How did you manage to secure water on your homestead, or what are some of your plans to get water security on your land? I would love to hear from you🌻

Every time I watch one of your videos on your Tamakoa I'm blown away with just how green and beautiful it looks in the background. You have found a stunning place to build your new home. ❤️

Yeah, we really have and I must say I am so incredibly grateful for this beautiful land! When I did my research before buying this land I used an incredible web app created by Elsenberg and the Western Cape Government called Farm Mapper. This app has absolutely everything about the land mapped out. Everything from underground water to frost, wind and rain. It is there that I saw our very specific area gets the same mean annual rainfall as CPT which one of the big reasons we went for it. You should check out that web app if you haven't yet, it's really awesome! 🌻

Thank you and yes, it is going to be a massive relief once it is all connected and running, that's for sure 🌻

So interesting about the elevation, distance and pipe thickness .
Amazing to have the stream running through the property.

Yeah, it really is and it's something I had no clue about until talking to some people at our local Agri shops. I just love how friendly everyone is out here. I must say that the stream is a really incredible addition to the land and at the moment it is very overgrown but can be turned into something amazing with some cleaning up 🌻

Justin Rhodes has a very nice water collection setup where he also extracts water from a mountain stream and using it to fill his animals troughs. Might be worth a watch in your case, where you can take some similar ideas and possibly implement them.
The Karoo also gets cold in winter, so just bear in mind the water freezing in the pipes if they are laying above ground.

Ah, thanks so much for suggesting this! I love watching Justin Rhodes and it was so sad seeing how hard that hurricane hit them. I had no clue about their gravity fed water system and already looked it up and am looking forward to watching it (probably tonight 😂).
Also a really good point on the cold! We also get up to 50 degrees in summer so for now I will lay the pipes on top but the an would be to get them underground to prolong the lifespan of the water pipes and prevent freezing.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts with me 🌻

Hello Craig, some really great advice again. I would only add that you should always try keeping up to date with anything happening in the area affecting you. We for instance are on a 2,5km stretch of dirt road and have been here since the eighties. About ten years ago a large chicken farm bought the biggest holding at the end of our road and everything has changed since then. Our local municipality okayed their application without the proper impact studies and they have badly affected our ground water levels and damage the road with trucks that are way heavier than our road can handle. It has been a huge battle but we at least have been able to get them to do more road maintenance, as for the water, we had to get a connection to municipal water, at a very high cost.

Urgh, this sucks SOOOOOO bad and I am so sorry to hear this! It is also exactly the reason why I am going to eventually put up a 120 000L reservoir and use winter rains to fill that. I don't want to ever become reliant on a single water source as that could, at any point, dry up, break or get complicated. Having a back, or a few backup options, really go a long way in water security, which is becoming increasingly important.
I am so sorry you guys had to go through this 😞

Nice hat. I have a similar problem, I wear a 6 and 7/8 hat. It’s difficult to find one that doesn’t come down over my eyes.
I hear you about neighbors. My home is on the edge of a small town with city water and I have the most wonderful neighbors in the world. However my timber land is in the middle of nowhere and I have awful neighbors (What’s mine is mine and what’s yours is mine too) we’ve been in court 8 times with them and won every case including a huge settlement on a false arrest of one of my lease hunters. What a pain!
Love your technical videos. You never know when information will come in handy.

Yeah, it was a great find 😂 I always find those wide brim hats just end up sagging and never cover your next so I end up getting so burnt! My head also can't breathe as well as in this woven hat but let's see how long it lasts, lol.
That's an absolutely terrible experience with your neighbours, I'm so sorry to hear it 😔 I absolutely despise people like that and it sucks that you buy land to get away from it all just to find more people like that. I really hope they get off your back and you get to enjoy your land without them trying to ruin what's yours 💚
