Leave Lika for GOTA
in the long jump
Thank you very much
Lewis jumped a legit 30ft in 1982. He was robbed of the record in two ways: 1) the judge who called the foul mistakenly used ncaa definition of a foul, not international rules, and 2) when he went to dispute the foul, his sand imprint was mistakenly raked away. He didn’t argue too much because being so young he thought he’d get there again. In my book he had the greatest jump ever.
There will never be another long jumper as technically perfect as Carl.
He's the No.1 in history in long jump.
I have watched these jumps hundreds of times, but still awesome !...
The most successful long jumper and athlete of all events in general. By far superior to all, considering the difficulty and the nature of the event. Jumpers retire from action quickly due to extensive strain and vulnerability to injuries. Consistency in Olympics for the golden medals of jumping events is the utmost feat. And not only long jump, sprints as well!! That's why Carl is the King of all events and sports!!!
Top athlete by far, of all ages, of all events, of all sports!!
84,88,92,96 Olympic long jump champion. The goat
Thanks for putting this together!
Absolutely legendary!

The greatest
Awesome--great video!
This video shows his two advantages well.
First , he runs fastest in the world .
So he approaches and takes off very relaxed.
This advantage reduced his foul jump extremely.
And his legendary aerial form gives him stble jump.
When he jumps 30 feet, he lands usually .
Sorry very poor English.
Jumping like Carl Lewis needs much natural energy realised from the body
GOAT? no..
K A N G A R O O? ... YES!
GOAT, yes, of course !
El más grande de todos los tiempos
Impressive.
My gosh. Is this even humanly possible? 😂
@CARL KING LEWIS would you trade one or more of your long jump Olympic medals for the world record? #thegoat
It's a shame he did not break the WR, considering his track record and legacy...
ルイスを超えるスプリンター は その後 何人も現れたのに ルイスを超えるロングジャンパー は( まったくと言っていいほど)現れない 。
King ?!? But look at his HAIR
I strongly believe if the Americans track athletes watch your videos and practice from them: they'll do extremely well, however! everyone wants to make a name for themselves, Keshaun, out of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, won gold and broke a world record; how by looking at a video on TH-cam and came here for a li'll, and the rest is history, ( javelin ).
😮🎉🎉🎉
Never held the world record though did he 😁
He is the INDOOR WORLD RECORD holder of 8.79
He never focuses on RECORDS
He had 13 WORLD RECORDS in his career, but all of them were in SPRINT
But there is a GOATH in the long jump
Give me four Olympic gold medals in one event and I wouldn't give a hoot about the world record.
I have deep respect for what you did throughout your carrier Sir but excuse-me, you are not the best long jumper. You are third on the list and you know it...
Depends how greatness is measured. He was the most consistent putting out very long distances. And he’s a four time Olympic gold medalist combined with 2 World Championship golds.
@@deangarratt4965 The essence of long jump is about how long you can jump from point A to point B, correct ? So, in that sense, Mr Carl Lewis has never been the best at that. Mike Powell and Bob Beamon did better (even if it was only once !). And believe me that I have the UTMOST respect for Mr Lewis. The essence of a sport has nothing to do with fame. See Shelly-Ann Fraser Price ? No world records at all, not the fastest alive on 100m and far from that on 200m. She is still often considered the greatest female sprinter of all time (to me, it is a nonsense). Because of what ? Titles (fame), not records. Till now, FloJo is the best until her records are broken.
@@danle3181 I see your argument. That’s fair enough. I think consistency matters and Lewis had the best technique. It’s disappointing that he missed out by only centimetres, and what ifs. His marginal no jump in 1982 was certainly out there.
@@deangarratt4965 Yes, Mr Lewis was the most consistent ever without a doubt and I totally concur with your statement. He would have deserved that world record but...
What a daft comment. Even Bob Beamon and Mike Powell wouldn't argue that he is not the greatest ever.
He's not the world record holder but only by a tiny fraction...but he won 4 successive Olympic long jump golds in 84, 88, 92 and 96..... no one else has a record anywhere near that so he must be the greatest.
The greatest, yes. The best, no.
@@danle3181 huh?
@@david2804meGreatest is about his whole long jump carrier (titles). Best is about world record.
Al Oerter won 4 golds in the discus in 4 differents Olympics way before Carl Lewis.

And? This discussion is about the long jump.
It's astonishing that Lewis never broke the WR in the long jump.
Just goes to show what a special record it is, having only been broken once in 55 years and that was 32 years ago! Anyway, it's gold medals that count and Lewis has those in spades.
I agree with you
Bemon and then Powell made the jumps of their lives. Bemon One and Powell was a great competitor
And Lewis won EVERYTHING
The long jump is a VERY TECHNICAL event and maybe that's why it's so hard to break the WORLD RECORD
Speed is also important in the long jump (CARL was the Best Sprinter in the World for a Decade)
It's a pity he didn't jump over 9 meters
Although in 1982 in Idianapolis he jumped over 9 meters (around 9.12), but the judges considered the jump offside (there was no Camera on Plasteline at these competitions), Carl won the competition with a score of 8.76
Lewis with 13 World Records (12 in sprints) BECAME THE BEST INDOOR LONG JUMP RESULT IN HISTORY: 8.79 (established almost 40 years ago JAN 27, 1984 WR AR NO.
Carl's top 100 legal jumps have an average of 8.54/28'0 1/2"
and including wind-assisted jumps, his top-100 averaged 8.602/28'2 1/2"
Only 16 competitors achieved a result of 8.60 or more (we are talking about one or a few attempts, not 100)
I will also mention the final competition of OG in Atlanta 96 when he jumped 8.50 into a headwind of 1.3, which would likely have been a Lewisesque 8.70-8.75 with the wind in the opposite direction.
KIND REGARDS
He was robbed of a world record in 1982 when the judge incorrectly ruled a foul on a jump that was estimated to be well over 9 metres. Unfortunately the pit was immediately raked before an appeal could be lodged.

GREETINGS
Carl was the best long jumper ever!! Just look at all time longest jump lists and the gold medals and World Championships. Powell had an amazing jump that can not be denied and may stand for a century, beating Beamon’s amazing altitude jump, then the world never heard of…Pedrosa topping Powell WR but then reversed and not counted officially because someone stood in front of the wind meter. But Carl had the infamous “no mark” foul which many say was beyond 9meters. It’s sad to see the days of the great long jumpers having passed. With high paying sports contracts, I think it would taken a world record bounty of millions of dollars to bring the competition back to this event.
The best
Thanks for searching and putting this together. Love this
