Fun Fact: Sans's stats are 1 attack and 1 defence. He's easily the weakest character in the game.
Edit: So apparently some people don't know: This is the text you get when you examine Sans. The fact that he's technically classified weak but still the strongest in the game is the whole point of the joke.
Edit 2: So apparently, even two years later, people still haven't figured that I made the edit so people could STOP EXPLAINING TO ME HOW SANS IS STRONG!! I KNOW ALREADY! I'm just leaving a fun reference to one of the game's jokes, stop telling me stuff I already know!

I was watching confused because even if they were surprised, I'd have thought they'd at least use what they had learned prior to try and live but I'm not great at real time games cause I'm easily distracted so I can't fault them

Every other fight had you with the initiative to attack first (which means you chill in the menu before you have to dodge anything) so most of them were metaphorically caught with their pants down, fingers not in position to dodge and being baffled both by being attacked first and Sans's already deadly and fast series of attacks.
Basically how every regular monster shmuck felt facing us.
