    "Kicks" was written by husband and wife songwriting team of Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil, who wrote the song to try to motivate Gerry Goffin (Carole King's husband and songwriting partner - "Up On the Roof', "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow") to get off the drugs that were affecting his career and his marriage. Mann and Weil offered the song to Eric Burton and the Animals, who refused; they then offered the song to the Raiders, who took it to the Top Ten in the US and No. 1 in Canada.....thank you for coming to my TED talk....

    I'm 81 and there isn't a day I don't miss it. Its really amazing no matter how much new music is coming out, that era will never die nor will the ones before it. What's really respectful to my generation is that our younger generation is listening to what I grew up with.

      Mark Lindsay was a tremendous lead singer. One of the ways you can tell is that any time people have tried to cover Raiders tunes, they can never come close to the original. 'Him or Me' is a great example; a lot of versions of that song have been recorded, and no one can touch Mark Lindsay's vocal performance. Just superb.

    I think it is absolutely insane that Paul Revere and the Raiders are not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. They are one of the greatest group that ever performed. They not only have great musical talent, they also have the greatest personalities. I could listen to them all day. I have listened to them since they started in the 60’s.

    • @philiphatfield5666
      @philiphatfield5666 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      They are not in the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame because they were a sham. Their records were great and Mark Lindsay was a fine singer, but that famous studio band, The Wrecking Crew, provided most of the instrumental music on those hit singles and LP's. I saw them on TV all the time, but they did not perform 'live' even once! They always 'pantomimed' to a recording and they did not even do that convincingly.. It seems that the so-called band members were more interested in wearing those pathetic costumes and posing for teen magazines like Tiger Beat, than practicing on their instruments in order to become good enough to put on a real concert. They simply have no credibility as a self contained band.

Always saw through the fence, but never had the balls/smarts to climb it , and after reaching the top, still lacking the honesty to do the part that validated the climb: Hopping over to the other side!!! I made it man and I'm feeling great! Anyone who thinks there's no higher power than us ought to have their head examined! Thanks for "listening" friend!

    The guitar riff from 136 to 151 is absolutely sublime. I see this influence in some Beatles songs and in my favorite song of all time BADGE. The ANIMALS didn't wan't KICKS because they figured it would ruin their bad boy image. This is a great song and Paul Revere and the Raiders belong in the Hall.

    The kicks, a better drug, a better party, a better girl, gets old. The loneliness of searching can be brutal. Everything changed for me when believed in Jesus as my Lord and Savior at 24. Now I'm drug free, married, and looking forward to heaven. We are almost home!

      Great testimony Paul, I dealt drugs for nearly 10 years in the late sixties and almost all of the seventies. I got saved March 23rd,1980 and have been drug free every since(40 years.) Sin is fun for a season and then it gets old.I had 4 buddies go to the pen for dealing and the guy I was selling weed for got murdered.!
