Anybody else just want a full length musical about Sara Berry and it ends with the Ballad of Sara Berry? Like I would love a crazed breaking of a teenage prom queen who goes on a rampage musical.
you should check out “we are the tigers,” it’s not exactly like sara berry (they’re a cheer team rather than prom queen candidates) but it has a similar idea!
I have a really badly thought out theory of sorts. So this is all one big story (duh) but not quite tge way you probably think. So the main characters are Sara Berry, Julie, The Manny, and Caralee. Sara berry is the main narrator, Julie is the girl who is always in and out of love (Good Lady, On Monday, you make me happy, and Seraph) The Manny is the one who is in love with julie, and also has frequent nightmares (Crazy town) finally Caralee, has had a life full of despair (Leave Luanne, Caralee, etc) and is constantly overlooked. Sara tell these stories to herself while in the asylum for the criminally insane. But she doesn't realize she actually saw all of it happen, Manny is her neighbor, Julie was here best friend, caralee is her sister. She forgot all about them existing and tells the stories like lullabies to herself creating different characters for the story. Make of this what you will, I came up with it about a month ago.
I wish I knew who these kids were? Because the girl who sang Sara Barry, and leave Luanne is super talented. Also I wish there was a description of the accompanying concept that culminates in the “narrator” frantically picking up all the photos?
i feel like the narrator picking up the photos like that was because the sara berry story freaked her out so much that she wanted to forget it was there, maybe shoving the pictures into a closet to never look at again?
My theory! The narrator is a detective of sorts who was researching these cases or at least some of these cases, and was unable to solve them or find out what happened. All of the songs are their imagination trying to piece together their own theories of what might have happened, or that they could’ve figured it out-sorta taunting them, ya know? Also I saw this theory in another comment; that the songs are stories of people at a psych ward and how they got there-maybe the narrator is some sort of counselor who listens to their stories? And Sara’s story disturbed them a lot which is represented by them picking up the photos

i like to think that the narrator like girl is sara berry, which is why she gets all freaked out at the end of the ballad. i mean, in transition 4 they’re just repeating focus sara, so i mean???
I agree. I feel like she's telling her own story over to herself in third person. And that's why at the end of Ballad, she's the only one singing "check Sara, choose Sara, vote for Sara Berry" instead of "The Ballad of Sara Berry". She is still in the asylum but she thinks that after telling the story, she's still in school, trying to convince people that she deserves the crown. Idk that's just my personal theory and really bad explanation with it.
Having only ever listened to the cast recording, it amazes me how hollow this sounds without the cello/stringed instruments. I never really gave much thought to it before, but its absence takes away so much musically. Not to say it isnt still pretty good, just very different and, as I said, a bit hollow.
It sounded hollow in the beginning to me, but as i started getting into, i found body language added some sort of incredible depth to it for me, as well as the variations in how they sung as opposed to cast recording.

Actually no it’s based on a set of photo graphs taken by the creator’s lover (?) i forget. But there is a commendtary out so I recommend you listen to it
I love The Party Goes With You. Especially this performance. It's so much more emotional than the soundtrack. Not to say that the soundtrack isn't filled to the brim with emotion, it's just that you really feel it here. And her voice is just gorgeous. I love it.
The guy who sang “good lady” has an absolutely amazing voice! That vibrato is phenomenal. He has that perfect Broadway sound! I can listen to his voice nonstop. Also, he plays guitar and piano. So talented. I wanted to here him and the girl that sang “leave luanne” sing together because their voices are impeccable!
The seraph caught me off guard and left me sobbing the first time and I’m coming back to this after what feels like too long and it made me cry all over
It took me so long to notice how their postures and facial expressions change from song to song. Especially "the photographer", normally mimicking the movements or trying to act the emotions exhibited by the main singers. It really is amazing
what was that at the end? where the main singer of the ballad of sara berry taunted the narrator and then the narrator scrambled to pick up all the pictures?
My theory is that the narrator is Sara Berry and she's freaking out because she wants to forget everything she did. As for the main singer taunting her, I'm not sure why she did that.
It always blows me away with how loud pianos play in musicals like this. Half the time you can’t even hear the gorgeous lyrics and vocals. The only way to hear them is if the actors belt loudly, which is terrible for their voice if they don’t have the right technique. Can’t the accompanist accompany instead of just playing?

+1 ... I wish there were more info with this video. This is an outstanding production and I'd like to know more.
The musical is basically a collection of songs that are based off of photos. None of the songs are connected to each other.
