General Tips: As with all bosses, you must focus primarily on evading damage in this fight. Don't worry too much about Overloading (pressing :r2: in middle of weapon reloads), just keep shooting at the boss the entire time. Pistols and the Carbine are best here. Bring a Large Silphium Vial (item) to the fight, one is always found at the very start of 2nd World (Crimson Waste), after you go through the portal from the 1st to 2nd world. Afterward just rush to the boss, you can ignore all enemies along the way. When you've reached the boss for the first time, a portal unlocks where you enter the "foot of the mountain" (end of the desert, to the left of where you enter the building complex). This portal will now be unlocked permanently, so you can skip half the world on each retry to save time. Having a 2nd health item would also be beneficial. The boss can be quite tricky the first few tries, especially his third phase.
Phase 1: He will shoot a lot of orbs at you. Just keep walking around him in big circles. Whenever he moves to a new location he will spray some orbs, but they are slow and don't travel far (don't get hit in the back by them though!). You can evade all his attacks in the first phase just by walking sideways the entire time. If orbs get too close to you, do a short dash sideways.
Phase 2: At the start of the phase he will stand in the middle of the arena and shoots orbs and walls of blue energy at you. Stay as far back as possible, at the edge of the arena. When the blue wall comes towards you, dash through it, then immediately backtrack to the edge of the arena! Repeat this and keep shooting at him until he starts flying again, at this point he always starts by flying in a straight line through the middle of the arena which leaves behind a trail of orbs and 2 walls of blue energy. Dodge through the wall of energy again. He'll repeat this same move a total of 3 times, just run from one side of the arena to the other and keep moving. After he did the same flying attack 3 times in a row he will repeat most of the attacks of Phase 1. There are some slightly different orb variations, but you can again outrun / dodge all of them by just moving sideways the entire time.
Phase 3: This is where it gets tricky. At the start of the 3rd phase he'll do the same thing he did at the start of the 2nd phase. He'll stand in the middle and again shoot orbs and blue energy walls at you, so repeat what you did before. After this he enters a melee phase, he'll stop flying and instead starts jumping at you and tries to deal melee attacks. He will also start casting red rings of energy around him that shoot towards you, particularly after melee attacks. When he's about to do a melee attack, dodge back and immediately jump up in the air ( :l-down: + :circle: , :x: )! This will avoid the red energy rings. He also releases red orbs after his melee attacks, but they don't have much range and are easy to evade by walking/dodging back. Sometimes he will stand still and shoot orbs at you, just walk sideways to evade those. If you've already done the fight a few times, try to perfect the first 2 phases so you don't waste any health items. Keep your health items for the third phase.

After beating this boss, I was so euphoric I thought I'd have a heart attack. My wife even asked me if I was ok lol
I’m currently playing through biome 2 and I reckon if I beat this dude I’ll be doing the caterpillar in celebration!
that was me even on the 1st boss, because it took me a handful of attempts, but like any game like this the more you do it the better you get.. and I like how all the mobs before hand kind of get you ready for the bosses attacks.
I felt the same way…until I got to Biome 3.

The final stage is so much fun! Although luckily I found a parasite that would regenerate my health automatically when it was low, it kept me alive in that last stage. These bosses are rlly fun this game doesn’t disappoint

I can't stress enough how utterly incredible the sound design of this game is. When he starts BOOM-ing around the arena my subwoofer shakes the room so well I feel it in my gut. Returnal is 2021's GOTY as far as I'm concerned.
I made it to this boss and got him to about 1/4 health on phase 3 before I died, these are not my typical games I play, but it's intense and i am having a blast. Props to you PowerPrx!
loved the audio cues boss give you before you shoots himself towards you, loving this game so much! On the final biome
The way they have him hanging in the middle of the stage reminds me of God of War, when you go to fight a Valkyrie

Jesus... after one hit your adrenaline gets reset .. with a pistol.. against ixiom... with minimal health.... that’s impressive
What does max adrenaline actually give you against a boss?
Not much.

Got the game this morning from PS Plus, just beat this guy before quitting.
The first time I fought him I brought a shotgun, which didn’t end well. Then I brought the SMG type weapon and it went much better.
The amount of relief I felt the second attempt when I saw the portal that lets you skip straight to the top of the mountain… so nice.
I found a shotgun with all the right perks to eat through enemies.
I just couldn't bring it into the boss fight as I wanted my combine.
Having the astronaut figurine saved my run and helped me beat him.

My first time getting to him, I had my health up to 200%, had the adrenaline artefact to take you to 5 adrenaline, the astronaut figurine which I ended up using up just before the fight and I had used the replicator in biome 2. Fought him once so far and lost to him on the 2nd round because of panic. I jumped out of the arena twice which messed with my confidence, I accepted defeat before it came. Fortunately I respawned from the replicator with my 200% health so I can return to the fight and go again. It was late so I just used the suspend game feature and I’ll see how I fare when I return to the game tonight.
This game is amazing. This legit one of the best boss I have beaten in any game. Still need to beat the game ( reached the third biome and died again) but it’s really really good so far. Few technical issues but that’s about it ( had one bug where doors wouldn’t open)
You have to use the standard suit, i had the same problem because i switched to the other two. :) If u use the basic suit, you won't get this bug.
@Top Noodle are you sure about that? I've like 30 hrs gameplay time with regular suit and no issues. I'd issues with the doors then as soon as I'd changed!
@Top Noodle wow continuously? I've just finished today and only had one crash the entire run. They've a patch out today which should help things!
The sheer euphoria of beating this boss in a 1 hour 30 min run
I went three hours to max out integrity and it was touch and go in that third phase. The scream of joy when the trophy sound pinged was pretty loud

That third stage nearly ruined a 3hr run. His dash and immediate red ring expanding move keep catching me. Great fight though.
Yeah I took 80% of my damage from the red ring its really fast

As with most bosses (and enemies) in this game: KEEP YOUR DISTANCE. The closer you are, the harder it is to react.
beat him first try but god...almost dead, had a astronaut, and a large recovery item and still barley beat....and this is the 2nd boss.
one of the best bosses in video-games. some of the visuals are amazing.

I'm a fool, I fell for one of the classic Soulsborne blunders! The most famous of which is "Never grind when you're supposed to git gud"
Hahah yeah... I thought you are supposed to grind up .... no its just GIT GUD xD I am stuck at this boss now xD and gonna retry like this xD
I did grind though: walked through every nook and cranny to get two full health kits and 1 shield, saved them up until his crazy ass phase 3 then killed him while using those items.

Beat this guy tonight -- had a parasite that was +25% gun damage and speed for the next 15 kills (malignancy on detach), and another one that healed me at low health. He almost had me -- second try!

Bought it today, went through the first biome and was killed 2 times by this boss. I didn’t do much damage and I have problems to read him but went always third phase....let’s see tomorrow....

I finished that boss an hour ago.
It was a bit easier for me due to my huge health bar and level 9 weapon.
Even though that at the 3rd phase i was at like 2% health.

@@mattsmith1982 I finally beat him Tuesday the key is to get the astronaut and use the long rifle gun type with 100 rounds make sure efficacy is to lvl 6 or more
Well, have to say, first boss was pain in my ass, but I did kill this on my first try, had lvl 8 weapon & 200 % proficiency. That game is no so difficult later...
Why is it doing so little damage to you? I had 240% and every hit was like a third of that.

This one took me one try with a level 9 driver. First boss took me over 6 hours of runs. This one is much easier

A decent Hollowseeker gun, so now it's my time to try after this.
Can't believe I didn't get into this game when it came out.
To my surprise I beat him 1st try. That's rather unusual for me, I'm almost always too stupid and nervous for boss fights. Took me several tries for Phrike.
1.Ixion • hardest boss lol , had every move in his arsenal.. A real pain.
2. Nemesis • only difficult too dodge beams.
3. Hyperion • kind of easy.
4.Phrike • only hard if you can’t don’t his melee in time.
5.Ophion • Lol was weirdly easy.
If Doom (2016) and Control had a child...

@@jriibzmodus4792 Probably because enemies shots works very similiar to Doom and TPP, moving fast and jumping is similiar to Control

When i fought this guy some of his bullets are red? And you made it this far with only 5 weapon proficiency and no health upgrades. This vid is super sus.
I beat him and then jumped off the arena trying to doge his last attack before I killed him. Apparently I have to start over and kill him again. :(

I just did this fight for the first time, just a few minutes ago - it was somehow easier than the first boss. I died once to that one. I was able to put this one down fast. It was a very fast and chaotic fight, and I did get hit a few times near the end, just with having to time the dashes correctly with the walls and orbs coming at you. On to the next biome now!
This boss is way harder than the first boss. You’re just way better at the game and leveled up more.
I got him first try and then died to fall damage because I didn’t press the grapple hook button correctly lmao

This boss is easy if you can find a hollow seeker with void beam, melts him in seconds
this boss is not that hard because he doesnt deal much dmg, what is hard is getting the way up to him, you dont wanna just skip all and go straight to the portal for him because you will have a very weak weapon and bad modifiers,
The pistol is good enough. You need at least one health potion.

I beat all 3 bosses in 45 mins. They're really easy, if you know how to dodge. For act 2, it take 30 mins. Hollow seeker or electron driver.

Tip: Avoid parasites unless absolutely necessary or only if the trade off is good. Same goes for malignant items. Also you can phase through most attacks and lasers when dashing, they only hit you when you're staying still or not dashing
Is there a difference between blue and red bullets or it's just for the cool looks?
Blue you can strafe threw, Red orbs you have move out the way
In my opinion, he is easier than Nemesis (Third boss) and Hyperion (Fourth boss).

Weapon proficiency - 5 is pretty low for this boss so I’m glad it can be done at this level. Just means the fight lasts longer as you deal less damage.

I beat this guy on my first try and I was so shaky afterwards. That last phase almost ruined my run. After I beat him I went all the way on to nemesis and died on his last phase. I haven’t been able to get that far again since 😂

Congratulations! Huh, I killed him at my first try.. Also at my first run on the 2nd Biome.. Tip: try to get the Electopylon Driver weapon: you don't have to focus on shoot him all the time, so you can focus on the defense.

Died on the last phase on my first attempt today. Not very hard but yeh doable. Just need to dodge well in the final phase.
I had a much harder time w 1st boss then second. Took like 10 attempts w 1st boss and 2nd try w 2nd

Is there a way to Teleport from the First world to the Other worlds? When you die
What's nice is once you've reached the summit, there will be a shortcut portal made available at the bottom so ya don't have to climb it again should you die or need to go back for something. I would suggest restocking your consumables before the boss. As you can see, this fight is quite the onslaught even if you get the dodge down.

@@S4_QUATTROPOWER not the generic telephoto portal. Do u know the gateway from the first stage to the desert stage? There is a portal like that one in the second stage if u reached the boss lv. It'll take u right back to the boss.
