- In 2006 two bands from Tallahassee Florida came together to form Mayday Parade. Shortly after they recorded their debut album, A Lesson In Romantics, when Derek Sanders was only 20 years old. Produced by Zack Odom and Kenneth Mount, this album defined the emo genre as we know it and landed them a slot at Warped tour in 2007.
A Lesson In Romantics is such a timeless record. Love what you guys are doing with this podcast. I would love to see episodes for these records..
Riot! - Paramore
The Upsides - The Wonder Years
Under Soil and Dirt - The Story So Far
Listen and Forgive - Transit
All Killer No Filler - Sum 41
The first song they ever wrote together was three cheers for five years…. My mind is blown, that song is so fucking incredible and they just wrote it the first time ever working together.
Had no idea one of the singers is now a Christian worship leader. Id love for you guys to hopefully get him on to talk about his conversion and why he switched lanes. Im a catholic and i love my fairh and my emo/punk music from 2008 simultaneously. I wonder if maybe the “rockstar” life was pulling him too far from his faith? As a song writer myself, i think its totally possible to love god but also write “secular” music. We all have normal human emotions that can be expressed through music.
