  • Adding the ZWO Electronic Automatic Focus motor to my Askar FRA300 Pro. Also added a clutch so you can operate the focuser by disengaging the EAF. You can pick up the clutch at www.mwdastronom...

Perfect. Just ordered my EAF and 300 pro. And reached out to the chap about the clutch.

Awesome!!! Just remember you will have to add some stand-offs/spacers between the EAF bracket and the FRA300 focuser as I did at the end of the video to get the space to fit the clutch. I also flipped the bottom part of the bracket so it would sit better / flat against the stand-offs.

@@worldofzap Thanks for the tip(s). The clutch showed up; now I just need to wait on the eaf!

Thanks for sharing this video - I'm planning the exact same setup ... quick question - what size standoffs did you require, and where did you acquire them? Amazon, or some specialty store, or somewhere else that you might recommend?

Sorry I missed this, the spacers I found at a local Ace Hardware store in their assorted nuts and bolts drawers. They are 4 to 5 mm tall. You can most certainly find the on Amazon. Example would be
      Swpeet 150Pcs Nylon Round Spacer Standoff Screw Nut Assortment Kit, Nylon PA66 Plastic Standoff OD 11mm and ID 6.2mm Length 3mm 4mm 5mm 8mm 10mm 12mm 15mm 18mm 20mm 25mm for M6 Screws Prototyping a.co/d/esfR8Pj
Although you probably don’t need that many though.

Thanks for the video. I am looking at adding the clutch. Will it work on any refractor? I have the EAF on my ZWO FF107. I may also buy an EAF for my FRA300. Not sure yet.

It should, when ordering just note the shaft size,

are you still using the clutch? wont you have to re-calibrate it after every time you've used the clutch?

Good question, ok so what I have done is mark down the steps it takes to get me close to focus in my field notes. For me that is ~3900 steps from 0. I loosen the clutch and bottom the focus to zero, then tighten the clutch. In the ASIAir I zero the EAF and tell it to go to 3900. I would then start the AutoFocus routine in the ASIAir +.
P.S. this is the same for my ES127 scope but my steps are around 38000 steps with a flattener and 18000 steps with the focal reducer.

The standoff/spacers I used are ~4 to ~5 mm tall. I found them at a local hardware store. You can find similar on Amazon
      Swpeet 150Pcs Nylon Round Spacer Standoff Screw Nut Assortment Kit, Nylon PA66 Plastic Standoff OD 11mm and ID 6.2mm Length 3mm 4mm 5mm 8mm 10mm 12mm 15mm 18mm 20mm 25mm for M6 Screws Prototyping a.co/d/esfR8Pj
Problem is you don’t need 150 of them but maybe you can find something similar. Even a stack of washers or a oversized nut would work.
Thanks for the reply and sorry I didn’t respond earlier.
