick up on that half step up with the guitar. It gives me chills everytime I hear it

One thing to discover again on 2nd listen is that the chorus is sung 3 times but it occurs in 3 different “genres” of music within one song. 😉

Get ready for the Sleep Token army to show up strong if you keep reacting to this album in particular.
Dude. I’m so into this band and I don’t even know why. Haha
Lyrically, he mentions hes about to bite back in anger in the third section before the chorus. He forshadows the brutal ending.
Ascensionism, the summoning, Blood sport. Atlantic :)
"Welcome to the cult" guy here to say... Welcome to the cult! Worship.
Love your stink face, it earned you a subbie!
Saw you really enjoyed this one, my personal favorite is "The Summoning" also by SLEEP TOKEN the song has some incredible usage of timing and breaks!!! I'd love to hear your take on it
You would love The Summoning by them
A very nice reaction, I loved it! 😂 Definitely The Apparition, Ascensionism, The Summoning, Hypnosis, The Offering, Atlantic, Higher, Alkaline, Vore... and the list goes on...gosh, so many.😅
I have a feeling you'd like Aqua Regia from the same album. lil bit of jazz influences usually hits the spot for us musicians, for some reason, hehe.
I know this is 7 months old, but if you need a recommendation for the next song by Sleep Token, do Euclid and be prepared to bawl your eyes out.
hello, im not sure if you noticed but at the first take me back to eden when the music kicks in, its sounds a bit lite, almost like its hopeful in going back, but then in the second half the music gets a bit heavier, i believe this is the point where he knows he cant go back to the paradise he once had.
Ascensionism would be my pick
Please listen to Ascentionism next. Great reaction!!!
Aqua Regia, Ascencionism, The Summoning
Where did you get that shirt though? I want one.
Sacred moments
worship. Welcome to the rabbit hole. My only advice. Start from the One and Two EPS and work straight through.
Just pick one. Sleep Token doesn't make bad songs. I have my favorites but it's a fact. They're all good.
*stankface engaged*
Can't believe ya missed the key change
The problem with starting with this song is you miss the context of the story of their entire journey. There's actually a callback to another song on the album within this song. The whole album calls back to their entire discography. I would give anything to go back and hear Sleep Token from the beginning for the first time.
please react to ascentionism by sleep token aswell
Please fo Granite, Aqua Regia and The Summoning
THE best band to come out since Jinjer. This is by far the best album I've heard in I don't know how long. EVERY song is fire. In fact, I have everything they have done and their catalog is just insanely great.
A lot of stuff that's missed in an homage to the other songs in the album
The vocalist, Vessel, does everything minus the drums. He writes the lyrics, does the vocals, plays all the instruments and produces.
