The 3 inch tapered "spike" that is driven into the ground holds the stump fairly firmly (like a tennis ball wouldn't deflect it). ofcourse the clay that makes up the pitch is baked and rolled to a hard consistency also for the ball to bounce so well on it. But what groundsmen like to do is water the holes where the stumps go in, making that piece of ground softer and thus allowing the spectacular stumps flying to happen. Occasionally one might break - especially the middle one that has the camera inserted into it.
I water stump holes especially when conditions have been dry for an extended period because I want the stumps to come out fairly easily so as not to damage the hole too much and have loose stumps.

The thing about that Ball is that if you look closely at the Seam direction on the Ball you'll see it was actually supposed to go in other direction. But this is what's called a Reverse Swing, the Ball instead went the opposite direction of its natural inclination & it went sharp too. The Batsman knowing the Seam direction didn't expected the Ball to come inwards & therefore was simply leaving the Ball for which he paid the price. Personally this is my most favourite part of Cricket, watching Stumps getting knocked off Ìi̊Í like that & the sound it makes just sounds like music to me.
These wickets are deeply penettrated in the ground even with strong wind force it cannot be shaken. It is really impressive and a fascinating to watch flying stumps Beauty of the game to be reckoned

The Windies the best team in the 80’s and then Australia ruled the roost in the 90’s as they had an awesome team stacked with some of the best players. most of these guys were bowling at a speed of 145 Kmph + and believe me u have less than one second to respond and its really not easy, thats y its so difficult even for the professionals sometimes to perform wen they r out of touch. Its quite a difficult game, i would say much more difficult than football, tennis. I have tried most of the games but cricket is really really hard.

There was nothing quite like seeing middle stump going for a walk and dragging the camera aerial with it after being hit by a fast delivery. Then they made everything so compact that it all fits inside the stump with loads of LEDs. Still looks amazing but its missing something I feel
