- Midsummer, or Juhannus in Finnish, is one of the most important festivals in Finland celebrating the season of summer and sunlight. This video is from the last day of our three day celebrations. As you saw in the previous videos, we celebrate the midsummer with family, food and games. On the last day, we came to Ahvenisto lakeside where Raimo had booked a family sauna for us. So the day was about swimming in the cold lake and going back into a hot sauna... and repeating it all again. We also had some traditional Finnish barbeque of sausages by the lakeside which reminded me of all my childhood summers. In this video, you'll also see Annika getting a surprise gift - a pink bicycle. Later we went to the athletics track where we did some physical exercises and introduced Annika to running, jumping etc.
Ever since starting up our family in India, it has been my dream to take my husband Vinod and our daughter Annika to celebrate the midsummer and experience the summer in Finland. So this was a dream come true for all of us :)

Annika isn’t growing up in Finland though, we’re here temporarily. But it is a huge blessing that we get to spend a longer time here now, as when we are in India she is missing her Finnish roots and family and now she gets to learn and experience it much better. 😊

In June there are usually no fresh blueberries in the forests, the season only starts in July. The pie was made from frozen blueberries that were picked last year! 😊 some coldest parts of lapland (northernmost Finland) have already received the first snow, in southern Finland where our home is the first snow can come any time in Oct-Dec. Usually later, but last year the first snow already came in October!

Annika speaks Hindi really well for her age and spoke it much better than Finnish before we came to Finland this summer. 😊

I ABSOLUTELY LOVED the scene of Vinod and Annika in the lake. Proper father and daughter time prior to Vinod heading back to India for work. These memories of you guys in the Alpine lands will last forever. UTTERLY DELIGHTFUL ❤ Johanna..... I am trying to set up some meditations and courses to help people who are going to India for the first time. A service to help them aim to successfully navigate their way around India as many worry about stuff like stomach issues, pollution, scams, navigating the culture etc. I want to ask.... Do you think this is a good idea? I would love to know this from your point of view given your experiences dear. Thank you so much in advance.

Well I dont know how meditations for people going to india for the first time (if i understood correctly?) would work, but I think resources to navigate that are always a good idea especially if you have any unique or fresh perspective on that 😊

That shot was from another day when we visited there at 11am. But this is midsummer so there would be plenty enough of light at 11pm as in the midsummer the sun doesnt set. The sky wouldnt be blue and the sun wouldnt be too high though 😊
