Rich Little was a Fabulous comedian, The Best Impressionist. Now, I admire him for "going on with the show" under almost impossible conditions!! What a man, what a gentleman, what a great Professional!!!
Little was spot on. Unfortunately, 90% of the audience were either too ignorant to know, or too young to remember, anyone he was impersonating! Many probably didn't even know what an impersonator is.

He was great, the audience however seem to require the humor to be explained to them. I guess if it is clean and fun and not in your face they don't get it.
That was good!!! He came to that event to try to bring out the best in those people.... He definitely tried his best after the tragic incident at Virginia Tech just a few days before... Nerves of steel and great courage to see him perform up there...
au contrere. His impersonations were off, he used inappropriate language for that venue, puerile "jokes". He looked much older from combing his hair straight back. He kinda blew this one. I don't understand why he didn't plan this one better.
Rich Little tended to bomb a bit more, in his day, than other comic/impressionists, and he got steadily more so with age. This is not a crowd that came to see an act. Note that I say _tended_ and _bit._ But even with a good crowd, such as Dean Martin's roasts, he would have roughly 50% knockout streaks (Carson, Benny, Burns, Rickles, etc.), 30% funny, and 10% meh... and 10% omg, dead-air. And he knew it. This _is_ a tough house, and his stuff had too much air out of the tires. No, it wasn't great.
watchgoose Pretty much agree. He really didn't tailor his act to his audience. This wasn't Vegas, these are people in a politically edgy venue, who are uncertain about just _what_ is safe to laugh about. Rich recognized this in his low-key introduction where he did well to put everyone at ease, including Mr. Bush. But, having removed all even _perceivable_ barbs, he got mired in low-brow humor that would have played well on the Carson show, etc. He did have some considerable moments of brilliance, Reagan was spot on, but then Bush&Clinton went off the rails, Carter and the nuts-joke, though? What were you thinking, Rich? It was also too long.
K Kr definitely...He had no chance to make them see how very funny he is. I feel like bush should have Introduced him then when thanking him explain why he couldn't do it.
John Kidd not true. This is always a tough crowd. Uneasy, prickly, sensitive. Partly because there is a President sitting up there and power all around them.
Wow, that crowd has no business getting exposed to any comedy routine...way too stuck on themselves. RL did do it his way which the audience can’t relate to, but worse than that they were arrogant...what a bunch of snobs.
Why so many dislikes on this video? Rich's material is good. I think some of you TH-cam trolls will just dislike anything that includes President George W. Bush.
I don't know if Rich's timing was off, or if it was the pall of the Virginia Tech shooting, or a combination of the two that threw off most of his act, but his Nixon was hilarious, and made the whole thing worth watching. Now that he's older, he actually looks more like Nixon as he impersonates him. It was great! 8-) I definitely got more laughs out of this half hour than I could from most all the junk they put on TV today. Thumbs up from me.
Bush's mention of the 'Shooting', put the dampers on it. How could he expect anybody to follow that. A SPOT LIGHT on Rich would have helped somewhat I beleive. ( Englishman )
@BeingRomans829ed: DEFINITELY WASN'T Rich! His timing is just as tight as ever! When you're playing to a crowd of stuffed shirts, stiffs, and storefront mannequins, most everything is a good bet to fall flat on its ass.
For years-the legendary, multi-talented, multi-faceted comedic impressionist Rich Little did EXCELLENT impressions of Ronald Reagan, Jimmy Stewart, Richard Nixon, George W. Bush, Cary Grant, among MANY others! Additionally-I had the pleasure and enjoyment of seeing Rich LIVE in an outdoor concert at the Alemeda County Fair-in Pleasanton, California-in July of 1994. In addition to the aforementioned impressions-he and his female comedic partner did an EXCELLENT routine portraying the legendary husband & wife comedy team of George Burns and Gracie Allen! Rich could do it ALL- vocal impressions; vocal inflection, and physical mannerisms. Incidentally-several years later-Rich and his comedic female partner fell in love and got married! How nice! :)
Well he was perfoming an act created for a 1970s audience. The 2007 crowd does not have the same sense of humor. Also, his voice has aged too much. He no longer has the vocal strength required to make some of the key voices like Johnny Carson sound authentic.
Rich did a great show....trying to entertain a dull half-responsive audience....guess you can't make some people laugh or lighten up....he is undoubtedly one of the greatest (if not THE Greatest) impressionists ever.....gives me one more reason to be proud to be a Canadian !!
"I think that a society that can poke fun at its political leaders is a confident society and a free society." I was never much a fan of George W but these were words well spoken. Remember when we used to laugh at comedians and took out politicians seriously?

Tough room!!! Rich Little is a genius. Think his political impressions (which were great) was touching nerves, so he might have been better off doing only non-political impressions. That said, loved his incredible performance (even though it falls flat with the assembled audience - can't believe at points no one gets the jokes - scary if this the top-level of the USA brains trust). Found it interesting that George W, was open enough to be lampooned, along with his Dad. Could a comedian get away with this in every other country on our planet? Maybe democracy is actually a good thing.
