Yeah gotta say, he may not be a relevant star in wrestling, but I always admired his ability in the ring, his mic skills and the way he comes across in this shoot interview. Seems a top guy
Val is a good choice for 99. Knows everything about what happened during that time and has no reason not to tell the truth or pull any punches. WCW Timeline will be epic.
I remember al snow and val venis havin a fantastic match on raw once, even jr and king were shocked by how good the match was..val was very underrated..
Morley may have not been an "office guy" in 1999, but he's always been a VERY observant guy...so on that fact alone I think he's qualified to talk about WWF events & happenings of 1999...
recently just came across this channel and the youshoot videos are brilliant, how long roughly are the interviews? from what ive seen from the sean waltman trailers the whole interview is gold, keep up the good work - i hope these commentaries keep coming
Here are the best parts: Tells a great story about the Amazing Owen Hart ribbing him. The whole story was very funny from start to finish. Tells another great story about Al Snow ribbing him. Tells a quick, but funny story about Jesse Ventura. His comment about Hardcore Holly in relation to Bill Goldberg was ridiculous.
When Crash Holly won the Hardcore Title and was put in an angle where he said he'd defend it 24/7, he was over like rover. That angle made Crash huge for, admittedly, a very short space of time but he was still over, and it has to be said, for a short time, more over than half the top stars in WWF and WCW, Goldberg included.
Basically he's suggesting that by '99-'00 even the mid-card guys in WWF were more over thatn the top guys in WCW. He's actually not that far off. Think about Rikishi and Too Cool and how over they were and there the definition of mid-card.
There any plans on a Timeline series for TNA? Jerry Jarrett for year one and/or two would be great. They already longer in existence and bigger ( in total fan-base worldwide not talking how remembered or attendances etc) then ECW which u do have a timeline on.
It's not the "PG" era that is killing WWE. You can still be creative and be "PG". The fact is that WWE Creative is not...well...creative. Creativity has nothing to do with adult story lines. If you are a good writer, or a good producer or booker in this case, then you should be able to come up with material whether it's "PG"" or not.
I really like Sean Morley. I spoke with him a few times (we both worked out at the same LA Fitness in Phoenix) and he is a very friendly and approachable. I think he prefers Mexico.
2 things: 1) when the hell was crash holly bigger than goldberg , can someone tell me that? 2) From what I heard, D-lo slipped on something that was thrown into the ring thus causing him to slip and drop Droz on his head.
I agree people may have been cheering Holly, but at no point were people putting down money for shirts, DVDs, PPVs or buying tickets to see him walk out with a scale in hand.
I think the lawsuit is the one with the PTC about the deaths of some dumbass kids and the time slot Smackdown! has. And if it isn't that, it's the one after Over the Edge 1999.
Its more than likely what Val meant was, as cruiser/hardcore champ, Crash got as much screentime as Goldberg who was the b all & end all of WCW. It was the same at TNA when Corny was GM when the knockouts & X divs got as much airtime as the HWS.
What was the deal with his story that ended at 2:15? I thought I heard "Eddie", and it did say "Angle" - obviously, that doesn't mean 100% he's referring to Guerrero and Kurt, but I don't follow this one at all.
While blame rightfully should fall upon the creative department. An equal amount needs to fall upon on Vince, he can stop any angle going through, or tell them to only concentrate on one specific angle. Which does seem like it has been happening as of late. Point being, they are both to blame - at least now we are seeing a good storyline being developed with the AJ angle.
In a way it's sort of true just in the sense that in 1999 the WWF as a company was WAY more over then WCW, and as Sean said Russo made sure that pretty much everyone on TV meant something and was over in their own right. So from that perspective, if you are JUST considering 1999, and if being a star is ONLY measured in how over you currently are, I would say Crash was bigger as fucking weird as that sounds.
There is, maybe, a little bit of truth to the Crash Holly statement as Bill was on a sinking ship 2 weeks out. I was a WCW Fan. I watched in horror as I had to change the channel every week to stuff like Crash Holly 24/ 7 gimmick
I Iike Val, but I think he's confused a bit. He says Crash Holly was a bigger star than Bill Goldberg, and that was due to Vince Russo. Well, Vince Russo left WWE in Oct 99 and Crash Holly had only debuted as the cousin of Hardcore Holly in Aug 99. He didn't start the whole "24/7 Hardcore Rules" until later - early to mid 2000. So not sure what Val's talking about here.
I definetly agree back in the attitude era Russo was good at getting everyone over, from Bob Holly and Crash to The Godfather, d-lo brown everyone was used and it was great
I do realize that, but you can do things one step at a time. There's a difference between flat-out saying "No" like Austin and saying "Hey Vince, I've got this idea and I feel really strongly about it. I know this will get over". Especially with their promos, it's been said by everyone from Triple H to Punk that no one HAS TO read their script... as long as they get most of it, they can add some of themselves into it. But most of these guys have no personalities and that's why they aren't stars.
I think its an exaggeration really. Mr Morely knows this but it works Crash Holly back in the day was a hell of a lot more over than most of the mid card today.
Precisely. Some of the best films of all time are "PG" at the very least. The main problem with WWE writers seems to be that they are inconsistent and at times just don't care, which is kind of sad since a lot of the time the in ring work is done well and all they need is a good storyline....which they have a tendency to not produce.
WWF was drawing a lot more viewers in that time frame. Just because Goldberg was the #1 guy in a #2 company doesn't mean that "lower" act in a #1 company can't be more recognized or well known. You think heavyweights Cole Konrad or Dave Cormier from Bellator and Strikeforce respectively, are as popular as, say, Ryan Bader in the UFC? They are the number 1 guys in their company but with far less viewers...but you're right, Goldberg being overrated is irrelevant to this fact.
Jose Reyes he was one of skinny rappers who rap on way ring with nation of domination in 1997 jc ice wofee dee who were in wwf for a few months with nation of domination faction in 97.
Sean took the words from my mouth! Back then EVERYBODY was involved in a storyline.
Now that he mentioned it. I do remember every character around 1999 had great gimmiks and story lines.
I've always respected his ability in the ring never knew he was this smart
Yeah gotta say, he may not be a relevant star in wrestling, but I always admired his ability in the ring, his mic skills and the way he comes across in this shoot interview. Seems a top guy

Al Snow playing the rib on Val is priceless. It was talked about in one of Foley's books lol
Last place I expected to find a Leeds Rhinos shirt!
There is a video of Jake Roberts wrestling in a late 80s Wigan shirt somewhere as well.
3:54 i thought that was a Leeds Rhinos shirt! Val Venis has now become one of my favorite wrestlers! MOT
There is a video of Jake Roberts wrestling in a late 80s Wigan shirt somewhere as well.
I still remember the Val Venison vs Rikishi match ups, they were great fights! that mini feud shouldve went on for much longer.
This actually looks pretty interesting - he seems to be a very articulate individual who has a great deal of insight into the wrestling business.
Later this year we'll debut Timeline The History of WCW
He started off giving brief answers but the interview got better as it went on.
I hope "Timeline History of WWE" 1998 will have Jim Cornette. Please dont take that away from us.haha
WATCH HERE: th-cam.com/video/w-vQFqsR4tI/w-d-xo.html
Huge respect for Sean, huge respect. One of my all time favorite entertainers of that era. Really psyched to see this.
I agree. Don't forget WWE was PG from the 80s right up untill mid 96 and it was awesome!
VV was one of the top characters of the attitude era. Seems like a good bloke too.
Morley may have not been an "office guy" in 1999, but he's always been a VERY observant guy...so on that fact alone I think he's qualified to talk about WWF events & happenings of 1999...

wicked jersey he's wearing didn't know he was a fan rugby league.
Would love to see this, a very interesting time for the WWE.
He should've joined DX in the late 90's.
WTF Rhinos! Rhinos!
I Have a new found respect for The Big Valbowski
There any plans on a Timeline series for TNA? Jerry Jarrett for year one and/or two would be great. They already longer in existence and bigger ( in total fan-base worldwide not talking how remembered or attendances etc) then ECW which u do have a timeline on.

The part about Owen's death must be hard to listen to. Also the part about Droz's accident.
Dammit dlo!
1:49 my thoughts with Kurt Angle since he joined TNA
Kinda confusing considering that Angle didn't use the Ankle Lock until March 2001 starting with "injuring" Scotty 2 Hotty
I really like Sean Morley. I spoke with him a few times (we both worked out at the same LA Fitness in Phoenix) and he is a very friendly and approachable. I think he prefers Mexico.
nash has done the 1995 timeline and KC are planning on releaseing WCW timeline in august :)
2 things:
1) when the hell was crash holly bigger than goldberg , can someone tell me that?
2) From what I heard, D-lo slipped on something that was thrown into the ring thus causing him to slip and drop Droz on his head.
I'm really interested in seeing this one.
There any plans on a Timeline series for WCW?
Awesome, look forward to it :)
Very true. Great post.
People liked Crash Holly, but that's kind of comparing apples to oranges.
And he liked drugs to the point of choking on his own vomit.
+BtXp Gaming He was a beginner. Every seasoned drug addict knows to sleep on your stomach.
This looks like it is more interesting than I thought it would be!
Can we get a 2001, 2002 or 2003 one?
Is it going to be like WWE Timeline (different years with different people) or just one DVD with the history of the company
Are you gonna do a You Shoot or timeline with Raven in the future?
Honeslty Sean Morley could be brought back and be a main guy...If I had a promotion Id call him instantly to be the main guy on the roster
Please figure out a way to sell this to me so that I may watch it here. And not have to wait for a dvd.
What lawsuit is is he referring to?
I agree people may have been cheering Holly, but at no point were people putting down money for shirts, DVDs, PPVs or buying tickets to see him walk out with a scale in hand.
wwf had tonnes more fans at one point so yeah, i could imagine crash holl in his hardcore angle getting more attention when out than bill goldberg
Depends on the guest how long they go but generally between 90 minutes and 2 hours. Jim Cornette is 4 or so I think + a dvd with lost questions.
I think the lawsuit is the one with the PTC about the deaths of some dumbass kids and the time slot Smackdown! has. And if it isn't that, it's the one after Over the Edge 1999.
Man did he get screwed by the Attitude Era. He's actually a good wrestler who got stuck with a gimmick that could not possibly exist outside the era.
Al Snow really blasted his number on live television
Oh Val, why are you besmirching your body by wearing a Leeds Whinos shirt? ;)
ha ha, dont be like that pal, I noticed the shirt. Im from Leeds.
There is a video of Jake Roberts wrestling in a late 80s Wigan shirt somewhere as well.
"Crash Holly was bigger than Goldberg" LOL ok buddy.
Tim Viper in the year 2000 one could make an argument that crash got a bigger pop and was more over than Goldberg
Ratings wise is what he is talking about.
Its more than likely what Val meant was, as cruiser/hardcore champ, Crash got as much screentime as Goldberg who was the b all & end all of WCW. It was the same at TNA when Corny was GM when the knockouts & X divs got as much airtime as the HWS.
Is there a way to watch the full segment on this year? Or is that it 5 mins each
as far as being over at the time...at one point he was indeed
"At one point, Crash Holly was a bigger star than Bill Goldberg" has to be one of the most fucking ridiculous statements I have ever heard in my life.
What was the deal with his story that ended at 2:15? I thought I heard "Eddie", and it did say "Angle" - obviously, that doesn't mean 100% he's referring to Guerrero and Kurt, but I don't follow this one at all.
Val Venis is freaking AWESOME!!!
Sean Morely is Canadian
OK. Thanks.
And besides, during Crash's biggest push in 2000, Russo had nothing to do with it, he was in WCW at the time.
Cool to see him in a Leeds Rhinos shirt,
what is the lawsuit that he talks about here? I know wwf/e was plagued with them from owens death up to benoit now, what was this one about??
Yep it is.
vince russo did always get everyone on the card in a storyline
The WWF was so over at the time guys like Al freaking Snow was getting pops. Remember his European title gimmick? That guy was hillarious lol
does anybody know if there is existing footage of the dlo droz incident
+eric anthony Only place you could find that is in the WWE database, unless somebody recorded it (Which is unlikely)
While blame rightfully should fall upon the creative department. An equal amount needs to fall upon on Vince, he can stop any angle going through, or tell them to only concentrate on one specific angle. Which does seem like it has been happening as of late. is this sandman ?he looks great caint beleave hes stilll looks like that
Check ratings history. Raw in 99 was averaging 7.0 for the whole year. Raw is now lucky to break 3.0 nowadays, and thats on a good day.
does he talk about terri runnels?
Why's he in a Leeds Rhinos shirt???!!
That was very good.
In a way it's sort of true just in the sense that in 1999 the WWF as a company was WAY more over then WCW, and as Sean said Russo made sure that pretty much everyone on TV meant something and was over in their own right. 1999? So was it Benoit or someone else who worked out two hours?
Looks very good. Can you get Bret Hart for a timeline, early 90's era?
There is, maybe, a little bit of truth to the Crash Holly statement as Bill was on a sinking ship 2 weeks out. I was a WCW Fan. I watched in horror as I had to change the channel every week to stuff like Crash Holly 24/ 7 gimmick

is this val venis?
Such a big star that the company he was in tanked like the Titanic. Yeah, really awesome wrestler he was.
2001 has already been done by irovy
Sean Oliver, Sean Oliver, Seeeaaan Oliver. This one looks like a winner. JeanTheDrunkIYH!
Could not agree more.
crash was never a bigger sell then Goldberg anyways
I definetly agree back in the attitude era Russo was good at getting everyone over, from Bob Holly and Crash to The Godfather, d-lo brown everyone was used and it was great
He said in one point of time

someone please talk about kane !
I think its an exaggeration really. Mr Morely knows this but it works Crash Holly back in the day was a hell of a lot more over than most of the mid card today.
I hope different years as that allows more depth. And please get guys that won't spin the truth to keep in the good graces of the E.
Looks pretty interesting !!

how much do these wrestlers get paid to do this ?
5grand I saw Jamie Dundee get for a youshoot atleast.
Arne Andersen WHO THE FUCK IN THE RIGHT MIND WOULD PAY JAMIE DUNDEE 5 GRAND FOR ANYTHING??? WHO EVEN WOULD BUY A SINGLE COPY OF THAT???
Terry Tate lol. I don't even know who that is so I laughed
Jose Reyes he was one of skinny rappers who rap on way ring with nation of domination in 1997 jc ice wofee dee who were in wwf for a few months with nation of domination faction in 97.
MrDivalover1 oh I remember them I didn't know their names though. thanks. if that's the case then Farooq better ask for 50 grand for a shoot lol.
Holy Shit. Venis has insight who woulda thunk?
Neat! I'm sure the 2000 episode will be horrifying!
