Surprised to see so many negative comments on such a positive athlete…we should be grateful to have a Mr. Olympia that is so involved in the sport
People are jealous because the top bodybuilders--and every other professional athlete--are in the top 1 percent of the population. 99 percent did not make it and never will. Derek is an awesome person who is promoting the sport so well. Good for him!
Your comment demonstrates exactly why he won. It wasn't his physique. Pure politics. They gave it to him because he's american and better able to promote the sport. For sure, he seems a nice, positive guy but physique wise, he's the worst Mr Olympia I've ever seen.

I think Derek hit it on the head, he conducts himself like Flex would've, and i think that's what i like about this guy.
I'm not the biggest fan of this physique overall (preference, not denying his greatness), but this guy wins me over with his conduct. 100%

Most people are just shocked that the guy with the smallest quads and lats with fluid like lumps on both sides won Mr Olympia, but I deff see ur point. No need for hate. He did have shredded glutes and hype so judges like that.

Milos, Banout, Aceto, Palumbo, Yates, and others all said that Hadi was winning, but the judges see it differently because they want someone who will promote bodybuilding better than Hadi. It’s true that Hadi won and then went back to his country without engaging in exhibitions or promotions throughout the year, so I agree with them. Look at Derek, who travels all over the world and brings more people to the sport.
Also Heath and Ronnie thought Hadi won.

I disagree. Right now we have a guy like Behrouz who is arguable a top 6 Olympian if he can compete and many others who say Hadi was their inspiration. Derek will never be the inspiration for someone from outside of America because they can't relate to him. He's just better to sell supplements with. But the promoters don't understand the global scale of things in modern era. Now guys from all over the world can be marketable

That seems harsh. I think it’s fair to say we haven’t had dominant champs since Phil, Jay, Ronnie, Dorian and Lee. But I put Derek on par with Curry, Hadi, Ramy and Shawn. Outside of Shawn, Derek beat the rest to get the title so they are all at a comparable level during this current period in the sport. It will take something undeniable like a razor sharp Samson or Rubiel to break through and take it for a run. Derek is good but I don’t see him as that guy.

What derek refers to, is essentially how the judges make their decision as to who places where. By talking to each other about how this athlete needs to bring their back, legs or whatever up, versus this person, etc. Is it negative? Thats too subjective to say in a general statement. However, Derek, if u read this, thats the competition, homie. Judging and comparing. Please dont say its negative for anyone else to make compairisons when it's how every Olympian has ever become an Olympian, via judging and comparing.
