Ohio State clearly has the talent to win the natty. But will Day and the coaching staff be able to maximize that talent? That's the question.

@thomaskearns193 i don't think Kelly has showed us anything to make me believe he was a good hire. He was was washed up HC that hasn't had success in many years. Plus remember Urban got into trouble after he started hiring his friends instead of best available.
I don't think the evidence is there that OSU is this super talented team. Some super star players for sure. But the oline, dline, LBs, TEs, and even corners are not the best units in the country or even the BIG.
They are good but this is not the generational talent laden team we were sold on
I think your description of Dylan Sampson will change by the time you preview the game. He’s definitely more “squirm” than “bowing ball”.
I hate to say it, but if I wasn't a diehard Ohio State fan I would take the 7.5 and Tennessee all day.

Tennessee was and is not an air raid team. We have always run more than passed under JH. The passes were just expensive.
Yeah, not a true Mike Leach type air raid for sure. It’s the Art Briles wide splits with vertical shots system. In general though, a Texas based spread system that a lot of people are going to confuse with air raid because of the similarities.

FACT: Trey Henderson as a Receiver out of backfield is a MATCHUP NIGHTMARE for Opposing Defenses - but I know that putting stress on Opponents Defense is not something Day & Kelly want to do‼️🙄
I do know this that if OSU doesn't utilize their talent on the perimeter and score at least 20 to 28 points the defense will be put in an untenable position again
Doug is much too harsh about Will Howard. I don't disagree that the picks against TTUN were brutal, but he has been "almost elite" this season. Look at the stats. He is on par with Dillon Gabriel
Fair point. But it would go further if he were better than 1-2 in his big games this year. Penn State and Michigan were easily his worst... Chance to redeem himself, but it looks closer to being a reality that he's not a pressure QB than an opinion. You could argue that he's 0-3 if you say he didn't clutch win the Oregon game. Personally I think he checked the box in that game
No one other than Doug and some national media has been hard enough on Will Howard or Ryan Day for choosing Will Howard. He’s mid at best and always folds in big games. He has a career filled with those moments.
He's never been able to throw the ball downfield that's why he would have been relegated to a backup this season at Kansas State if you look at his statistics is average passes 8 yd basically a hand off.
It all starts with the COACHING STAFF. Give the players the GAMEPLAN and all of the other knowledge tools they need to WIN THE DAMN GAMES. THAT is where Ryan Day and some of his assistants are FAILING.
On par? Stats against Akron, ect don’t count
OSU right now has a middling at best OL. Starting with the loss of Simmons but especially since the loss of McLaughlin. In the 4 games after Oregon vs Bowl bound teams we have run for 3.4 YPC, 108 yards per game and only 2 rushing TDs. They still pass protect at a reasonable rate, but we are effectively a 1 dimensional offense with a good but not great QB.
IN those same 4 games Howard has completed 71% of his passes which is great, but only for slightly less than 195 yards per game with 8TDs but 5 INTs plus a lost fumble. IE not spectacular.
Overall in those 4 games we have averaged just 22 points per game which includes PR TD vs Indiana, so the offense has averaged just 20.5/game. Also only 302.75 yards per game and only 5.38 yards per play with 6 TO's and 3 Missed FGs.
Those are not a recipe for beating a team with a good defense. Hopefully any OL shuffling will improve these totals, but until proven, i fear we may be getting ready for Mizzou 2.0
Get the point. Not as explosive lately. That said, they have faced elite D's along the way. Beyond Oregon, there are no teams crushing it against good defenses. UGA and UT prove the point.
Need to run better no doubt. May need to pass more and sprinkle in the run. That's what UGA did to beat Tenn.
I personally don't see a Mizzou game. That was a weird moment including playing the 3rd string qb.

It all comes down to POOR BLOCKING TECHNIQUES by the offensive linemen that increase the chances of suffering lower leg injuries. Once again, POOR COACHING.

With Kelly calling the offense, we almost always go run-run-pass-punt and with Will Howard making ill advised throws in big games, I have to imagine Tennessee seals the win. Given Tennessee is far less predictable, has better talent and depth in the trenches, and OSU underperforms in the Shoe while having everything to gain and Day to lose, it’s got Tennessee getting the W all over it.

There's NO REASON to believe that we're NOT going to see a repeat of last year, when Ohio State lost to Michigan and played a VERY uninspired Cotton Bowl game against a less-than-great Missouri team, losing 14-3.

Can people move on from the Michigan game already, it’s happened, get over it. Yall are letting one game cloud the entire body of work for a team all season. Did Georgia not almost lose bama and Texas? Did Tennessee not lose to Arkansas? Did smu not lose to byu or Clemson lose to sc and Louisville? ND to NIU? And Georgia Oregon Texas and Penn st have had close calls all year. This is including Tennessee who had close games with LSU and Florida. Every team had its bumps but we all agreed was the problem was offensive game planning. They have shown the capabilities of being elite on offense but people are letting one dumb gameplan think they’re too dumb to play smart ball offensively. Defensively they’re were amazing all year besides one game. Like we legitimately held Michigan to 3 points. Every other point was gotten by the offense. This is the best defense in the country, it’s going to be a night game, it’s at home, it’s 3 weeks that Ryan day and chip Kelly AND Jim Knowles get to game planning, and we just gonna think it’s not going to play a big part? The offense has the firepower to expose Tennessee secondary but nobody can see it cuz yall to wrapped up on one game
