I've had my 350X since 2003 and I LOVE it. They are very capable machines. The first thing you have to do is to not try to ride it like a quad. It takes a different mind set. When you're going downhill, go slow until you get more comfortable on it. For turning, remember that quads steer with the front ends while three wheelers steer with the rear end. I hope to see a lot more videos with the 350X in them.

I also own one, this is correct thinking, rear steer. You need less rear tire and youre corner entry speed should be so you can throttle out to help it rotate.

    •  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

At slow speeds, they steer with the front wheel, once you get going however or are racing through a hairpin, then it’s all about spinning the back wheels out and countering by steering to drift the bike sideways through turns.
It’s kinda like driving todays drift cars if that makes sense at speed.

I was going to chime in about using the rear wheels to turn, but y'all beat me to it. I can't imagine trying to turn just relying on the front wheel. With a slight lean into the turn, my 86' 250R would bring the rear around as fast as I needed it to.

I'd get some less aggressive tires for the rear, so the rear end slides easier. Look like it's in good shape though!

Love it!! I’m 40 years young, I grew up on Honda ATC’s. First one being an ‘84 200X when I was 11. Down hills will always be sketchy, keep your weight back some on the downhills and always be mindful of the rear axle..clipping a tree is no fun..and running over a rock or root will buck you off faster than you can say -you done messed up A- Aron! Most of your turning is done with body weight movement and throttle…as you will come to learn. Great video, love the 350X! A trike will always be a force to be reckoned with, respect them and have fun. 💪🏼💪🏼

People that say that ATCs are death traps just haven't gotten enough seat time to adjust to them. As has been mentioned, there is a lot of body english required when riding and in most cased you just can't expect to be running trails as fast you can with ATVs. If you're always driving smart on an ATC its really no more dangerous than an ATV. Just don't be dumb lol! Awesome grab though, 350x's run for crazy prices these days!

They are, but only certain models. Not having suspension made them dangerous. The problem is most 3 wheelers lack rear suspension, and some have no front or rear suspension. The difference in riding a 3 wheeler less than 250cc and riding a 250cc or above with suspension, is like night and day. Most 3 wheelers under 250cc have no suspension at all, but in the mid 80s Honda started putting front suspension on some 200cc models, and some 250cc models, and put rear suspension on their 250r and 350x models. So yes, 3 wheelers are dangerous, but mainly just the ones that lack rear suspension and the ones that have no suspension at all. Some of those 3 wheelers with no suspension at all will roll over on flat ground if you move around too much. The ones with no rear suspension you can lean to either side and bring the back wheel off the ground without even trying. Rear and front suspension made them a lot safer.

  •  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

A lot of what you need to know to ride this trike has already been mentioned. But, if you want to have some real fun with that bike when riding a track or decent/fast trails (not super muddy/bumpy) put a pair of flat track tires on the back (look like rear riding lawnmower tires) and some wheel spacers. It will be way more stable being lower and wider. Your top end speed will suffer drastically but your bottom end will improve which is what you want for track racing. That’s without changing sprockets of course.
ps. To go down hills quick, put all your weight on the pegs while leaning back slightly and your butt just hovering over the seat. That way you can balance the bike left to right with your weight on the corresponding foot peg and steer as needed.
    Have a blast.

My dad has a 1986 honda 250r and the biggest thing when I ride it is remembering that I'm not on a dirtbike because you only see the one wheel in front of you so you forget how wide it is and end up clipping stuff with the rear tires.

Yep. It’s really a bummer that the 3 wheelers got the reputation they did. EVERY type of recreational vehicle has the potential to be dangerous. I think it’s the fact that you have to be a bit more aggressive as a rider on a trike, and the fact they made small models for kids, is why so many people did get hurt.

I still have mine after over 20 years and I still LOVE it! As others have said, different mind set when turning; gas it and let the rear wheels spin and slide around the corner. It is very much like drifting... They have torque up the ying yang and will spin even the knobbiest of tires at the flick of your thumb. The biggest hurdle to overcome is the urge to put your foot down to keep from tipping over; that's when people get hurt, when that fat back tire rolls up over their leg.

I grew up riding 3 wheelers 1984 Honda 250R the last of the air cooled 250r's. I'm 55 now and still riding quads. That said, the deal with steep down hills is that you need to REALLY keep your weight back. Stand up, get back as far as possible, and ride that rear brake down. If you get your weight forward at all your going over for sure, with the only unknown being to the left or right side. Steep up hills aren't nearly as sketchy, just have to be aware of the light ft end. As far as running trails at speed, someone else mentioned it and is spot on in that you steer with the rear. More precisely, you steer with the throttle. The front end is merely a pivot point. Similar to how you use your inside ft wheel on your quad as a pivot point to set up a power slide. I think you will find if you stand, really lock your feet into the pegs and think of that ft end as simply a pivot point. You will be able to use your legs and throttle and will in no time be shredding trail. The hardest thing about 3 wheelers in todays trails is the 4 wheel ruts. You will always need to find a different line to take. I still ride sport quads/aggressive trail and know for sure I can get through a trail as fast if not faster on sport 3 wheeler. As long as it's not a 4x4 trail, the front end is so light you can just hop over most obstacles. I've watched you and your crew run trails, spend a little time on it and I bet you'll be rippin!

PRO TIP #1- Don’t ride it without breaks!! Bro that brings back so many memories!! When I was like 11 thur 14 years old I had a Honda 110 3 wheeler and had so much fun on it! Yes I wrecked It a few times of course BUT I got right back on and would ride again!! The breaks finally went out and I was like I can still ride this in low gears( if you don’t know the 110s had High & Low gears)! Behind my house was trails we had made growing up and a hill that you had to go down to get to those trails, Well I started going down hill and it was going kinda fast😂 I had forgot I had it in high gears! I switched down cause I thought I was in 2nd or 3rd low gear and I was in 1st high gear! As soon as I switch down a gear it goes to Neutral😂 I started flying down the hill and didn’t get to jump off in time and had a lower tree branch hit me right in the chest area and slung me off the back on to the ground! Knocked the breathe out of me and busted my nose! By far the worst wreck ever on the 110 3 wheeler! But I have a lot of fun times on it as well! And yes I rode it again AFTER I got the breaks fixed tho!!

I know that this is an older video and you probably don't have it anymore, I had an 86 model that a guy drove off in a lake Hydra lock it literally broke the cam in half invent the valves I bought it in 1986 for $500 with a blown top end. My dad was an engineer for General Motors built a lot of race engines on the side at our house when I was a kid, he pulled the head off send it off to power roll had it port and Polished with their big cam a set of stainless steel valves that were actually out of a Suzuki GS 1100 cut down to fit the head. Change the carburetor to a flat slide street bike carburetor that we had laying around used power rolls header pipe which was actually pretty fat during its time good combination I think we went up 6th in the rear sprocket down one in the front running it on cam 2 fuel. I was drag racing a lot down here in Florida in the sand dunes on the weekends killing everything even Suzuki Quadzilla 500 unless it was modified. I remember when the Banshees first came out I was destroying them all day long. I forgot to mention I was running paddle tires on the rear. My personal advice after owning several of these 350X first thing I would do is get rid of those tires on the back believe it or not a stock set of 250R rear tires in front tire would be your best bet, depending on your size and weight play with the gear ratio that bike has a lot of torque but is geared for more top end has a 6-speed transmission if you go up a little bigger in the back sprocket or even just drop the front one tooth you will see a huge difference. Forgot to tell you I cannot lie the Kawasaki kxt 250 Tecate was probably the fastest three wheeler bone stock that I think I've ever raced they were faster than the 250R by far right off the showroom floor

One more thing I forgot to add to this comment as we never touch the piston it was not damaged so we left the stock piston and bore the head did get shaved down to build a little bit more compression, I remember when we were done with that engine it revved and sound like a CRF450R the throttle response was incredible

He let me ride it whenever i wanted, and i tell you what, after getting my ass handed to me countless times trying to tame it over the years, and being able to ride a three wheeler quite well, i feel so much more safe on a dirtbike or a quad, and feel like i can really ride them alot better.. But when i sit back down on any 3 wheeler.. "Danger Zone" plays in my head. Shits no joke, a 3 wheeler will really build riding ability. Once you learn to throw one of those around a bit, everything else seems easier.. Well, less deadly anyway... That sure is a clean old girl. Very nice. Good times

The key to riding is three wheeler is that your body does not stay as stationary as it does on a four wheeler. When you’re going into a turn, your body should be leaning to the inside of the turn, while you push your weight on the outer foot peg, and this will help the rear end come around a lot faster.

Also idle sounds a little high and going down hill just put your weight to the back and just barely tap the back brakes and you should be good. And lean with it going around the corners. Got to throw your weight with it when turning under speeds. Hope this helps you out.

Turning on a atc is way different than a four wheeler, most of the steering actually comes from the difference of traction on the rear wheels, to steer you have to press on the outer peg to push your weight onto the outer wheel, wilst leaning on the inside to avoid a rollover, for downhill, you have to choose a safe line to not flip, and for uphill, very easy, lean forward.

They can be a bit tricky to ride on trails that are rutted up from 4 wheelers. Put your front wheel in the ruts and don't use your front brake as your primary brake. Shifting your weight side to side on the seat in corners helps keep the front tire planted. Definitely do not over inflate your front tire. The 200x and 350x are actually more stable than alot of newer 4 wheelers if the suspension isn't clapped out and is set up properly. I noticed that your front forks have way to much air in them. They should have 0-10psi max in them. For moderately bumpy trail riding I would not run more than 3psi in them. For really bumpy trails run 0PSI in them. 2-4 psi is a good overall air pressure for every day riding.

Where you riding at in PA? I’d love to do a collab ride sometime if your down. I’ve been riding three wheelers since I was 4 and it’s 30 years or 3 decades this year that I’ve been riding them. I’ve owned 4 350x’s and they are the best 4 stroke besides the 86-87 ATC200x which is a better trike just a little underpowered. I have both at the moment and have a TH-cam channel dedicated to three wheelers specifically, ATC REVOLUTION, you may or may not have seen my channels but I can ride anything with wheels, raced AMA 450cc ATV MX for a few years on a Can Am 450 XMx in the past and grew up ripping the PA strip mines and coal hills so I have the experience if you want to learn. My dad put me on 3 wheels first and told me if I can master my 79’ ATC110 at 4 then I can ride ANYTHING and he was pretty much correct. You learn things on three wheelers you just don’t get from anything else and you are right about them making you a better rider all around and even dirt bike things may come more natural after learning three wheels. I take riding more serious then your average person and put in almost all of my free time in life riding three wheelers, quads, and dirtbikes as much as possible. My second channel is :

New square gripping tires sure don't help when you're just trying to get a feel for things I found out the hard way the ones I rode before I kind of counted on a little slippage.

on down hills put front tire in groove and then straddle groove with rear tires, also stand up and lean to absorb shock when one of the rear tires goes over a rock otherwise it could flip. also use more rear brakes especially when turning downhill cause front brake makes it want to roll worse.

Also, protip for riding downhill on a 3 wheeler. Put that front wheel in one of the ruts and just ride it through. It offers a bit more stability in the front with it being in that groove. If you put the front wheel in the middle and the rears in the grooves, it wont turn worth a flip... YOU will flip... Also, you can really use a front brake more than a quad, but the downside to that is it could also slide through a turn.. So, dont rely too much on the front brake on dirt, but on solid ground, it really can be relied on without the danger of doing an endo like a quad would, given the front brake is not powerful enough to flip you over unless you you know, lean forward like a doof or some shit. You'll figure it out pretty quick. 3 wheelers are fuin, but not good for trail riding. More for just hauling ass in a straight line or wide corners. sharp turns require ALOT of counter lean and you have to slow down far more than you would a quad

Briefly, bought 85 mint 200x in 89. Made 15 yrs Pismo,1 Oregon sand dunes, almost weekly West point (or Ione clay pits) for 20 years...Later learned that if too steep, push bike over ledge and walk down, rarely needed to but I knew when....

It’s actually great on trails and super fast as long as you really know what you’re doing. I raced them so could just be an experience thing.

The best way to ride hills is to Try to go straight up and straight down it will freak you out when you go up a steep hill sideways

  •  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

pss. The tires you have showing on the video look similar or are spider trac tires which are super aggressive and increases the height/stability. They are perfect for snow and mud but makes it much harder to turn/spin the ass around on dirt, grass, trails etc.

I love three wheelers I have learned to ride one you always wanna stay on the back of the seat, going down the hill and never stand up on a three wheeler it is super dangerous and when you go uphill, get to the middle of the sea or the front

You don't steer them with the handle bars. You steer with the throttle and brake. Get your ass off the seat and get low, push it through the corner with the throttle. It slows you down on a four wheeler doing that. On a three wheeler it Rockets you through the corner.

Yup, when I grew up, my first and only atc was an 85 250es, which i Iearnt how to ride before getting into quads, i then got an 86 klf 300 and one of the first things I did was drive it into a wall, trying to ride it the same way, i still had the klf until last year, sold it to a family friend, the atc died a few years back, the drive shaft bearing collapsed and fell into the diff, that was the end of that!

  • @nseric1233

You need different rear tires asap.
You have to drift a 3 wheeler to corner without tipping and your tires arent good for drifting at all. Get some 20 inch razors or something like them, they drift a 100 times better than bear claws.
I was always a 4 wheeler guy but had a couple race quads and tried a few different tires, the good mud tires like bearclaws got me through more mud holes but cornered badly as they dont like to go sideways like the razors or holeshots do. Maxxis all tracs were a good in between tire that still drifted well.

Awesome video man some advice would be on these it's all about the way you transfer your body weight it seems to be easier to kinda hover over the seat so you can move with the machine they do get tipsy but just compensate with your body weight
