- Food Journalist Richard Johnson is next to face The Dragons. He's pitching a street food company with a difference. Richard is seeking a £60,000 investment for 9% of his business, Street Food Ventures.
Season 20, Episode 6.
An international sensation, Dragon's Den features entrepreneurs pitching for investment in the Den from our Dragons, five venture capitalists willing to invest their own money in exchange for equity.

I don't think anyone including me knew what he was offering which is a shame because a high % of his turnover was profit
I would be careful not to put too much weight on that information...
I highly doubt those figures are accurate. He hasn't got a clue what he's doing.
Yeah I'm super confused how the rev structure works..is he trying to launch an awards program? The design magazine I work for does an award show annually. But the tickets to the award show isn't our primary rev stream. We charge firms to submit their work. And we have a magazine that runs ads and shows off winners, which also supplies rev. It's more of a 'within the industry' thing.
He offered to feed the Dragons 🐲 🐉 some free food. 😂 Lol
😳😂"im sorry...My brain doesn't work very well"...Peter..."What? With numbers?" 🤦🏻♂️🤣🤣🤣
That was cold😅
😂😂
Don’t even get what the business is or what he’s offering
So he has managed to build a huge event. It is like a street food festival and every street food stand in the world wants to compete in it. He could ask for an entry fee like 100$ per company or percentage of their sales and he could be really rich. If it becomes popular around the world.
He is a promotor of sort?
@@Reinonordinn Actually no...the business he is pitching to the dragons is to obtain revenue via sponsorship deals for his streetfood event and franchising the event model.
The fact that he couldn't demonstrate that he knew how to make it work and seemed way in over his head is the reason why he didn't get the investment. If he came in and explained it the way you did he probably would have walked away with a deal
Ă⁸⁸⁸8⁸81íuu
Fake it til you make it. 😂
I don't even think he knew what he was offering. Probs one of the worst pitches I've seen
He's offering street food events.
@TheManInBlueFlames I get that, but the pitch was so disjointed.
Someone should own 50% of his business and just handle it. He seems to be like a visionary and that’s it.
He’s not a visionary. He’s credibility.
Guy needs some glasses for his vision
He should have found someone to help him. Bizarre he couldn’t work that out himself.
He needed someone like Sarah Willingham to be in the dragons. Someone who knows F&B industry, but not a competitor of potential sponsors.
What is your business?:
'Sponsorships and franchising'
What are you blind spots?:
'Sponsorships and franchising'
🤣🤣🤣
oh dear richard.. peter nailed it, a likeable qualified guy but with no clue about business
Most Journalists aren't business people. (If they were, they'd be Publishers. Or Script Editors.)
They're used to 'merely' producing the content. Then other Colleagues / Depts decide what to do with it, Where it goes and how to monetize that.)
@@re7416Still doesn’t provide an incentive for an investor to invest
“The most exciting food movement since organic”🤣🤣🤣🤣
Deborah at the end: "I think he's got a business there - he just doesn't know what it is!" 🤣🤣🤣
The whole thing was just a complete shemozzle... entertaining, yes! But a shemozzle all the same 😁
Hankierderk
How did he even make it on the show?
The criteria is unique business rather than just good ones
He's semi-famous and Peter ripped him a new 1..
Probably the most confusing pitch ever. I don't even know what his business is or how you'd franchise it. At first I thought it was a food truck business.
Did the person who wrote the video title even watch the video?
Probably not.
I'm really surprised to see this hasn't gone through, I've been attending the awards in my country for the past 3 years and they are a very popular event...
Where?
@@craigpardy6204 Iceland, and the winners went to Germany to compete against the winners from the other European countries
@@ionut8256 cool, thanks.
If it's a popular event, he shouldn't have to be any money issues. Also, still doesn't explain what the business he was offering actually was.
@@green_firefly The pitch was many years ago, when they had just started. What I’m talking about is more recent, meaning that meanwhile they made it work.
In a nutshell, he couldn't say, he was selling street food awards. He's trying establish, first come first basis a monopoly on street food awards. like Michelin is to restaurants, and then milk the goodwill via advertising and sponsorships.
I think there's an excellent business here in being a street food retailer, kind of like a food court for street grub and food trucks. He can create a brand and rent out space to different vendors and stalls, kind of like a social/urban marketplace for street food. I don't really get the franchising thing because he doesn't seem to have a restaraunt himself, unless I'm wrong. He can franchise the brand and get people to rent out space. He can also sell the equipment to the restaurants, kind of like a B2B wholesaler. Does this idea make sense or have I made a mess of it 🤔 ?
These places are everywhere lol
Street food business got a right rollicking from Peter 😮
"My brain doesn't work really well"
Peter jones: With numbers or ??
Lol it killed me!
All he has to do is charge the street food vendors to enter.
Great content
Everyone should know their data no matter whether you're a Business Owner or not!
I once ate street food and it made me SHlT my guts out
Can’t believe this guy set these damn awards up. In 2010 I set up the Great Street Food Awards, charged £20,000 to each vendor for entering the awards, which would guarantee them a nomination, and for another £40k I’d give them a Gold Medal. No takers. 👋
he has certainly dressed to impress
He needs a business/sales guy to be his partner. He needs to find the right person to help him.
How does someone watch this programme for years and not know his figures backwards and forwards?
at the end it all came down to Peter.....the room was silent.....Peter said " i'll tell you what i'm going to do "......"i'm going to......order two sausage and egg sandwiches "
Am glad he rehearsed his pitch at home 😅
So Ladies and Gentlemen..... THAT was an english journalist!! What a state to get into! (probably suits the Sun and Express though)
Is that Sara Davies?! Christ she looks incredible this season! Well done Sara, clearly been smashing the gym!
Is it a red nose day sketch? I haven't laughed out loud for a very long time 🤣
I’d hate to read his recommendations for food after this performance 😂
The first and most important rule of the den: Know all your figures
At first i thought he was planning events where the best streetfood stalls of Europe would come together and compete in a market and the public would vote on the best one. It would be televised and he would be the host + sponsorship would be a breeze.
I'm so upset that they got a food truck in the Den. Because that means that they are on the ground floor and that the elevator is fake. 😭😱
This is the real life version of the Underpants Gnomes business plan.
Don't quite understand his idea 😂 What I would put forward to him is this;
If your in a position where your basically giving out free franchises without the knowledge of monetizing it, then on top of that having the most miniscule returns on your sponsorships, what was your plan with our investment money before coming into the den?
This guy needed more of an
"For every pound, we'll plant 50 trees" type of investor.
Rather than an investor looking to buy their next yatch.
This was quite painful…
The title is a tad off. Deborah was fine with it but it's nothing for her to invest in it. I thought she'd be making an offer by the title.
she supposedly only invests in businesses that dont exploit animals
I’ve watched Dragon’s Den for years, and this is probably the most incoherent pitch I’ve ever seen(which is saying something).
Seems like a likeable guy who just doesn’t have any grasp of the mechanics of business.
richard dean anderson is looking well.
Why is everyone in this comment section a bot...?
because eventually some div will follow one of the links in their profiles
Does not compute.
TH-cam refuse to do anything about the bot profiles.
I haven't seen a single bot. In fact, although I know you're not a bot, your comment is the least specific and therefore the most bot-like. Maybe they got deleted before I got here?
@@colmwhateveryoulike3240 they get washed away by real comments, but early on there will be a genreric comment wirh a hot girl profile with one video on the channel with links
He is clearly an intelligent man. It was so embarrassing for him to admit he hadn't a clue about the business he was looking for the Dragons to invest in.
Had an idea and that was it.
Poor guy, he was completely lost.
09:14 - A Nigella Lawson moment....
The food is probably good, the idea may or may not work, but he is not an investable entrepreneur. How do you expect an investment when you’re so unspecific?
I have to declare that I am out
What's the USP? What's the business?? Are these awards a one time event?? Do I pay to get in? Do I vote after I've left? Do I eat for free? What are the sponsors for? Just to place ads? Terrible pitch.
no one asked
This was hilarious.
So he wants to be the mitchelin star version of street food
Possibly. There's been numerous street food sellers in SEA over the years. First in Singapore and now additionally in Malaysia, Hong Kong and Thailand.
The thumbnail headings are all bs.
Steven gave him the play
Street food guy. Only got a hint. He needs an Aaron to communicate the great ideas stuck in his head. He's no dummy, but cannot articulate his dreams or facts he needs for a presentation. I hope he finds someone to help.
Award-winning
There are so many opportunities with what he has created.
Where did his 210k net profit come from..
He probably hasn’t ever watched dragons den
Feel so bad for him 😢
Struth, i can not follow what or how this is anything. Maybe its me but what is it all about.
What is with the colour in the new episode? From the Dragons to the entrepreneurs to even the changes to the set. It's a bit oversaturated!
So confused lol….I could change this model in a second.
The dragons tried but he just wasn’t able to make the pitch work.
He is a writer and not a business man and that implies he is not a sales man
Why’s he got inches cider branding on his wagon
The dragons lost my respect a long time ago with the waye way they value these small businesses. Business valuation is more complex with publically traded companies. But small to medium businesses are valued by taking assets minus liabilities. Cash flow and your income statement is always a key indicator.
How the fcuk does Deborah approve of this business when a) his program was what drove her to plant based diet
B) she was the second person to go out ?
If your not good with numbers then write it down on paper and take it out at the pitch, Better to give the correct information then guess and the dragons pull you to pieces over your numbers
Man that business was easy to understand. I don’t understand why all the confusion.
What is he pitching?!?!
I can fell his passion and hope that soon he’ll figure out how to run his business
I had tacos for lunch they were so good 👍
You had tacos for lunch they? What?
@@BenjaminGoose They were so good
2:18 we knew already Sara
Some people are just meant to be successful writers.
This was painful to watch. This journalist can’t communicate at all
Kids, dont skip math in school
Wow
Damn, his name is Dick Johnson
Everyone says nice guy but the arrogance shone through at the end
It did?
The bloke doesn’t have a clue, what a waste of everyone’s time.
Watching this is painful
A food critic but he doesn’t know basic numbers. Red flag.
😮
"virus" lmao
People should stop going into the den and not understand every single detail of their business, especially the money side
The trainwrecks are always more entertaining.
A sudden fall from grace for Jamie Carragher....
What a scruffy guy I noticed his jeans were riped and worn out bottom of his foot rear shoes when he walked into the den 😒
Hmm... seems almost too symmetrical not to be on purpose and it's not in a usual spot for wearing, but it does look a bit scruffy for an interview, regardless.
I dont think he knows himself what he wants
Bro just coppy and paste
Looks like this food journalist has UNDERSTOOD how to MAKE MONEY.
Get OTHER people to work for you by creating an award that nobody cares about but everybody works toward.
Basically he's tagging on to OTHER poeple's businesses to make an "award" and get money off THEIR backs.
Yup! Congrats you won an award, just pay us the £2.5k for the table and meal. Rinse and repeat.
Another made up valuation
You know things are turning south when the Dragons Den channel is putting up bullshit video titles. She approved of nothing
A good old-fashioned grifter
It's excruciating listening to this bloke.
This man is so backwards
Ello lads
Haven't seen something this useless on TV since Jedward
He's clueless about how to run his business lol
