Love this video! My uncle had a 1880 in late 60's early 70's with the Ford Heavy Duty Industrial engine. What an experience riding on that machine with him chopping corn here in Vermont.
Great video! My neighbors where I grew up had an 1880 with cab, it had the Cat engine. They pulled Badger forage wagons behind it, they had 4 of those… I always liked how loud it was, when I would hear it running I would hurry up and climb a tree in the field tree line, just so I could watch it in action. I was around 7 years old when I started that.
I LOVE the old sp silage choppers 😍. There were 4 of these NH 1880s within a 5 mile radious when I was a kid and in the morning waiting on the side of the county road for the school bus I could hear the Diesel engines in them all over the valley in the morning air. Everybody that used them now wears hearing aids
Can you still get parts for that old machine? (meaning you) lol... I shouldn't tease as I was around before they started making those choppers. You were right, I do not remember anyone having a 3 row head chopper when I was young that was big time - today my friends chop 10 rows and move much faster... Great video Mike. I am always wondering what we will see next. You do a great job!
Nice! We had 2 diff Fox's, was to young to remember the first one. 2nd one was a Max2 ? I still remember the sound of it starting and chopping. Wore it out then got a 5400 jd... always remember dad complaining about that thing. Then got a jd 5830. Put over 8k hours on it was a good machine. All custom chopped now
Nice video! That is a great way to cut some corn quickly, and with a forage Box that size, you had better be working on fairly level land unless you weigh that chopper down very heavily!
Hi Mike a custom harvester from where i live used to have one like this but with a cab and back in the days he was a big one. He was the first around here that used sp choppers Anyone who passed a field where he was running this machine stopped by and looked
That would have been a big deal where I come from,my Dad and his friend chopped 200 acres with a single row new holland pull type...it seemed like it took forever.
@@farmhandmike there are a couple videos on you tube we put up about 10 years ago, one more recent. ...I'll see if I can find them..ihfan2 channel has two of them and one is under my thumbnail I think
A farmer near us in southern Wisconsin had a Uni back in about 1958, open station the operator sat in the back of the machine right next to the air cooled wisconsin v4 engine, doing two rows at a time, it made a lot of noise just with the v4 and the poor excuse for a muffler if you dare call it a muffler.
Was that a variable or hydro transmission? I Was that alfalfa or beans in that first field. I was waiting to see how they change the wagons next to a bean field?
Sounds nothing like one. 3406 is a straight 6 with a Y pipe splitting into 2. This is a 3150 V8, with true duals, which is one pipe off each manifold. Makes it sound like two 4 bangers fighting each other.
Cool machine! NH sure made some great stuff back then. One muffler and one straight pipe. 🤓 I’m guessing the one muffler rusted away and they just put on a simple pipe, since they weren’t worried about it being too loud.

That open station would be loud, hot and dirty. That's farming at its best. Awesome stuff Mike!!😁👍
Great video! Thanks Mike. I love seeing the old iron out in the field.
Instantly transported back to the early 1970’s. Thank you Mike……
Definitely sounds like a great running older chopper!! Really like your video!! Very much appreciated!! Thanks again for sharing them 😊!!
Nice! He was marchin right along with that ol girl! Thanks for taking the time to video the old stuff too.
The fresh produce you harvest looks so delicious
Brings back childhood memories. Neighbor had a fox chopper just like it
Great memories knew a guy bought one in early seventies and did custon work Thanks for the video He had a cab had cat engine
Thank you for sharing your video with us...
Crazy to think how big the choppers got now👍😉 the classic machines are always great to see👍👍
Love those old self propelled choppers - - great video thanks
Nothing sounds like an older New Holland chopper! We still have our 717super , they are a good machine.
Great video Mike. I really like that NH chopper. Seems fairly simple. Of course it's a seat on top of a chopper body.

It's fantastic to see this old machine at work.
Mike I thought you was young!!! Great to see the classics still going
Old school silage harvest.....the good old days?
Just opened up my corn field today with a fox max 2 chopper Detroit 8v72 had to do a little work on the belts but it works great
Old girl getting the job done👍
Great video of some old Iron still getting it done!

Llegó a mis manos una máquina así
Had one we chopped with when I was younger ours was gas powered and cables to I loved that thing
Nice to see Versailles! Got family there farming. The Heitkamp family. I’m from fort Loramie myself

Lovely old machine and great video!
I love the legacy equipment.
Really great machine there!
Oldie but goodie! 😉
Thanks a lot for the video! 😊👍🏻
in my neck of the woods mike! I have family in versailles! Nice equipment!
Great video! Thanks 😊
I bought a really straight 880, needs all new bearing seals n chains but it's not been abused with rocks n iron, hope to run her for 2022
If you are chopping hay they are still ok. If you are chopping corn you get much better feed with a machine with a kernel processor.
Never seen one like it! Thanks!
Great awesome video mike, love that chopper

Ya, That would take forever! :)
Biggest we ever had was a two head and it also took forever.
What a wonderfully ramshackle looking thing. Seems quite handy for tight spaces though.
Very very nice mike
Great as always
Love those forage videos!
Great video Mike.
Hah - that's all that's inside one of those big Claus or JD units. Never saw one f these very cool. Nice wagons
Claas
Really enjoyed the show last tried to see you but i missed you on wed.
Awesome 💯
great work 😍
Still does a great job, I still use a heavily modified Farmhand F600 chopper, gets the job done and sounds good doing it.
Man I'd love to see that thing in action sometime.

Nice👍
Awesome love it
What about the AC and massaging seat? Does Bluetooth and auto steer work with open cabs?
You come up with the best stuff! Weird is me.

Hey, you're pretty close to my hometown!
We had an 1880 harvester but with the gas Ford engine. Harvester was great but not the motor, but that's was also when gas was cheap.
Miss it
😁👍👏👏
Thanks Mike, that was great 👍👍's up.

Way we chop corn we had selfperpal foxchoper three row
What year was this made?
First time i thought why this v8 sounds like a lawn mower.then i mentioned this was the atv youre riding on....lol...
That field would take forever to chop with that chopper
Great looking setup , but that would be deafening,, and dangerous with no protection in the operating position!!!!
Is this on St Rt 121 north?
Yes
I like Mike less videos on TH-cam.
I am leasing versatile 175 tractor with my nephew
My neighbors had a Field Queen in the 70's with a screaming Detroit diesel that they called the "Jimmy." Wow, was that noisy!
I just videod a Hesston Field Queen and I’ll have a video in the near future about it
Buen día alguien podría decirme que motor usaba está máquina
Cat V8
Had 110 silage wagons kersten
He has hearing WHAT???
There a farmer near us that has a old new Holland chopper like that but has a cab and also a Cat engine
I swear i could smell this video. Few times that ole cat really bellered
Ah, the so-called “Whopper Chopper”
No the 2100 was the Whopper Chopper.
@@delbutler885 Wow, I’m really stupid at times 🤦♂️

It's an 1150 cat the small Diesel V8 made before the 3208. They are around 180 hp naturally aspirated.
@@ChevyConQuesoif you think this sounds good a Claas 695 forager sounds great with the big merc V8 growling away
