    Joe Perry plays guitar like he’s having a conversation with the instrument. It’s laidback. It’s lyrical. And he listens to everyone else in the band. He’s a teammate. That’s what I learned the most from studying his guitar playing.

      This might be controversial but I was asked once who's the greatest guitarist ever. The people were assuming I'd say Jimi Hendrix, or Stevie Ray Vaughn or someone like that. Nope. I said Joe Perry without hesitation. Nothing against those other guys. They were great, but Joe still is great. He's been great for 50 years!

      Nope. Back in the '70s all the guys wanted to be Joe Perry. Everyone realized that being Steven Tyler would require too much work on a minute-by-minute basis. Being Joe Perry meant that you can just stand there and own the room.
      Everyone who straps on a guitar wants to be Joe Perry. They may want to play like Hendrix, or Van Halen, or Clapton, or Beck, or Malmsteen, or whomever, but they want to *be* Joe Perry.

    I think I found Aerosmith's legendary " sound". Whenever I feed my cat dinner, she's so excited she's running by my feet. 99 percent of the time, I'm able to deftly move out of her way. Last night, however, I stepped on her by accident. She wasn't really hurt, but the cry she let out made me realize that it essentially was the Aerosmith " sound".

    • @Riff5150

      That’s my opinion too. It’s also my favorite of theirs followed by their debut album

    • @SahiraSound
      @SahiraSound ปีที่แล้ว

      Seriously! Get your wings was phenomenal for so many reasons. Although songs like same old song and dance got all the love, for me it was the dynamism in songs like Lord of the thighs and spaced that really shone. Most people don't know this, but it was Brad whitford that pulled the lead on those two songs, he was doing some guitar work that still echoes through my mind today, he had some seriously tasty licks in there with what I would call the best Jeff Beck influences I've ever heard. His scales and tremolo work were just superb!
      And then of course, songs like Woman of the World really allowed Steven to stretch out lyrically, and I feel like Aerosmith really defined their sound with Seasons of Wither and then nailed it down with Pandora's Box.
      Although I loved all of Aerosmith's first generation work, Get Your Wings will always be special to me because it's where they found their voice.

    Would of been awesome if Joey Diaz was there too, he really likes Aerosmith.

    Sounds like his struggling to get a breath in but has a unreal voice.

    "I love that your name is Joe."
    Cue train off the tracks.
    On another note, I can't believe he's 70 here. I'd love to have that energy at 70...sober.

    Did he just say that at one point, Joe Perry was sitting on a flaming couch, playing a riff in his sleep?

    It's funny because when I first listened to Aerosmith in 1984, I thought they were black. I had cassettes of Toys in the Attic and Greatest Hits. And they were pretty much MIA at that time, so no pictures anywhere. And there was no Internet at that time. So, after hearing Steven say that, he did indeed sound "black."
