The whole episode judges Rose but I bet she, at least, tried to apologize for her accident (and it wasn't intentional) and even refused to use her destructive powers afterward. Steven screamed directly at Pearl and P.Pearl and never apologized.

Rose never used these powers again and I can only think of one reason why - she felt awful using that power at that moment.

Yellow and Blue were (most likely) made by White, so It would make sense in their case, but where the hell did White come from? Morality when it comes to hurting animals is just an extension of how humans feel empathy towards other humans, though to insects and some animals people don't even do that, and not everyone agrees on not hurting animals, and if not taught that, even less people, colonization is not bad, they need it to survive too. Killing random gems is a waste of workforce and effort though, it's just like that because _allegory good_ it is the only evil thing, but only if you use the general human standard that hurting someone for no reason is bad ("...though to insects and some animals..." doesn't count to planets being colonized including earth)
Honestly, if this is where they wanted to go it should have been addressed or atleast built up better in the original series...you don't go from "forgiving genocidal maniacs because they're so sad" to "well now I'm a genocidal maniac because I'm sooo sad, please love me" without just looking like a massive a hole
I wanted to see Steven do absolutely nothing, not leave his bed, not take care of himself to the point where the gems absolutely have to drag him to therapy.
That idea gave me the image of one of the gems(probably Garnet or Bismuth) carefully carrying Steven to therapy. That would've been so god damn soft but instead we got angst and a time skip.

Lapis= blamed everything on everyone else (in some ways rightfully in others not so). Yeah she thought she was bad but she justified her actions like her abusing jasper. People hurt me so I should hurt them. Later she realized how horrible she was for doing that and with the help of Steven and peridot changed. Blue=just fucking depressed couldn't admit to her own faults and didn't feel like a monster but wanted everyone else to be miserable. Steven=He trys to be Jesus so doing something that not even Pink diamond did and goes against everything that he has fought for made him feel like a literal monster because its going against his true being of being a good guy. He is but he shouldn't try to be perfect because he can't and everyone has the ability to be awful.

steven wasn’t corrupted. his form reacts to his mental and emotional state. on so many birthdays (if that’s the correct name of the episode) he turns old cuz he feels old. he turned into a monster cuz he viewed himself as such. just trying to establish that he wasn’t actually corrupted cuz everyone thought he was.
The treatment of Spinel’s character physically repulsed me. I fell in love with her in the movie and it felt like they just threw away all of the mature parts of her character and reverted her back to “old Spinel” but not even a very likable(?) version of her.
What would’ve been better is if she’s trying to be happy so that she doesn’t upset the Diamonds, but when she sees that Steven’s going through something she tries to understand what exactly is going on. Or even make her act more mature, like more like a teenager and not a hyperactive child.
okay honestly i didn't even know that Steven was supposed to have PTSD and depression, i thought he was just going insane. really goes to show how badly they portrayed PTSD and depression.
They literally made an entire episode dedicated to Steven going to the doctor, learning that he hasn't recovered mentally from all of the trauma he faced.
I had a fiancé who had a similar situation. She had a lot of trauma built up from her childhood and it all sort of came back and drove her crazy. It's a fucked up situation surrounding yourself around that

Going through a lot and later feeling bad because of it doesn't necessarily mean someone has PTSD and Steven certainly doesn't have it (if anything I'd argue he has BPD). Plus she couldn't diagnose Steven, she's a pediatrician not a psychiatrist
It hurts that EVERY character could have been better, like the 2 lapiz, what happened to the other lapiz that didn't go to Little Home school?? Or the 3 rose quartz? What happened to the one that was exactly like Steven's mom? White Diamond would have been an amazing antagonist staying like her old form! And the show actually seems to teach that consequences doesn't exist, all the evil and cruel actions the characters made were basically discarded.

Plus, there's also some scenes in the episode where they genuinely try and do prone restraint on corrupted steven... which can cause SOOO much more harm than good and make things 10 times worse in real life

As another person with PTSD- I really cant watch how PP broke down in the reef. Its honestly the only realish portrayal of how it feels to have a flash back and break down. But the fact that they glossed over it and made her happy and healed 20mins later is messed up. Wish it was as easy as talking to someone and holding their hand.

The show went from "cute concept can't wait to see what's next!" to "uh oh now we're serious." to "ok the show's on fire but maybe it'll be fixed in the epilogue" to "crewnivurse that was gasoline not water."
Depression is much more likely to make someone hide under the covers & oversleep than attack someone else or use deadly force defending themselves from an attacker.
I mean there's nothing wrong with that because that's the tone of the show but Steven universe is different and Steven universe future tone changed too much during the finale the diamond and spinel were crying and were we supposed to laugh at that? And overall the show is rushed there's so many character that deserves more screen time and development but nope they just ended it with a hug
@Squidward exactly. It was such a short line that I didn't even hear that Steven was going to a therapist. They really should have showed it, it would've made the resolution stronger. Whereas they show him falling apart for 20 episodes and then "k he's going to therapy now" in an easily missbale line at the end.
Advice to writers: Don't treat mental illnesses as a problem you have to "solve" or "fix". Imagine it like a physical disability. You can't just have the kid in the wheelchair miraculously walk and call that a valuable lesson for the audience. It's not something you cure. It's something you cope with. It shouldn't just disappear by the end of the story, rather you can show how your characters learn to deal with it in a healthy way and accept it as a part of their reality. Especially by finding a good support system. Also implying you *need* other people’s love to get better will only amplify feelings of hopelessness in the audience members that lack supportive friends and family. (I speak from experience) P.S. Imagine if they fully utilized both Spinel and Jasper to help Steven go on his emotional journey. Jasper as the emotionally constipated one that could work through her issues along side him (and occasional lead him in the wrong direction because of her stubbornness) and Spinel as the good influence who helps Steven by showing him how to love himself the same way he taught her. (Since Steven is good at helping others and not himself I think that would be great coming from Spinel specifically.) They could also switch with Spinel giving bad advice over certain things and Jasper giving good advice on things. Like Spinel might have suggested immediately proposing to Connie to keep her from leaving because she is paranoid when it comes to being abandoned, but Jasper would teach him about confidence, inner strength and the importance of independence. Then those 2 characters could have a point and actually complete their character arcs. And let's be honest we didn't need to see bluebird or those two lapises AND NO STUPID GODZILLA MONSTER.
Can we fire Sugar and retcon her piss poor stuff and just have you write this? I'd rather see this season than what we got. This is genuinely an excellent way to utilize two very broken characters and help them grow and become better, as well as show how one actually tackles mental health issues, such as abandonment issues and anger problems.
Cactus episode was real shit i was cringing at steven, the gems didnt point out that he was being rude. The 2 lapises are confusing, the one who changed was never seen again, and it will be nice if they are given differnt names added to lapis, instead of just lapis. The godzilla ep makes no sense in general, trauma cannot be solved by hugging, and show the therapy sessions pls. But executives say limited ep... soooo skipped. I still hate how they handled Homeworld in this series. The only glimpses we ever got to see of it were during the second to last episode and it wasn't even for anything useful. The fact that the show has never had some type of creation story for the germs is also mind-boggling to me, you would think in a show centered around lore and world-building that some type of creationist story (whether mythological or not) would be mentioned at some point. When you think about it there's still so much about the gems that we don't know (who made the diamonds, why was the caste system the way it was, why was Pink Diamond so much smaller and weaker than the others (if she was made at a later time then what prompted them to make her in the first place), what was everyday society like in Homeworld, etc.) Steven Universe: Future would have been the perfect opportunity to explore stuff like this since it's supposed to be an epilogue but it's just...never mentioned. And I really don't understand why. One of the big reasons why people like this show so much is because of the lore and the world-building, and yet none of that is expanded or explored in SUF. 95% of the scenes in SUF either take place in the temple, Little Homeworld or the beach. I would have even liked an episode of the Diamonds just telling Steven more memories about Pink that they had, teaching him more things about Gem history and culture, etc. Personally, I would have found that to be more interesting than 10 more minutes of Steven crying and getting mad at people.

tbh I would love to see an original miniseries centering on life on Homeworld in all of the eras. We'd get to see the ranks of different gems, how people on Homeworld react to certain things, just a lot of things that would make you go "Ohhh, so that's why (blank) happened!".

I love the show because the idea is so great of how the gems work and everything. But there isn't enough focus on the gems themselves and there isn't enough focus on Homeworld and how things are going over there. It really could've been a great show with the idea that the show had but it ended up not meeting expectations. Still a good show, would watch, but it could've been SO much better.

I'm just disappointed that the Diamonds never got any flak for the atrocities they've committed across the universe. I thought there would be some kind of arc about an alien rebellion made up of refugees from the planets the Diamonds conquered, coming to Earth and either creating a new life for themselves, or plotting on way to seek vengeance against the ones who have wronged them. But what we got way nothing short of a disappointing mess of a finale.

Call me crazy but I was imagining that the series would end with a new antagonist diamond named black diamond (the creator of all gems/White diamond) she figures out that homeworld is out of line And not colonizing planets anymore and she ends up destroying all the gems to restart her creation and make them less flawfull. and no matter how much Steven and the Crystal gems try to redeem her she can not be redeemed like every other antagonist was, which makes Steven go crazy and get corrupted because hes so frustrated that he can’t redeem her and fix everything. The Stevenzilla looked powerful af so I’d imagine they end up fighting or something lol

I'd also like to add, Steven's PTSD and depression is apparently an excuse for him to be violent and physically and emotionally abusive. (When he lashes out at the people who try to help him, screamed at Volleyball, harmed Jaspar, the cactus, almost hurt Connie and her mom, etc.). He doesn't face any consequences for his actions. As somebody who has PTSD, anxiety, and depression for several years, I can say that having a mental illness is no damn excuse for hurting other people--no matter how "sad" they are. It was not only out of character for Steven to have been like that, it's awful, tasteless and dangerous.

Agreed. In real life, even if someone has a mental illness, they would realistically face heavy consequences for assaulting and murdering someone. But at the end, everyone still see's him as a Jesus equivalent for a character. I was hoping the gems would tell Steven in a firm manner that what he's done is horrible, but because he has depression and ptsd, it's apparently an A-ok excuse for his outbursts.

As a fan of Steven Universe,the ending was disappointing. So much left unanswered and that last episode was so off. As someone who liked the Corrupted Steven theory,seeing Corrupted Steven do nothing was super disappointing.

As a persona who suffered from severe depresion and anxiety. I think the decission of Steven go ALONE in a discovery trip FAR FROM HIS SUPPORT CIRCLE was the absolutele worst way to solve the things. Also Pink Diamond didnt shatter anyone, Steven did. And there where no consecuentes for it.

This is an unpopular opinion that might get me attacked but Steven was such an annoying character after the first 2 seasons, he went from a wholesome boy to a guy who just screams at everyone and argues that everyone should just stop fighting despite it being a literal war
I had that opinion around the time peridot went to live with the gems, I even dropped the show once I noticed where it was heading to. I spent a while feeling estranged basically seeing everyone praising the direction. It just interesting how the older the fans get the more their opinion change
Remember that one time Pink Pearls PTSD was completely glossed over and almost romanticized for a gimmick? The scene itself of Pink pearl curling up in a ball shaking is the only accurate part of having a PTSD related flash back/antiexy attack. Its not somthing you "get over" by holding a friends hand.
@Better Now, Steven didn't "Get over" his PTSD with a hug. Literally the only thing the hug did was remind him that others are there for him. That's it.

SU was better when Rose Quartz wasn't Pink Diamond. It's been surely dead to me after everyone forgave three space Hitlers. New gem fusions are always cool to see, though.

Things I hated about Steven Universe Future as a whole: - Lapis Lazuli: the show never brings up how she's been so awful so Peridot, and there's never any repercussions for her taking away the Barn and everything Peridot cared about. - The Diamonds: Again, there's no repercussions for what they've done. They've destroyed millions of life forms, forced countless of gems into fusing. Abused one of their own, even if it was unintended, abuse is abuse, no matter what light you put it under. Yet, the show never gives them any consequences. - White Diamond: I was so excited to see her in Change Your Mind. I was looking forward to seeing this Diamond of all Diamonds being the villain that Steven simply couldn't redeem. She took out his gemstone, nearly killing him, mind controlled the Crystal Gems and other Diamonds. Then Steven just says, "No U" , and then suddenly she's off colour and immediately does a 180 in her character.

It would have been better if after Steven tries to redeem her, White Diamond just laughs in his face, telling him " you know, I appreciate you for trying, but..... You can't redeem someone that doesn't want to be redeemed, boy" And Steven has to accept the fact that some people can't be redeemed.
Pink Diamond/Rose Quartz: a redeemed character who learned to be a better person is used as a scapegoat for being evil and the root of all problems with Steven not even forgiving her/possibly disowning her by hiding her picture away 😢
Pink Diamond, to me, was one of the MOST INTERESTING characters to ever be on the show (other than Peridot). They portrayed her development backward but it's the most realistic development compared to EVERY OTHER damn character in this fucking show. She started off as a brat, neglectful, whiny, powerless, "defective", and childish Diamond. And yet, as the original show went on, we got to see the points of when Pink Diamond soon came to realize that, ever since she's been given the earth and moon to colonize and create more gems, she's simply hurting the organic lifeforms rather than making gems pop out of thin air (what she originally thought). Since then, she's been trying to better herself as a person/diamond without ANYONE telling her to! Yes, there were a few sacrifices to be made (leaving Spinel, hurting her original pearl, being a rebel with her pearl, and ending her life as Pink Diamond to live as Rose Quartz), but honestly, that's what makes her more real. Showing that, yes, even though she's bettering herself, it doesn't mean she'll become a saint and only do good. By the time the war was over, Pink has only learned to love and play with the organic life on earth and didn't really care about them personally. And I think people don't give Greg more credit since if it weren't for him, Pink would continue with that mindset and treat the humans like "toys". At the end of her life, Pink became a better person. Is she a saint? Far from it, but that's what makes her such a compelling character. And what angers me is that the show uses her, and ONLY her, as the root of all problems when: - Yellow Diamond tried to destroy the earth - Blue Diamond locked Steven and Connie in a cell with them having DAYS of not eating - White Diamond LITERALLY PULLING STEVEN'S GEM OUT AND LEAVING HIM TO DIE - Lapis almost drowning both Connie and Steven + taking earth's ocean - Jasper literally wanting to murder Steven for the whole time she's on screen - Pearl letting Steven die in "Rose's Scabbard" - Steven being a piece of SHIT and playing the victim when he's JUST AS GUILTY But Pink's the bad guy?! This shit makes me so fucking angry cause it's such a bullshit writing choice. I genuinely thought that Future would touch more on Steven's and Pink's relationship because it appears that he genuinely hates her and despises anyone who mentions her. I didn't want an ending where Steven wanted to forget Pink and pretend she never existed, no, I wanted an ending where Steven accepts that Pink wasn't the best, but she TRIED. She saved the earth, went against dictators, cried and healed those who got hurt, tried to understand humans, and what did she get in the end? Shit. Nothing but shit. This fucking show angers me so much and I will forever hate it. They ruin good characters and I hate it
I feel you on this. I didn't realize it at first because the show works really hard to make you hate pink diamond, but her character arc is revealed in reverse. If you put Pink's character arc in chronological order she is a great character who learned all about how bad she was, and made great sacrifices to change for the better. Yes it involved severing ties with her family, taking a new name and new look, but honestly considering no one else was allowing her to change these all make sense. The info-bomb that rose is pink creates an endless downward spiral of how horrible "my mom" is with Steven but the reality is "my mom" grew up and moved out and her abusive family lashed out at her for it. Literally none of the corrupted gems, the cluster, the war or anything was her fault. Those were her consequences for deciding to not be the next tyrant diamond.
I've been thinking about this for a long time. Didn't Pink try to be a better person near the end of her life? Why do we have to end on such a sour note for her??
I just love when you even dare to say anything about Steven, most of the Fandom goes: "Hey! It's not fair to hate Steven! He has PTSD and he's a teenager! It's all because of the Gems and Greg!! How dAre you!!!"
You know this makes me think these people looked on tumblr or some shit for their mental health research. Because this isn't how people with PTSD act, this isn't how people with depression act. And you see these fakers go the extreme to mimic their show. Like you see some comments on "Steven is so relatable I have PTSD and I feel this way too" and I'm like. Do you really now? Same way 13 Reasons Why pushed a wave of people wanting depression and suicidal. I'm not saying it is a direct comparison, but the way impressionable children take the mental health aspect away from the show is the same amount of damaging to the people with legitimate issues that the show "covers." Like dear, killing people isn't okay. Wanting to kill isn't okay. We already have enough people saying that they want to for attention on the internet we do not need to encourage this action with shows and such.
One thing that annoyed the hell out of me was how Steven was constantly victimized. He went through a lot of shit, sure, but everyone needed to solve his problems at the end. He did a lot of scummy shit during this whole series and refused to accept other people changing and needed them to make resolve surrounding him. At the end when Connie says "We needed Steven this whole time, now he needs us" or something like that- He refused to ask for help, he bottled everything up, he acted recklessly, he hid things- You can't tell your audience that that's okay and people can just read your mind and solves your problems for you.
Biggest thing about helping someone with a mental illness: You can only help them as much as they allow _themselves_ to be helped and you are NOT their therapist.
100% THIS! This show attempted to portray a person suffering from mental illness struggling to ask for help, but instead showed Steven pushing people away, acting unfairly rude, and disrespecting and exploding on anyone who tries to help him. It upsets me how people are looking at this show as great representation for mental illness when other shows do a much better job
I would say he was literally portrayed as Rose Quartz. She hid things,acted recklessly and basically botteled up her feelings so this show kinda portrayed Steven as his mother wich is something he really didnt want but like eh? I didnt like that the finale is a tear jerker and i fully 100% agree with this review

The biggest problem I have with the “new diamond powers” is that all the powers make sense in how they were reversed except steven’s. He goes from having healing powers to having destructive powers which makes sense, but the show has no clue what destructive means! Instead of making things break or decay (the opposite of heal) Steven gets a speed boost, super strength, can slow time, etc. He gets all of these “destructive” powers, meanwhile the other, presumably stronger diamonds, only get the one power.
And what's the excuse for that, that I hear from People? "Oh he trained and used his Powers more creatively than the Diamonds." That doesn't explain the Super-Speed and Time Freeze! None of the other Diamonds had that, and it doesn't fit in with his other Powers!

It isn't *exactly* a Time Freeze, but it's the best Description I could come up with. Being fast is one thing, but moving so fast that Time slows down for you? That's a bit too much.

This show was my thing back in the day, before season 4. I fell out of love with it when I realized how it portrayed PTSD sufferers as being insufferable assholes who never have to apologize. I have PTSD, and while I know everyone displays it differently, Lapis and Steven were just wildly incorrect and insulting depictions of survivors. Mental illness can explain behaviors, but never excuses them. I hated how Lapis was excused for legitimate abuse towards Jasper (because they were both in the wrong) and I’m especially glad I dropped this show at the season 5 finale because I would’ve felt awful about myself watching Steven act like a complete toxic tool to everyone around him and have it be explained as just what people with my disease are like.

You can't hide all of that and say lapis was the "victim" there.

Not at all, Jasper kidnapped her and was bringing her back to homeworld against her will, Jasper was the literal villain here do not say the kidnapped victim was being worse. She did not violate Jasper she just trapped them both in a cell together so the others could escape, that doesn't sound worse or more abusive then kidnapping someone and bringing them to where you want them to be. Jasper wasn't r*ped and what Lapis went through was still pretty bad. But it was also done to save Steven and the others so it was not all bad. But she WAS the victim.
The one scene I unapologetically loved in this series is when he is speaking with Dr. Mahaswaran. Ignoring the stupid pink glowing and swelling, Dr. mahaswaran focuses on the literal scars steven's previous experiences have left and how even when he quickly healed them they healed incorrectly. That is the closest I have ever felt this seires came to discussing mental health correctly.

If he realized after what he had done, i thikn his descent would have flowed better, and that being something that almost makes him snap. What bothers me most is that the show is just so, so inconsistent. I'm starting to think that they're incapable of depicting something as a "turning point" rather then a "conclusion." It's like with Pearl, she has to "get over Rose" every other season, and I'm like... "The way you addressed it last time made it seem as though it was over, but now you're bringing it up again, so it obviously wasn't over?" It makes the writing seem inconsistent, but part of me wonders if they do understand that mental illness or trauma is an ongoing thing that isn't solved all at once, and they just really _really_ suck at portraying that? I mean maybe the fact that the series is episodic got them so used to resolving their story-lines by the time the credits rolled that they don't know how to clearly convey that a situation isn't meant to be resolved entirely and they do intend to come back to it. If that's the case then... wow... that's a storytelling disaster. If you give us the impression a problem is solved and then come back to it later it makes it seem like you're just invalidating what happened prior rather than continuing something that wasn't really finished. I think what bothers me most is that they have everything they need to create an amazing story but they just _don't._ It's like collecting all of these amazing and quality ingredients, hiring an exceptionally talented private chef to tell you how to mix them together, and then proceeding to throw them all into an open blender that coats your entire kitchen in a thick layer of wasted potential. You can't help but look at them mess and see all the things that could have come together and mourn the reality that they didn't. We could have seen Steven run down this gradual slope of self-doubt, seeing flaws in the way things work now and wondering if he went about things the right way. You start off SU:F with Steven doing fine, but maybe he overhears a conversation about how things were better before he changed everything, and he kind of shrugs it off. Then he starts to notice things; Spinel having a hard time living with the diamonds, gems feeling lost without the instruction of the diamonds, overhearing comments about how disorganized little home-school is. He starts to wonder if maybe he did the right thing, so he brings it up, and everyone just keeps telling him that it's totally fine because that's what they _think_ he needs to hear. Steven starts feeling that maybe he's paranoid, so he doesn't talk about it anymore but it starts eating at him. The gems have started to see him as this mature leader though, so they keep asking him for advice as he becomes less and less sure of what he's saying. Ultimately you get this breakdown where he comes completely unglued, maybe not corrupted but just inconsolable, and you get this reunion with Spinel and Connie where they're like "Hey, okay maybe things aren't perfect because these are all big changes, but they _will_ be and you did the right thing." They all come clean like "You've been acting so mature lately, and we didn't realize that you might be struggling too. We should have just been honest about the changes being a bit difficult." and Steven realizes that he did have all these people he could talk to, and he feels a bit silly for holding it in. They all realize that Steven probably needs some time away from Beach City, so the gems promise to take care of things, and maybe Peridot, Lapis, Connie, and Spinel all join Steven on an extended vacation. They're all super happy because they know he'll come back and maybe Pearl gets a little teary but everyone else excitedly waves him off knowing he'll be in touch. I would have loved to see something like that, because it doesn't negate any of the characters prior arcs, it would just be showing that when growing up, sometimes you can lose sight of the things that were super obvious to you as a child. It would be less of a commentary on mental health and more like a commentary on the way relationships and people can grow and change over time. That's the way I would have done things; no powers going out of control, no sensationalized over the top drama, just Steven reaching a turning point in his life and getting a little lost. Just some additional comments: I think White Diamond and Blue Diamond's new powers kind of make sense? White may have always had that power (since she seems to have some sort of innate psychological link with all other gems) but had never messed with it. Why she'd suddenly use it so others could puppet her, I really have no clue, because it's not like she's gaining much from it. I'd rather see her try to fuse with her subjects so that she'd be able to psychologically connect with them rather than simply taking control of them or vise-versa. I think with Blue it's more of a problem with the method rather than the idea. Her emotions have always seemed to influence others, so why not invite a bunch of subjects to a get together and have a good laugh with each other? They could make it so that when she laughed everyone else nearby experienced that same happiness, and maybe Spinel could do a performance. Yellow Diamond's power is what bothers me. I think they kind of had something but only bumped shoulders with the idea and failed in implementing it. What I would like to see is a Yellow Diamond fully committed to restoring the gems she shattered, but being forced to grapple with the reality that it's not something she can do with just a wave of her hand. What if a shattered gem could only be restored when every fragment was in place? If you were missing even a tiny chip then it wouldn't work. You'd see yellow diamond carefully collecting and reconstructing gems, acknowledging that it will likely take centuries or even millennia to even gather all the shards scattered among the crevices and dark corners of homeworld and even longer to properly piece them together (assuming such a thing is possible), but remaining committed to such a task as time isn't particularly an issue. I think that would convey the same sort of sentiment without turning the idea of being "shattered" into something so trivial. That's what really ruins it.
My curse is the classic "I can only have _one_ #1 Interest at a time, and I don't notice its flaws until someone else makes me", so, as someone who is trying to write his own AU, I say this comment section is amazing for finding things Steven Universe could have done better. I don't intend to copy your idea, but it's honestly amazing.
I feel like Connie and Steven had always had feelings for each other but that doesn't mean that they should be in a relationship together. I don't think that its out of the ordianry for that to happen but Idk anything about love I'm 13
@@KyleKyle__ I mean to be honest, and in my opinion, if you and someone else have feelings for one another, and there are no solid reasons that you two shouldn't date, then just go for it, worst thing that can realistically happen is that it won't work out, and I say this as someone who has been in a relationship for two years and the relationship has had plenty of ups and downs, so i think I can at least say that much.
Why does Steven have so many powers? Diamonds, the most powerful gems, only have a few powers. Steven is only HALF gem. He shouldn't be a FUCKING GOD. I believe that Steven needs a nerf because NO character needs to have this many abilities. I have no clue why I'm getting so worked up about it, I haven't seen the show in a long time, but hearing what was once a balanced, alright character got turned into an jackass that's more broken than Meta Knight back in Super Smash Bros Brawl has made me just wonder "WTF happened to you?".

I want to say that inperonally give it has to do with 2 things A. Steven is part carbon based lifeform which may increase his powers (since gems are made of light and dust) B. Steven is young and emotional and emotion powers up pink Now hear me out White diamond is the most powerful of the diamond when she is not emotiing, when she is being robotic, pink on the other hand is the most powerful when she is not restraining herself, this would explain why steven is so powerful because he is not holding himself back, he is just acting not thinking. Additionally it is very likeley the cluster is retaining itself since its ment to be able to destroy the earth with its mere existence but it has been shown that this hand form is powerful but not all destroying.
She was basically acting like factory reset Spinel all over again. If it weren't for her getting slightly anxious when White told her to wait outside for a bit ("Don't take too long!"), which _was_ a nice subtle touch, you'd never even know that she had trauma from the movie.
Perhaps she was just used as a plot device to make Steven suffer enough to turn into a monster. I guess the crewniverse never really care enough to develop her character more. What a waste of an interesting villain character.
She literally reverted back to her original persona, despite everything that literally happened in the movie. Not even an OUNCE of movie spinel can be seen and it's so frustrating. Ik she finally (and maybe not even) found her happiness again but she'd at least show something else other than being an annoying ass clown to the man who saved her

I used to like the show until the series finale of Future and then I realized it was actual dogshit and a waste of time. After watching for years and sitting through endless hiatuses it felt like the crew just said "Hey fans! Fuck you!" So I hate it now lmao. If it got renewed I'd sign a petition to get it canceled.
I like how steven being god is "justified" by him being Pink Diamond, but that makes no sense because we basically find out Pink was just a court jester :p

She was given to Pink to keep her preoccupied and entertained, and so Pink left when she outgrew her (yeah it's pretty fucked up). Rebecca sugar even has a song about a toy she left in a garden as a kid and it mirrors that relationship.

As a past Steven Universe fan who's fought tooth and nail to say that the more emotional/cheesy route gave the show character and charm and that Steven's naivety is what gave him character, it is honestly horrifying to admit that the show is horrible now. To realise that at the end of the day, at some point the arguements made against the series were right, atleast later on. I mean, the show ended with a literal hug. That's kinda of symbolic of how the show went from "use the merciful route despite the odds and kindness if you have the choice" to "oh why arent you having pain in le feels yet? See! Is le emotionall. Every1 iz criing"
I just hate how easily it was resolved. Corrupted Steven running around could have been really interesting, and sent the message that patching someone up emotionally takes time. And the words amounted to "It's okay Steven, we went through bad stuff, but you helped us, so we know you can feel better, too." Which is sweet on its own, but doesn't really address the things Steven was going through that ultimately made him snap.
Graphite Tail Grace i agree, like i did enjoyed the finale but im also disappointed in the I Am My Monster episode. Like yea i liked that the corrupted steven theory became true, and seeing everyone feel guilty for making steven go thru horrible things, but i also didn't liked how it got resolved so fast in a 11 minute ep. like why couldn't they do the monster ep into a 30 minute ep instead?? Steven didn't even walked around beach city and little homeschool to cause destruction, all the fighting was taking place in front of the temple. It would've been better that all the gems from little homeschool would work together to stop steven, seeing their abilities in action, nephrite could've had a huge role for that ep because of her bond with steven when he tried to help her when she was corrupted and yet she didn't got to appear in that ep! They missed a perfect chance to show nephrite! And finally, we could've seen so many new gem fusions who would try to stop steven. The crystal gems in my opinion really didn't seem to care a lot for steven during the last eps, like in the ep "everything's fine", they clearly see that steven is not ok, he tells them that he is ok and then they are like "ok if you say so"...... like no! Even in the episode bluebird, steven is so worried and concerned that eyeball and aquamarine fused in order to destroy him and the gems are like ".... eh. We know its them. Its no big deal." They didnt took his feelings seriously in that episode and because of them, eyeball and aquamarine were so close in killing greg!!!! They were so out of character in that ep, they were suppose to care about how worried steven is cuz they know that eyeball tried to kill him, and aquamarine is a psychotic brat... yet they say its not a big deal!!! And speaking of aquamarine and eyeball, they are still out there probably planning another revenge attack against steven! Mean lapis is still out there, emerald is still out there in space trying to destroy lars, we didn't got to see if pink pearl's eye was fully healed cuz she was hiding her eye in the ep Everything's Fine, we don't know where cactus steven went after it left, we still got no answer in what was inside the chest that's inside lion, and we didn't got to see brand new fusions like bismuth with any of the crystal gems. Other than that, i did liked the finale but i do agree that it has its flaws and unresolved things.

Danny phantom: had to deal with the guilt of his future self killing of this friends and humanity. Aang: had to bring balance to the world and also try to find a way to not to kill the man that ruled it. Also leaving with the guilt with not being there to protect it. But yea a hug could solve it

Rebecca's explanation to why Steven is so uber powerful in comparison to everyone else is essentially this: Everyone in Homeworld is level 1 in terms of power because the diamonds were very restrictive and wouldn't allow change. Meanwhile Steven is grinding and becoming more and more powerful so even though his base power is much less than the other diamonds, because he kept grinding, he became much more powerful than the other diamonds. Its still really dumb though. Realistically even though they were dictators they should have still been smart enough to experiment with their powers in order to find new ways to oppress their subjects.

Also Steven never knew what his limits were, so he could've stopped and think he was at his limits but he kept pushing. The Diamonds are seen as all powerful and thats how they see themselves so it would make sense that they would think they reached their limits already and that they are already powerful enough. Now if they were power hungry dictators then they would've probably exceeded their own expectations but they weren't piwer hungry, they just wanted to make an empire and rule without any doubts from anyone.

Ah yes, I remember the good old days when everyone theorized he would be the pink Godzilla and there would be an arc about him being corrupted as soon as we got a glance at the thing, only further reinforced by the first episode with the new pink outburtsts. I followed the rest of the show fully ready for the theory to be true (the show had proven before to be predictable in a bad way), and it still was a major letdown.
I use to relate to original steven (and movie steven kinda) a lot (just added anxiety and low self esteem) but this steven just makes me sad like how do you ruin your main character so bad

The real disappointment with Steven Universe is the lack of solid lore that explains anything. We have almost 0 info on the Diamonds, what their motivation behind conquest was, why Pink Diamond was smaller and where they came from. We also don’t get any insight into how they were before Pink Diamond left.
The Diamonds origins are just the premise fo them being conquerors, the reason they conquer planets is the same why Kryptonians conquer planets, to make more of their kind. Plus we see in Stevonnie's weird dream how Yellow Diamond was to Pink, how Blue Diamond was to Sapphire, by that logic shes also like that to Pink. And What White did to Blue and Yellow? No need an origin story for that.
I had a theory that Pink could be a defective gem which is why she’s so small, her gem is upside down and that she isn’t a primary color and that’s why she shows a lot more interest in defective gems. Yeah, I’m extremely disappointed we didn’t see why. I am extremely disappointed we never actually saw Steven’s “birth”. I’m horribly disappointed that the war was hardly shown or explained and so much more. These people can’t write for crap.

Way too many unresolved gem stories 6. Cluster wasted plot 7. The fusion dances went from elegant to just bumping into each other 8. They downplayed therapy and ignored physical and mental abuse 9. They rused ships then canceled them 10. Lars and Saddie was badly wasted 11. Lapis had very terrible character arc and she was the first newest gem. 12. Peridot got redemped before Lapis, even a homework Lapis got redemped before her. 13. Diamonds got redemped way too fast 14. Rose Quartz soldiers wasted story 15. Human zoo needed more backstory 16. The government is apparently okay with giant alien ships coming to earth and wrecking stuff and stealing people. 17. The mural in the pyramid cave needed more backstory 18. The Lapis mirror, how did Rose or pearl originally used it 19. How did Lion die and if Pink Diamond's healing only extends the life of the almost dead, then shouldn't lion be dead. Doesn't that mean Larson will out live his whole family and friends. 20. Emerald wasted as Hell, room for more with her. 21. Diamond mech and obsidian wasted 22. The treasure chest, no clue what was in that. 22. What were ruby and sapphire doing for so many years before meeting Rose, just in a cave. 23. don't forget jasper's character being shafted the inconsistency with the powerset of the gems i.e pearls spear blasts, rocket gloves, shapeshifting, FUTURE SIGHT, and others under utilization of peridot's mechanic abilities no new designs for the crystal gems under ultilization of the war room
I forgot Pearl She was pretty much a slave falling in love with her master. And she was kind of a bad mom to steven when he mention rose. She nearly no she let Steven fall to his doom. She held a huge sercet from the gems and from steven who had pink diamonds gem. So technically she shouldn't be able to kept that sercet from Steven at least. Lapis and Pearl just were very terrible gems that were try hards. Garnet and Amethyst were the only ones that attempted to really understand Steven and the people he care for at the start. Oh and back to Pearl she trained Connie to be a Pearl, and had her have a complete change in character. Connie could of die on the moon, homeworld and by the wild gems. Why would her parents allow her to do any of that. Steven Universe kind of falls apart story wise if you think about it too much.
Steven Universe Future Basic Summary ( *spoilers* ): Ep.1- Steven (despite being a pacifist) starts a fight out of rage against Jasper to prove he can beat her up. Ep.2- Steven doesn't like that the homeworld gems are doing something they're good at so he gives them jobs that puts people in potential danger without thinking about their best interests. Ep.3- Steven invites a bunch of gems that look like his dead mom (and have only now just appeared for some reason) over to his home despite him and his family being extremely uncomfortable about the situation. Ep.4- Steven tries to help the original pearl of his mother adjust to Earth but ends up yelling at her after she told him Pink Diamond abused her. Thus causing his friends to almost technically die. Ep.5- A painfully obvious reveal of two enemy gems fused together is built up for 3/4ths of the episode just so Greg can get a haircut. Ep.6- Steven is upset because he can't be Marry Poppins and Sonic Says at the same time. Ep.7- The gems are sick of Steven acting responsible so they harass him by playing [insert callback to first season here] and chase him around the house despite the clear signs that he's not enjoying himself at all. Ep.8- Lapis fights two other Lapis gems because they rudely rejected Steven's invitation to alien daycare and they remind her of the disgustingly awful person she used to be (also they're destroying a planet I guess). Ep.9- Steven almost accidentally crushes twenty innocent people because his ship with Lars and Sadie flew south off-screen. Ep.10- Steven gives a cactus sentience and openly mocks his motherly/sister figures in front of it causing the cactus to grow into a metaphorical message of facing his insecurities towards how big of a jerk he's been lately. Ep.11- Steven and Peridot try to recreate their favourite show by having Steven's dreams affect the "t.v signal" but it turns into a metaphorical message of facing his insecurities towards how messed up he's been lately. Ep.12- Steven gets jealous that Connie has other friends outside his life while Bismuth gets rock hard for Pearl on wheels. Ep.13- After getting vague advice from Ruby and Sapphire, Steven asks his friend to marry him despite being 16 years old with no dating experience. When it fails, Garnet says it was inevitable and Steven blames her for his insecurities. Ep.14- Steven's body goes wack due to all the stress he's going through after Connie reasonably said no to his proposal so he finally sees some professional medical help for the first time in his life. Ep.15- Greg takes Steven on a road trip to help his son discover who he truly is in life but it results in Steven disowning his father because he thinks his dad had a better childhood than he did based on a few items and photos in an old family house. Ep.16- Steven runs away to have the longest training session in his life (3 days) with Jasper and demonstrates how overpowered his diamond abilities are by reviving her broken gem corpse in a panic after murdering her 5 minutes ago out of spite and lust for power. Ep.17- Spinel jumps around and screams SU: The Movie references while Steven proceeds to yell at Yellow Diamond after asking her for help, rejects Blue's offer to get high with her, and attempts to shatter White because he didn't learn anything after brutally murdering Jasper not even an hour ago. Ep.18- Steven goes back to Earth and tries to help his friends with whatever while looking like a buff starburst but his "good vibes" are too much for everyone to handle. He finally admits his crimes to his family and turns into a literal giant metaphor towards how much of an awful monster he's been lately. Ep.19- The Diamonds blame themselves for Steven becoming a kaiju (even though it's not and Steven is the one to blame for acting like a jerk and attempting murder... *twice* ) and everyone agrees with them. They all hug it out, Connie kisses Steven's monster schnoz, and everything goes back to normal. Ep.20- Steven decides to leave Beach City and says goodbye to most of the main characters as if it was a metaphor for the show ending or something while we wait for the inevitable end scene where the mom gems hug and cry with Steven for one last farewell. *Thank clod it's finally over.*

didn't steven fight jasper so he coould actually get her to listen to him for once? he thought the only reason they even were doing there old jobs was well....it was all they knew so he tried pushing them outside there comfort zone even though it was proven there best at what they already do I would say the reason the other rose quartz appeaing now is since well...now they have more time to do other stuff besides take down the diamonds and that includes hanging out with the people from the human zoo eh....more so at both her and pearl not just her pearl kinda provoked him there and he did warn her while he was trying to think. painfully obvious reveal?yes as the characters themselves knew it was obvious it wasn't realy built up as anything surprising eh...episode 6 was filler but it wasn't terrible eh in episode 7 it was more then him being responsible but him being straight up more distant I can see why they wanted to just hang out with him more as it seemed like they really haven't for a while now more so terraforming the planet it seemed...episode 8 was fine would have been nice to see other characters get more focus besides steven but it wasn't a bad episode more so just getting his own personal rants and thoughts out (almost like he could use a therapist..) episode 11? eh it was fine to I really liked how it focused on steven and peridot feels like we don't get much of them specifically steven just hasn't made normal human friends in a while so it's kinda awkward for him now I believe it was ruby who mainly supported him marrying connie.but him proposing was one of the stupidest things i've seen him do before yeah it was pretty nice seeing him get professional medical help for the first time what?!? when did steven disown his dad? he never did that. and greg falsely equated his life to steven's which was wrong on his part um...steven could already revive people plus it seemed like he needed some of that diamond stuff to revive jasper. and he got carried away he didn't kill her out of spite or lust for power it was accidental episode 17 was fine but I will say Steven's violent tendencies from before haven't completely left yet. 18 was fine to as for "I am my monster" I mean really...it was more then the diamonds fault but they are kind of to blame partly here... also steven never "tried" to kill anyone episode 20 wasn't bad and was a fine final episode it was serviceable nothing to big overall not a bad season

He was mad with power when he shattered Jasper and he nearly deliberately headbutted a pillar when controlling White. Personally I think this is the worst light we've ever seen Steven in but to each their own. As for the rest, that's a bit too many "ehs" for me to consider this a good wrap up for one of the most influential cartoons of this generation. I agree that it's not bad. It's just mediocre.

I think most fans of Steven Universe are too enamored with the actually good concepts and lore and that's what makes them ignore and justify clearly atrocious writing
I suspect a large part of why some people are so devoted is that their experience of the show is polluted with fan fics and theories, and the group think of the fandom. I was not a part of that. I only watched them this last month. I watched the entirety of SU in the space of a month... I love stories about love and friendship overcoming obstacles, and I cry during a lot of these emotional climaxes. At no point did SU ever let the emotions actually take over the show and leave me feeling anything special.
I am so pissed what they did with Jasper, they gave the "abuser" in the forced fusion Lapis, the support and let Japser the one trapped to be forgotten in the wind to just keep her the same. Like what?!

What's really disturbing to me is that most of the characteristics Lapis is displaying during and after Malachite are signs of an abuser trying to cover up for their behavior and manipulate people. You think that would come up, but no. THE SHOW PAINTS THIS LIKE THIS IS OK. It doesn't help to have the fan base is completely ignorant because ' we don't like big meanJasper. ' It's so biased and awful, and I hate how the fans can't think for themselves and blindly blame one side.

"I'm tired of being everyones prisoner, now youre my prisoner and Im never letting you go". This was extremely manipulative and terrible. Hurt people tend to hurt people. However this behavior is not true to her core which is shown when she says no to jasper when she offers her a chance to go back into an environment where she can be the dominate manipulative abuser. AFTER she throws the barn at blue pretty much all of her bad behavior has stopped she stops lashing out and has confronted her issues and integrated her sins into the image of herself but has reconstructed her life to be productive. Steven and peridot both have called her out or being so selfish or self centered prior to her throwing the barn and that's partly why she changed. Jasper is an amazing character and yes it would have been awesome to see her grow more so but no one is gonna see everyone grow or recover. She is a victim in many ways but her desire to be dominated and subservient is something that she needs to confront herself. People have called her out on in but she hasn't done anything about it. I love jasper an hope she finds her peace

Also, Stevens transformations can’t be solved by his tears, so his Kaiju form is indeed corruption. And by “the hug solves all of his problems” I meant that they were able to pierce through and get to him THROUGH AN AMALGAMATION OF HIS TRAUMA with a simple group hug. It obviously doesn’t solve everything, I just worded myself wrong there. Whoops.

Gems in the fascist society are more mentally well, look at the main cast for ripe examples, peridot vs pearl -> type of gems A > type of gems B, you can be assigned a job you can do well you're fit to work, or pull something out of your ass and fail, so fascism is working for them, not for us, but it does for them. Morality when it comes to hurting animals is just an extension of how humans feel empathy towards other humans, though to insects and some animals people don't even do that, and not everyone agrees on not hurting animals, and if not taught that, even less people, colonization is not bad, they need it to survive too.
Killing random gems is a waste of workforce and effort though, it's just like that because _allegory good_ it is the only evil thing, but only if you use the general human standard that hurting someone for no reason is bad ("...though to insects and some animals..." doesn't count to planets being colonized including earth)

steven wasn’t corrupted. his form reacts to his mental and emotional state. on so many birthdays (if that’s the correct name of the episode) he turns old cuz he feels old. he turned into a monster cuz he viewed himself as such. just trying to establish that he wasn’t actually corrupted cuz everyone thought he was.
The treatment of Spinel’s character physically repulsed me. I fell in love with her in the movie and it felt like they just threw away all of the mature parts of her character and reverted her back to “old Spinel” but not even a very likable(?) version of her.

What would’ve been better is if she’s trying to be happy so that she doesn’t upset the Diamonds, but when she sees that Steven’s going through something she tries to understand what exactly is going on. Or even make her act more mature, like more like a teenager and not a hyperactive child.

Going through a lot and later feeling bad because of it doesn't necessarily mean someone has PTSD and Steven certainly doesn't have it (if anything I'd argue he has BPD). It hurts so much that Steven universe could’ve been something so much better if the writers and storyboard artists weren’t just winging it.
It hurts that EVERY character could have been better, like the 2 lapiz, what happened to the other lapiz that didn't go to Little Home school?? Or the 3 rose quartz? What happened to the one that was exactly like Steven's mom? White Diamond would have been an amazing antagonist staying like her old form! And the show actually seems to teach that consequences doesn't exist, all the evil and cruel actions the characters made were basically discarded.

As a person diagnosed by a therapist with PTSD, I would say that Steven Universe Future didn't accurately portray said PTSD.
As another person with PTSD- I really cant watch how PP broke down in the reef. Its honestly the only realish portrayal of how it feels to have a flash back and break down.
But the fact that they glossed over it and made her happy and healed 20mins later is messed up. Wish it was as easy as talking to someone and holding their hand.

I mean there's nothing wrong with that because that's the tone of the show but Steven universe is different and Steven universe future tone changed too much during the finale the diamond and spinel were crying and were we supposed to laugh at that? And overall the show is rushed there's so many character that deserves more screen time and development but nope they just ended it with a hug

@Squidward exactly. It was such a short line that I didn't even hear that Steven was going to a therapist. They really should have showed it, it would've made the resolution stronger. Whereas they show him falling apart for 20 episodes and then "k he's going to therapy now" in an easily missbale line at the end.
Advice to writers: Don't treat mental illnesses as a problem you have to "solve" or "fix".
Imagine it like a physical disability. You can't just have the kid in the wheelchair miraculously walk and call that a valuable lesson for the audience. It's not something you cure. It's something you cope with. It shouldn't just disappear by the end of the story, rather you can show how your characters learn to deal with it in a healthy way and accept it as a part of their reality. Especially by finding a good support system.
Also implying you *need* other people’s love to get better will only amplify feelings of hopelessness in the audience members that lack supportive friends and family. (I speak from experience)
P.S. Imagine if they fully utilized both Spinel and Jasper to help Steven go on his emotional journey.
Jasper as the emotionally constipated one that could work through her issues along side him (and occasional lead him in the wrong direction because of her stubbornness) and Spinel as the good influence who helps Steven by showing him how to love himself the same way he taught her. (Since Steven is good at helping others and not himself I think that would be great coming from Spinel specifically.) They could also switch with Spinel giving bad advice over certain things and Jasper giving good advice on things. Like Spinel might have suggested immediately proposing to Connie to keep her from leaving because she is paranoid when it comes to being abandoned, but Jasper would teach him about confidence, inner strength and the importance of independence.
Then those 2 characters could have a point and actually complete their character arcs.
And let's be honest we didn't need to see bluebird or those two lapises AND NO STUPID GODZILLA MONSTER.

Can we fire Sugar and retcon her piss poor stuff and just have you write this? I'd rather see this season than what we got. This is genuinely an excellent way to utilize two very broken characters and help them grow and become better, as well as show how one actually tackles mental health issues, such as abandonment issues and anger problems.

The 2 lapises are confusing, the one who changed was never seen again, and it will be nice if they are given differnt names added to lapis, instead of just lapis. The godzilla ep makes no sense in general, trauma cannot be solved by hugging, and show the therapy sessions pls. But executives say limited ep... soooo skipped. I still hate how they handled Homeworld in this series. The only glimpses we ever got to see of it were during the second to last episode and it wasn't even for anything useful. The fact that the show has never had some type of creation story for the germs is also mind-boggling to me, you would think in a show centered around lore and world-building that some type of creationist story (whether mythological or not) would be mentioned at some point. When you think about it there's still so much about the gems that we don't know (who made the diamonds, why was the caste system the way it was, why was Pink Diamond so much smaller and weaker than the others (if she was made at a later time then what prompted them to make her in the first place), what was everyday society like in Homeworld, etc.) Steven Universe: Future would have been the perfect opportunity to explore stuff like this since it's supposed to be an epilogue but it's just...never mentioned. And I really don't understand why. One of the big reasons why people like this show so much is because of the lore and the world-building, and yet none of that is expanded or explored in SUF. 95% of the scenes in SUF either take place in the temple, Little Homeworld or the beach. I would have even liked an episode of the Diamonds just telling Steven more memories about Pink that they had, teaching him more things about Gem history and culture, etc. Personally, I would have found that to be more interesting than 10 more minutes of Steven crying and getting mad at people.

tbh I would love to see an original miniseries centering on life on Homeworld in all of the eras. We'd get to see the ranks of different gems, how people on Homeworld react to certain things, just a lot of things that would make you go "Ohhh, so that's why (blank) happened!".

I love the show because the idea is so great of how the gems work and everything. But there isn't enough focus on the gems themselves and there isn't enough focus on Homeworld and how things are going over there. It really could've been a great show with the idea that the show had but it ended up not meeting expectations. Still a good show, would watch, but it could've been SO much better.

I'd also like to add, Steven's PTSD and depression is apparently an excuse for him to be violent and physically and emotionally abusive. (When he lashes out at the people who try to help him, screamed at Volleyball, harmed Jaspar, the cactus, almost hurt Connie and her mom, etc.). He doesn't face any consequences for his actions. As somebody who has PTSD, anxiety, and depression for several years, I can say that having a mental illness is no damn excuse for hurting other people--no matter how "sad" they are. It was not only out of character for Steven to have been like that, it's awful, tasteless and dangerous.

Agreed. In real life, even if someone has a mental illness, they would realistically face heavy consequences for assaulting and murdering someone. As a fan of Steven Universe,the ending was disappointing. So much left unanswered and that last episode was so off.
As someone who liked the Corrupted Steven theory,seeing Corrupted Steven do nothing was super disappointing.
And have him still showing remorse for his actions despite the Gems preventing him from going on a rampage really adds more salt to the infection.

When I saw the commercials for the Final Episodes, I thought to myself, "Wait, that's it? We're just going straight to the finale in a season of mostly filler with no real build-up to anything other than Steven having random outbursts of Pink Bitch Energy almost killing his friends for really dumb reasons?"
As a persona who suffered from severe depresion and anxiety. I think the decission of Steven go ALONE in a discovery trip FAR FROM HIS SUPPORT CIRCLE was the absolutele worst way to solve the things. Also Pink Diamond didnt shatter anyone, Steven did. And there where no consecuentes for it.

The scene itself of Pink pearl curling up in a ball shaking is the only accurate part of having a PTSD related flash back/antiexy attack. Its not somthing you "get over" by holding a friends hand.

Things I hated about Steven Universe Future as a whole:
- Lapis Lazuli: the show never brings up how she's been so awful so Peridot, and there's never any repercussions for her taking away the Barn and everything Peridot cared about.
- The Diamonds: Again, there's no repercussions for what they've done. They've destroyed millions of life forms, forced countless of gems into fusing. Abused one of their own, even if it was unintended, abuse is abuse, no matter what light you put it under. Yet, the show never gives them any consequences.
- White Diamond: I was so excited to see her in Change Your Mind. I was looking forward to seeing this Diamond of all Diamonds being the villain that Steven simply couldn't redeem. She took out his gemstone, nearly killing him, mind controlled the Crystal Gems and other Diamonds. Then Steven just says, "No U" , and then suddenly she's off colour and immediately does a 180 in her character.
Steven beating White by roasting her was one of the worst stunts they pulled in SU
You're right about White and it pisses me off so much. She could've been a magnificent, self actualized and brutal villainess. She was reduced to your conservative auntie at Thanksgiving, the one you gotta love cause "she means well".
It would have been better if after Steven tries to redeem her, White Diamond just laughs in his face, telling him " you know, I appreciate you for trying, but.....

Pink Diamond/Rose Quartz: a redeemed character who learned to be a better person is used as a scapegoat for being evil and the root of all problems with Steven not even forgiving her/possibly disowning her by hiding her picture away 😢
Pink Diamond, to me, was one of the MOST INTERESTING characters to ever be on the show (other than Peridot). They portrayed her development backward but it's the most realistic development compared to EVERY OTHER damn character in this fucking show. She started off as a brat, neglectful, whiny, powerless, "defective", and childish Diamond.
And yet, as the original show went on, we got to see the points of when Pink Diamond soon came to realize that, ever since she's been given the earth and moon to colonize and create more gems, she's simply hurting the organic lifeforms rather than making gems pop out of thin air (what she originally thought). Since then, she's been trying to better herself as a person/diamond without ANYONE telling her to! Yes, there were a few sacrifices to be made (leaving Spinel, hurting her original pearl, being a rebel with her pearl, and ending her life as Pink Diamond to live as Rose Quartz), but honestly, that's what makes her more real. Showing that, yes, even though she's bettering herself, it doesn't mean she'll become a saint and only do good.
By the time the war was over, Pink has only learned to love and play with the organic life on earth and didn't really care about them personally. And I think people don't give Greg more credit since if it weren't for him, Pink would continue with that mindset and treat the humans like "toys".
At the end of her life, Pink became a better person. Is she a saint? Far from it, but that's what makes her such a compelling character. And what angers me is that the show uses her, and ONLY her, as the root of all problems when:
- Yellow Diamond tried to destroy the earth
- Blue Diamond locked Steven and Connie in a cell with them having DAYS of not eating
- White Diamond LITERALLY PULLING STEVEN'S GEM OUT AND LEAVING HIM TO DIE
- Lapis almost drowning both Connie and Steven + taking earth's ocean
- Jasper literally wanting to murder Steven for the whole time she's on screen
- Pearl letting Steven die in "Rose's Scabbard"
- Steven being a piece of SHIT and playing the victim when he's JUST AS GUILTY
But Pink's the bad guy?!

She saved the earth, went against dictators, cried and healed those who got hurt, tried to understand humans, and what did she get in the end?

I feel you on this. I didn't realize it at first because the show works really hard to make you hate pink diamond, but her character arc is revealed in reverse. If you put Pink's character arc in chronological order she is a great character who learned all about how bad she was, and made great sacrifices to change for the better. Yes it involved severing ties with her family, taking a new name and new look, but honestly considering no one else was allowing her to change these all make sense. The info-bomb that rose is pink creates an endless downward spiral of how horrible "my mom" is with Steven but the reality is "my mom" grew up and moved out and her abusive family lashed out at her for it. Literally none of the corrupted gems, the cluster, the war or anything was her fault. Those were her consequences for deciding to not be the next tyrant diamond.
I've been thinking about this for a long time. Didn't Pink try to be a better person near the end of her life? Why do we have to end on such a sour note for her??

Same way 13 Reasons Why pushed a wave of people wanting depression and suicidal. I'm not saying it is a direct comparison, but the way impressionable children take the mental health aspect away from the show is the same amount of damaging to the people with legitimate issues that the show "covers."

One thing that annoyed the hell out of me was how Steven was constantly victimized. He went through a lot of shit, sure, but everyone needed to solve his problems at the end. He did a lot of scummy shit during this whole series and refused to accept other people changing and needed them to make resolve surrounding him. At the end when Connie says "We needed Steven this whole time, now he needs us" or something like that- He refused to ask for help, he bottled everything up, he acted recklessly, he hid things- You can't tell your audience that that's okay and people can just read your mind and solves your problems for you.
Biggest thing about helping someone with a mental illness: You can only help them as much as they allow _themselves_ to be helped and you are NOT their therapist.
100% THIS! This show attempted to portray a person suffering from mental illness struggling to ask for help, but instead showed Steven pushing people away, acting unfairly rude, and disrespecting and exploding on anyone who tries to help him. It upsets me how people are looking at this show as great representation for mental illness when other shows do a much better job

I would say he was literally portrayed as Rose Quartz. The biggest problem I have with the “new diamond powers” is that all the powers make sense in how they were reversed except steven’s. He goes from having healing powers to having destructive powers which makes sense, but the show has no clue what destructive means! Instead of making things break or decay (the opposite of heal) Steven gets a speed boost, super strength, can slow time, etc. He gets all of these “destructive” powers, meanwhile the other, presumably stronger diamonds, only get the one power.
And what's the excuse for that, that I hear from People?
"Oh he trained and used his Powers more creatively than the Diamonds."
That doesn't explain the Super-Speed and Time Freeze! None of the other Diamonds had that, and it doesn't fit in with his other Powers!

This show was my thing back in the day, before season 4. I fell out of love with it when I realized how it portrayed PTSD sufferers as being insufferable assholes who never have to apologize. I have PTSD, and while I know everyone displays it differently, Lapis and Steven were just wildly incorrect and insulting depictions of survivors. Mental illness can explain behaviors, but never excuses them. I hated how Lapis was excused for legitimate abuse towards Jasper (because they were both in the wrong) and I’m especially glad I dropped this show at the season 5 finale because I would’ve felt awful about myself watching Steven act like a complete toxic tool to everyone around him and have it be explained as just what people with my disease are like.

Not at all, Jasper kidnapped her and was bringing her back to homeworld against her will, Jasper was the literal villain here do not say the kidnapped victim was being worse. She did not violate Jasper she just trapped them both in a cell together so the others could escape, that doesn't sound worse or more abusive then kidnapping someone and bringing them to where you want them to be. Jasper wasn't r*ped and what Lapis went through was still pretty bad. But it was also done to save Steven and the others so it was not all bad. But she WAS the victim.
The one scene I unapologetically loved in this series is when he is speaking with Dr. Mahaswaran. Ignoring the stupid pink glowing and swelling, Dr. mahaswaran focuses on the literal scars steven's previous experiences have left and how even when he quickly healed them they healed incorrectly. That is the closest I have ever felt this seires came to discussing mental health correctly.

What bothers me most is that the show is just so, so inconsistent. I'm starting to think that they're incapable of depicting something as a "turning point" rather then a "conclusion." It's like with Pearl, she has to "get over Rose" every other season, and I'm like... "The way you addressed it last time made it seem as though it was over, but now you're bringing it up again, so it obviously wasn't over?" It makes the writing seem inconsistent, but part of me wonders if they do understand that mental illness or trauma is an ongoing thing that isn't solved all at once, and they just really _really_ suck at portraying that? I mean maybe the fact that the series is episodic got them so used to resolving their story-lines by the time the credits rolled that they don't know how to clearly convey that a situation isn't meant to be resolved entirely and they do intend to come back to it. If that's the case then... wow... that's a storytelling disaster. If you give us the impression a problem is solved and then come back to it later it makes it seem like you're just invalidating what happened prior rather than continuing something that wasn't really finished.
I think what bothers me most is that they have everything they need to create an amazing story but they just _don't._ It's like collecting all of these amazing and quality ingredients, hiring an exceptionally talented private chef to tell you how to mix them together, and then proceeding to throw them all into an open blender that coats your entire kitchen in a thick layer of wasted potential. You can't help but look at them mess and see all the things that could have come together and mourn the reality that they didn't.
We could have seen Steven run down this gradual slope of self-doubt, seeing flaws in the way things work now and wondering if he went about things the right way. You start off SU:F with Steven doing fine, but maybe he overhears a conversation about how things were better before he changed everything, and he kind of shrugs it off. Then he starts to notice things; Spinel having a hard time living with the diamonds, gems feeling lost without the instruction of the diamonds, overhearing comments about how disorganized little home-school is. He starts to wonder if maybe he did the right thing, so he brings it up, and everyone just keeps telling him that it's totally fine because that's what they _think_ he needs to hear. Steven starts feeling that maybe he's paranoid, so he doesn't talk about it anymore but it starts eating at him. The gems have started to see him as this mature leader though, so they keep asking him for advice as he becomes less and less sure of what he's saying. Ultimately you get this breakdown where he comes completely unglued, maybe not corrupted but just inconsolable, and you get this reunion with Spinel and Connie where they're like "Hey, okay maybe things aren't perfect because these are all big changes, but they _will_ be and you did the right thing." They all come clean like "You've been acting so mature lately, and we didn't realize that you might be struggling too. We should have just been honest about the changes being a bit difficult." and Steven realizes that he did have all these people he could talk to, and he feels a bit silly for holding it in. They all realize that Steven probably needs some time away from Beach City, so the gems promise to take care of things, and maybe Peridot, Lapis, Connie, and Spinel all join Steven on an extended vacation. They're all super happy because they know he'll come back and maybe Pearl gets a little teary but everyone else excitedly waves him off knowing he'll be in touch. I would have loved to see something like that, because it doesn't negate any of the characters prior arcs, it would just be showing that when growing up, sometimes you can lose sight of the things that were super obvious to you as a child. It would be less of a commentary on mental health and more like a commentary on the way relationships and people can grow and change over time. That's the way I would have done things; no powers going out of control, no sensationalized over the top drama, just Steven reaching a turning point in his life and getting a little lost.
Just some additional comments: I think White Diamond and Blue Diamond's new powers kind of make sense? White may have always had that power (since she seems to have some sort of innate psychological link with all other gems) but had never messed with it. Why she'd suddenly use it so others could puppet her, I really have no clue, because it's not like she's gaining much from it. I'd rather see her try to fuse with her subjects so that she'd be able to psychologically connect with them rather than simply taking control of them or vise-versa. I think with Blue it's more of a problem with the method rather than the idea. Her emotions have always seemed to influence others, so why not invite a bunch of subjects to a get together and have a good laugh with each other? They could make it so that when she laughed everyone else nearby experienced that same happiness, and maybe Spinel could do a performance.
Yellow Diamond's power is what bothers me. I think they kind of had something but only bumped shoulders with the idea and failed in implementing it. What I would like to see is a Yellow Diamond fully committed to restoring the gems she shattered, but being forced to grapple with the reality that it's not something she can do with just a wave of her hand. What if a shattered gem could only be restored when every fragment was in place? If you were missing even a tiny chip then it wouldn't work. You'd see yellow diamond carefully collecting and reconstructing gems, acknowledging that it will likely take centuries or even millennia to even gather all the shards scattered among the crevices and dark corners of homeworld and even longer to properly piece them together (assuming such a thing is possible), but remaining committed to such a task as time isn't particularly an issue. I think that would convey the same sort of sentiment without turning the idea of being "shattered" into something so trivial. That's what really ruins it.

Why does Steven have so many powers? Diamonds, the most powerful gems, only have a few powers. Steven is only HALF gem. He shouldn't be a FUCKING GOD.

I have no clue why I'm getting so worked up about it, I haven't seen the show in a long time, but hearing what was once a balanced, alright character got turned into an jackass that's more broken than Meta Knight back in Super Smash Bros Brawl has made me just wonder "WTF happened to you?".

I want to say that inperonally give it has to do with 2 things
A. Steven is part carbon based lifeform which may increase his powers (since gems are made of light and dust)
B. Steven is young and emotional and emotion powers up pink

White diamond is the most powerful of the diamond when she is not emotiing, when she is being robotic, pink on the other hand is the most powerful when she is not restraining herself, this would explain why steven is so powerful because he is not holding himself back, he is just acting not thinking.
Additionally it is very likeley the cluster is retaining itself since its ment to be able to destroy the earth with its mere existence but it has been shown that this hand form is powerful but not all destroying.
I loved Spinel in the movie. But she was so. God. Damn. ANNOYING in Steven Universe Future.
She was basically acting like factory reset Spinel all over again. If it weren't for her getting slightly anxious when White told her to wait outside for a bit ("Don't take too long!"), which _was_ a nice subtle touch, you'd never even know that she had trauma from the movie.
Perhaps she was just used as a plot device to make Steven suffer enough to turn into a monster. I guess the crewniverse never really care enough to develop her character more. What a waste of an interesting villain character.
She literally reverted back to her original persona, despite everything that literally happened in the movie. Not even an OUNCE of movie spinel can be seen and it's so frustrating. Ik she finally (and maybe not even) found her happiness again but she'd at least show something else other than being an annoying ass clown to the man who saved her

I used to like the show until the series finale of Future and then I realized it was actual dogshit and a waste of time. After watching for years and sitting through endless hiatuses it felt like the crew just said "Hey fans! Fuck you!"

She was given to Pink to keep her preoccupied and entertained, and so Pink left when she outgrew her (yeah it's pretty fucked up). Rebecca sugar even has a song about a toy she left in a garden as a kid and it mirrors that relationship.

As a past Steven Universe fan who's fought tooth and nail to say that the more emotional/cheesy route gave the show character and charm and that Steven's naivety is what gave him character, it is honestly horrifying to admit that the show is horrible now. To realise that at the end of the day, at some point the arguements made against the series were right, atleast later on. I mean, the show ended with a literal hug. That's kinda of symbolic of how the show went from "use the merciful route despite the odds and kindness if you have the choice" to "oh why arent you having pain in le feels yet? See! Is le emotionall. Every1 iz criing"
I just hate how easily it was resolved. Corrupted Steven running around could have been really interesting, and sent the message that patching someone up emotionally takes time. And the words amounted to "It's okay Steven, we went through bad stuff, but you helped us, so we know you can feel better, too." Which is sweet on its own, but doesn't really address the things Steven was going through that ultimately made him snap.
But keep in mind in the epsidoe future they address that its been months since that incident and is said he is going to therapy yo resolve that

Graphite Tail Grace i agree, like i did enjoyed the finale but im also disappointed in the I Am My Monster episode. Like yea i liked that the corrupted steven theory became true, and seeing everyone feel guilty for making steven go thru horrible things, but i also didn't liked how it got resolved so fast in a 11 minute ep. like why couldn't they do the monster ep into a 30 minute ep instead?? Steven didn't even walked around beach city and little homeschool to cause destruction, all the fighting was taking place in front of the temple. It would've been better that all the gems from little homeschool would work together to stop steven, seeing their abilities in action, nephrite could've had a huge role for that ep because of her bond with steven when he tried to help her when she was corrupted and yet she didn't got to appear in that ep! They missed a perfect chance to show nephrite! And finally, we could've seen so many new gem fusions who would try to stop steven.
The crystal gems in my opinion really didn't seem to care a lot for steven during the last eps, like in the ep "everything's fine", they clearly see that steven is not ok, he tells them that he is ok and then they are like "ok if you say so"...... like no! Even in the episode bluebird, steven is so worried and concerned that eyeball and aquamarine fused in order to destroy him and the gems are like ".... eh. We know its them. Its no big deal." They didnt took his feelings seriously in that episode and because of them, eyeball and aquamarine were so close in killing greg!!!! They were so out of character in that ep, they were suppose to care about how worried steven is cuz they know that eyeball tried to kill him, and aquamarine is a psychotic brat... yet they say its not a big deal!!!
And speaking of aquamarine and eyeball, they are still out there probably planning another revenge attack against steven!
Mean lapis is still out there, emerald is still out there in space trying to destroy lars, we didn't got to see if pink pearl's eye was fully healed cuz she was hiding her eye in the ep Everything's Fine, we don't know where cactus steven went after it left, we still got no answer in what was inside the chest that's inside lion, and we didn't got to see brand new fusions like bismuth with any of the crystal gems.
Other than that, i did liked the finale but i do agree that it has its flaws and unresolved things.

Rebecca's explanation to why Steven is so uber powerful in comparison to everyone else is essentially this: Everyone in Homeworld is level 1 in terms of power because the diamonds were very restrictive and wouldn't allow change. Meanwhile Steven is grinding and becoming more and more powerful so even though his base power is much less than the other diamonds, because he kept grinding, he became much more powerful than the other diamonds.
Its still really dumb though. Realistically even though they were dictators they should have still been smart enough to experiment with their powers in order to find new ways to oppress their subjects.

@@redram6080 Well I mean as dictators that ruled through countless planets, they really don't seem to have the time to train and test for new abilities. Also Steven never knew what his limits were, so he could've stopped and think he was at his limits but he kept pushing. The Diamonds are seen as all powerful and thats how they see themselves so it would make sense that they would think they reached their limits already and that they are already powerful enough. Now if they were power hungry dictators then they would've probably exceeded their own expectations but they weren't piwer hungry, they just wanted to make an empire and rule without any doubts from anyone.

Ah yes, I remember the good old days when everyone theorized he would be the pink Godzilla and there would be an arc about him being corrupted as soon as we got a glance at the thing, only further reinforced by the first episode with the new pink outburtsts. I followed the rest of the show fully ready for the theory to be true (the show had proven before to be predictable in a bad way), and it still was a major letdown.
To me future Steven is like a completely different person to the Steven in the original story. I hated what they did to him.
I use to relate to original steven (and movie steven kinda) a lot (just added anxiety and low self esteem) but this steven just makes me sad like how do you ruin your main character so bad

The real disappointment with Steven Universe is the lack of solid lore that explains anything. We have almost 0 info on the Diamonds, what their motivation behind conquest was, why Pink Diamond was smaller and where they came from. We also don’t get any insight into how they were before Pink Diamond left.
The Diamonds origins are just the premise fo them being conquerors, the reason they conquer planets is the same why Kryptonians conquer planets, to make more of their kind. Plus we see in Stevonnie's weird dream how Yellow Diamond was to Pink, how Blue Diamond was to Sapphire, by that logic shes also like that to Pink. And What White did to Blue and Yellow? No need an origin story for that.

I had a theory that Pink could be a defective gem which is why she’s so small, her gem is upside down and that she isn’t a primary color and that’s why she shows a lot more interest in defective gems. Yeah, I’m extremely disappointed we didn’t see why. I am extremely disappointed we never actually saw Steven’s “birth”. I’m horribly disappointed that the war was hardly shown or explained and so much more. These people can’t write for crap.

16. The government is apparently okay with giant alien ships coming to earth and wrecking stuff and stealing people.

She was pretty much a slave falling in love with her master. And she was kind of a bad mom to steven when he mention rose. She nearly no she let Steven fall to his doom. She held a huge sercet from the gems and from steven who had pink diamonds gem. So technically she shouldn't be able to kept that sercet from Steven at least. Lapis and Pearl just were very terrible gems that were try hards. Garnet and Amethyst were the only ones that attempted to really understand Steven and the people he care for at the start. Oh and back to Pearl she trained Connie to be a Pearl, and had her have a complete change in character. Connie could of die on the moon, homeworld and by the wild gems. Why would her parents allow her to do any of that. Steven Universe kind of falls apart story wise if you think about it too much.
Also Centipeedle/Nephrite wasn't shown at all. The very first Corrupted Gem Steven helped and became friends with never shows up again.

Steven Universe Future Basic Summary ( *spoilers* ):
Ep.1- Steven (despite being a pacifist) starts a fight out of rage against Jasper to prove he can beat her up.
Ep.2- Steven doesn't like that the homeworld gems are doing something they're good at so he gives them jobs that puts people in potential danger without thinking about their best interests.
Ep.3- Steven invites a bunch of gems that look like his dead mom (and have only now just appeared for some reason) over to his home despite him and his family being extremely uncomfortable about the situation.
Ep.4- Steven tries to help the original pearl of his mother adjust to Earth but ends up yelling at her after she told him Pink Diamond abused her. Thus causing his friends to almost technically die.
Ep.5- A painfully obvious reveal of two enemy gems fused together is built up for 3/4ths of the episode just so Greg can get a haircut.
Ep.6- Steven is upset because he can't be Marry Poppins and Sonic Says at the same time.
Ep.7- The gems are sick of Steven acting responsible so they harass him by playing [insert callback to first season here] and chase him around the house despite the clear signs that he's not enjoying himself at all.
Ep.8- Lapis fights two other Lapis gems because they rudely rejected Steven's invitation to alien daycare and they remind her of the disgustingly awful person she used to be (also they're destroying a planet I guess).
Ep.9- Steven almost accidentally crushes twenty innocent people because his ship with Lars and Sadie flew south off-screen.
Ep.10- Steven gives a cactus sentience and openly mocks his motherly/sister figures in front of it causing the cactus to grow into a metaphorical message of facing his insecurities towards how big of a jerk he's been lately.
Ep.11- Steven and Peridot try to recreate their favourite show by having Steven's dreams affect the "t.v signal" but it turns into a metaphorical message of facing his insecurities towards how messed up he's been lately.
Ep.12- Steven gets jealous that Connie has other friends outside his life while Bismuth gets rock hard for Pearl on wheels.
Ep.13- After getting vague advice from Ruby and Sapphire, Steven asks his friend to marry him despite being 16 years old with no dating experience. When it fails, Garnet says it was inevitable and Steven blames her for his insecurities.
Ep.14- Steven's body goes wack due to all the stress he's going through after Connie reasonably said no to his proposal so he finally sees some professional medical help for the first time in his life.
Ep.15- Greg takes Steven on a road trip to help his son discover who he truly is in life but it results in Steven disowning his father because he thinks his dad had a better childhood than he did based on a few items and photos in an old family house.
Ep.16- Steven runs away to have the longest training session in his life (3 days) with Jasper and demonstrates how overpowered his diamond abilities are by reviving her broken gem corpse in a panic after murdering her 5 minutes ago out of spite and lust for power.
Ep.17- Spinel jumps around and screams SU: The Movie references while Steven proceeds to yell at Yellow Diamond after asking her for help, rejects Blue's offer to get high with her, and attempts to shatter White because he didn't learn anything after brutally murdering Jasper not even an hour ago.
Ep.18- Steven goes back to Earth and tries to help his friends with whatever while looking like a buff starburst but his "good vibes" are too much for everyone to handle. He finally admits his crimes to his family and turns into a literal giant metaphor towards how much of an awful monster he's been lately.
Ep.19- The Diamonds blame themselves for Steven becoming a kaiju (even though it's not and Steven is the one to blame for acting like a jerk and attempting murder... *twice* ) and everyone agrees with them. They all hug it out, Connie kisses Steven's monster schnoz, and everything goes back to normal.
Ep.20- Steven decides to leave Beach City and says goodbye to most of the main characters as if it was a metaphor for the show ending or something while we wait for the inevitable end scene where the mom gems hug and cry with Steven for one last farewell. *Thank clod it's finally over.*
This.......is fucking broken writing. I want it to be better if they didn't blame themselves and tried to stop a giant steven. Hell.....it would be better if jasper didn't come back and he was more messed up.

he thought the only reason they even were doing there old jobs was well....it was all they knew so he tried pushing them outside there comfort zone even though it was proven there best at what they already do
I would say the reason the other rose quartz appeaing now is since well...now they have more time to do other stuff besides take down the diamonds and that includes hanging out with the people from the human zoo
eh....more so at both her and pearl not just her pearl kinda provoked him there and he did warn her while he was trying to think.
painfully obvious reveal?yes as the characters themselves knew it was obvious it wasn't realy built up as anything surprising
eh...episode 6 was filler but it wasn't terrible
eh in episode 7 it was more then him being responsible but him being straight up more distant I can see why they wanted to just hang out with him more as it seemed like they really haven't for a while now
more so terraforming the planet it seemed...episode 8 was fine
would have been nice to see other characters get more focus besides steven but it wasn't a bad episode
more so just getting his own personal rants and thoughts out (almost like he could use a therapist..)
episode 11? eh it was fine to I really liked how it focused on steven and peridot feels like we don't get much of them specifically
steven just hasn't made normal human friends in a while so it's kinda awkward for him now
I believe it was ruby who mainly supported him marrying connie.but him proposing was one of the stupidest things i've seen him do before

what?!? when did steven disown his dad? he never did that. and greg falsely equated his life to steven's which was wrong on his part
um...steven could already revive people plus it seemed like he needed some of that diamond stuff to revive jasper. and he got carried away he didn't kill her out of spite or lust for power it was accidental
episode 17 was fine but I will say Steven's violent tendencies from before haven't completely left yet.
18 was fine to
as for "I am my monster" I mean really...it was more then the diamonds fault but they are kind of to blame partly here... also steven never "tried" to kill anyone
episode 20 wasn't bad and was a fine final episode it was serviceable nothing to big
overall not a bad season
@@Jdudec367 I'm fine with people interpreting stories through different meanings and perspectives, but to say Steven didn't outright try to shatter White or Jasper is just false. He was mad with power when he shattered Jasper and he nearly deliberately headbutted a pillar when controlling White. Personally I think this is the worst light we've ever seen Steven in but to each their own. As for the rest, that's a bit too many "ehs" for me to consider this a good wrap up for one of the most influential cartoons of this generation. I agree that it's not bad. It's just mediocre.
@@oldoutlet6946 I mean like with Jasper he was mad but it was more so him just going overboard with his powers he didn't try to shatter Jasper. white? he wanted her to hurt but I wouldn't say kill her. I fine the ending really wasn't perfect but it was fine IMO and so was the season it was fine. Steven mentally isn't at his best but I think that's the point that's not exactly a bad idea and I think the season was still good

The fact that he's OP, left everyone and goes by himself now is kinda scary. Would they ever thought maybe he will some ticking time bomb at where he is now especially people keeps on saying that he's not totally fine yet or better. Man I would feel bad for the therapist handling him.

I think most fans of Steven Universe are too enamored with the actually good concepts and lore and that's what makes them ignore and justify clearly atrocious writing
I suspect a large part of why some people are so devoted is that their experience of the show is polluted with fan fics and theories, and the group think of the fandom. I was not a part of that. I only watched them this last month. I watched the entirety of SU in the space of a month... I love stories about love and friendship overcoming obstacles, and I cry during a lot of these emotional climaxes. At no point did SU ever let the emotions actually take over the show and leave me feeling anything special.
All the positive aspects are drowned by the negative ones

The most that Jasper did was follow orders, capture Lapis, and grabbed her a bit violently.
But yeah. She’s mostly a victim. It could have worked if they were both portrayed as abusers who abused each other, but that’s not what happened at all.
Yeah it's honestly kind of disgusting how they handled this. Rebecca has said repeatedly that it's supposed to be mutual abuse, yet she keeps portraying that Lapis is the victim. What's really disturbing to me is that most of the characteristics Lapis is displaying during and after Malachite are signs of an abuser trying to cover up for their behavior and manipulate people. You think that would come up, but no. THE SHOW PAINTS THIS LIKE THIS IS OK. It doesn't help to have the fan base is completely ignorant because ' we don't like big meanJasper. ' It's so biased and awful, and I hate how the fans can't think for themselves and blindly blame one side.
@@PurpleMoonFlute Lapis has ptsd. Lapis was also manipulative and abusive. Lapis's ptsd explains (not excuses) her actions... "I'm tired of being everyones prisoner, now youre my prisoner and Im never letting you go". This was extremely manipulative and terrible. Hurt people tend to hurt people. However this behavior is not true to her core which is shown when she says no to jasper when she offers her a chance to go back into an environment where she can be the dominate manipulative abuser. AFTER she throws the barn at blue pretty much all of her bad behavior has stopped she stops lashing out and has confronted her issues and integrated her sins into the image of herself but has reconstructed her life to be productive. Steven and peridot both have called her out or being so selfish or self centered prior to her throwing the barn and that's partly why she changed.
Jasper is an amazing character and yes it would have been awesome to see her grow more so but no one is gonna see everyone grow or recover. She is a victim in many ways but her desire to be dominated and subservient is something that she needs to confront herself. People have called her out on in but she hasn't done anything about it. I love jasper an hope she finds her peace
@@nyabis8044 They BOTH abused each other? Jasper WANTED Malachite and Lapis gave it to her. She trapped Jasper to keep them safe or to give them a little time to prepare for Jasper's revenge...and JASPER came back on the boat BEGGING for Malachite. The way Jasper handles Lapis with aggression is bad but yes, Lapis could've handled Malachite in a better way but to be honest, it was inevitable.
It's even messed up how they just turn poor Volleyball into a running gag. ANOTHER ABUSE VICTIM!
I don’t understand how Steven can be more stronger and powerful than the diamonds when he is PINK diamond. The little undeveloped diamond. She’s not as big as her sisters nor powerful. If they can place pink diamond in her cell whenever she act up how can they not do the same for Steven universe monster form. It’s just so stupid to me.
