*Sidney Poiter moved through this world conveying natural love and honesty. He was comfortable being who he was, and he made us love who he was. With that amazing talent, he was amazingly humble. He made us confront racial barriers and he taught us we are all a part of the same race... the human race. And for that we are forever indebted. To sir with love.*

What I admire about Sidney Poitier is that he succeeded without compromising. He didnt take roles that were unserious or promoted racial stereotypes. He didn't avoid movies that dealt with racism and other tough issues. He succeeded on his own terms.

So sad to hear of his death, one of my favorite all time actors, his roles were dignified, elevating, especially during a time when African-Americans actors were few and far between let alone become major actors/stars but Mr. Poitier did. Just saw " To Sir, with love" that title says it. You saw him not as a 'black' actor but a good actor, will be missed. Condolences to his wife and family.

They say that legends leave us in three. In the last week and a half we have lost three phenomenal legends in our time the first was the legendary John Madden The man who made the NFL what it is today simply by his voice and mannerism the second was legendary Betty White a comedian and actress but more importantly a friend to all of us make her life shine bright through the countless years that she lived on this beautiful earth gracing us with such talent and now we have also lost this wonderful man a man who shared his wisdom a man who shared his life with all of us never dwindling away from the spotlight but instead embracing it and giving us knowledge in the same light

    R.I.P
Don't Weep For Me in Sorrow but in Joy. To have lived and loved anything or anyone or been loved by anything or someone then you were given life's highest reward, the Gift of Love, for to have loved and been loved is no greater achievement. Love is too abundant to count, immeasurably measurless in it's reach, too wise to comprehend and yet infinitely finite in each experience.
I've lived to sip tea with her and eat with her. I've walked and ran with her and sometimes just sat with her. Love wept with me and I with She. We laughed and fought, sometimes parted but always returned. Love loved in every situation whether poor or rich. In our pain or pleasure, disappointments or surprises. Love was loyal even when forgotten, near of far I always felt her heart and She mine. Loved showed up at times as a stranger, other times a friend and every now and then ,she was the enemy that once was. A family member or pet even. I heard her voice in the woo of the morning dove or the purr of a kitten. She sang to me in the melody of a song or spoke to me in the refrain of a poem. She told me many tales of past present and future and I told Her mine. We loss together and won. Our shared suffering only strengthened the bond that tied us. We rose from our ashes like a Phoenix and our chains freed us from our pride and humbled us. Thank you Love for every gaze in your eyes, every kiss and embrace. I got to pass you by and breathe your aroma, hear your voice and taste the fruit of your love.I held you as a baby, maybe I was the baby held. We both gave each other life. If I say goodbye first to you or you to me, it won't matter for our love spans beyond the gap of death. Our Love In any amount is more than any tea cup of one lifetime could hold. My moment with you was an eternity and I am grateful. Don't weep for me in Sorrow but in Joy, for I have tasted Love. We passed in both the light and night of Life.
    - Steven F Gooden -

Years ago (possibly 30), I was working in a hotel where Sidney Poitier & his daughter came to stay. Just them - no entourage. One night, Mr. Poitier called to ask if some potato skins could be sent up to his suite (which included a small kitchen). His daughter wasn't feeling well and he wanted to make her a special potato skin soup to make her feel better. An amazing man in so many ways and he seemed to always remain himself.

My mother would make me and my brothers watch his movies when they were on. She held Sidney Poitier up as a shining example of what a proud black man looked like. Growing up in 1960’s Deep South Mississippi as a child wasn’t easy. l recall my mother talking about “In The Heat Of The Night”, especially the scene in which Sidney slaps the bigoted white plantation owner Endicott after getting slapped first. Unthinkable that a black man would do that in Mississippi and live to tell it. I didn’t understand! All that changed as l got older and experienced racial discrimination firsthand, had fist fights with whites because of my blackness and saw the movie as an adult. “Mama, I fully understand now.” I now remember telling her once. And she knew l got it! Sidney Poitier demanded respect and got it! I’m a fan for life. What a great black man!!!!! Rest well, Sidney….😔🕊

I first saw Sidney Poitier when I was 10 years old.. my sister and I always went to the movies on Saturdays. The main feature was To Sir , with LOVE starring 😂 Sidney Poitier. We were amazed 👏 to see a movie star, that looked like us!! He was a new teacher assigned to students who were unruly, but when it ended, these same students were transformed to... young ladies and respectful young men. We fell in love with Sidney .not only because he was handsome (he really was) but instead, his greatness, dignity, humbleness, intelligence and eloquence. We watched this
    This movie over and over
I have watched every movie Sidney has starred in since then. I still love and always will love MR. SIDNEY POITIER! RIP 🙏🏽 MY HERO AND MY INSPIRATION! MY CONDOLENCES AND PRAYERS TO HIS LOVING FAMILY!!!

The greats are leaving us. 😢

A giant icon, legend and mythological creature of not just cinema but of the XXth century history. This is a big deal! It is as if Chaplin, Brando, Bogie, Clark Gable, John Wayne, Fred Astaire, Jean Harlow, Mae West, either Hepburn, Dietrich , Garbo, Garland or Marilyn Monroe had died.

I remember back when, my mom took me to the movie theater, to see Lillies of the Field.. To this day and beyond, I shall always remember Sidney singing and the one line, "Schmitt, build us a shapplel" ..
This movie..! This man..! Shaped my views for a life time.. I thank and will miss you... O
