I’ll just say this: If Tarantino made Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, a fictional story fuzed with the real life Manson family murders and nobody questioned it. I believe this series should be seen also as an alternative 1950’s Hollywood where everything taboo is becoming the new normal.
One thing is changing one historical event. Another is to change the whole society of that time. It was bad, sure, but it was what it was and it should be represented as such.
Pretty good show, but I think they should have called it “Dreamland” instead of “Hollywood” because this was by all means a much more fantasied version of Hollywood itself. Honestly surprised it wasn’t a musical. It probably could work well as one I mean it got the looks of one so..🤷♂️

i dont know it would be good but since they ended up saying the new movie was called "dreamland" fits because it shows all the movies they will/might produce in that time not just one of them.

They solved racism as a whole from one movie. I’m fine with hopeful alternative endings but that’s just straight up erasure of all the people who actually struggled for the Hollywood we have today. They barely faced adversity in the show and when they did it was easily solved in almost the next scene. It dissolved the tension before it had a chance to build and ruined the pacing.

I binged it all the other day and I just couldn’t stop watching! I love anything about the 1940s so I was hooked from the start! I will say the only time I cried tho was when anna may won and the showed her speech and the Chinese family listening at the radio oh god it was such a moving scene! The same with the gay man and the black family! In real life when those things happened( in the real situations) it must have been such a ground breaking moment for people
I just binged watched this series over the last 2 days. It’s amazing! I actually cried at some parts. The acting is excellent. All the actors are great in their own right but Jim Parsons should win an award for his role.
i have seen through episode 3 and the thing that bothers me most about the show is NOT the mixture of Hollywood history with Hollywood fiction -- historical fiction is an old established genre in books as well as film. no, what really bugs me are the verbal anachronisms; language and usage from much more recent years used in the script without thought to their historical inaccuracy. i mean, if the filmmakers are such sticklers for VISUAL detail, how about the LANGUAGE detail, too. of course, i'm an old guy in addition to being a great film fan; the language anachronisms probably don't matter to younger viewers.

I saw the Scotty Bowers Documentary and 40% of the series Hollywood is taken directly from his autobiography. In the Documentary, Scotty has several photo albums filled with pictures from the "Weekly Pool Parties" as featured in the series.
The twentieth academy awards and the 1946 ceremony are actually two separate events since two years were skipped during the war....this is an error in the series as well.
First video from SR I've seen that deserved the long running time. Would have loved to see discussion on the homosexuality/bisexuality, the show was saturated with it and I want to know how accurate that was.
I read the book. I love the 40’s and I think about 85 % is true. But this take on the Hollywood magic is phenomenal. I think Patti LuPone is the Bomb. She and Holland Taylor are wonderful. Joe Martello and Dylan Are amazing. The younger actors have brilliant futures. I loved it.
Well then you need to see the show to understand. The idea is to think about a Hollywood that could have been if actors of color weren't pigeonholed into certain roles and given the opportunity to be in the forefront. It's very clearly a mix if fact and fiction.
The acting is great. The writing is great. except.. theyre putting things that could happen in the 2000's back in the 30s 40s and 50s. By doing that they take away the credit from those brave enough to do them. The first interracial kiss.. star trek. Rock Hudson telling the world he had aids and was gay changed the world in a big way. Brokeback mountain was the movie they first made in this series.. except it was after 2010...... this could have been far better if they had these people try to change the world.. and show real consequences. And people overcoming those etc
I have no interest in biopics anymore. There's more fantasy in so many biopics, even if the facts were just shifted for dramatic effect. So, the film has to stand on its own as a drama (or a comedy, in the case of Ed Wood). Some do, but a lot simply don't.

You didn't talk about the homosexuality represented in the show at all, almost like you conveniently skipped over that part of representation, even though it was a huge theme throughout the entire show. Just wow

I’m happy Anna May Wong was finally portrayed on screen. I always thought her story in show business was interesting.

Cinematography is good but the acting is pretty flat and dialogues are cringe.
It's a great TV series. It's like seeing an oscar winning film.
