@@SwitchB i know it's not quantifiable, and i know he still isn't a good defender necessarily, but the eye test really does show that he's been at least trying harder, hence "watch the games" and not give stats without context. atlanta as a whole has the third worst drtg in the league, and his drtg is barely any different from his teammates. drtg is a super malleable stat so clearly it's more of a system problem than solely a trae problem.

The biggest thing about Trae is that he would pass the ball to Wemby when he is open. Then, he can still create his own shot when needed. I don't think Wemby's current teammates got that in them.

I don’t think the Hawks would have half its fan base without Trae Young.
He’s one of the league’s elite shooters who can create for himself off the dribble and spot up in off-ball situations. Young’s floor spacing is invaluable and gives the Hawks another dimension that makes them one of the league’s best offenses.

@@UnbiasedSaiyanYeah I agree, we havn't done much with trae outside of 2021 and given the fact that trae's trade value is going to go down after this season (not due to his skill but rather only having 2 years left on the contract) atlanta can get a lot back. However I don't think trading trae solves all of the Hawks problem, the front office did not build adequately around Trae. They brought in dejounte but he is another on ball playmaking gaurd instead of trying to brink in a front court player who could play offball.

As a spurs fan this makes me extremely hyped, atlantas pick situation would be almost instantly fixed and the spurs have even more capital after that and some decent young talent to fill in a lineup with young and wemby. If this goes through i will be watching every game next season for sure
Hawks fan here. This is the first argument for a Trae Young trade that I'm all for. I hate the Hawks for wasting my time, but I would LOVE to watch this team up.

Excited for that to happen if it were to but I simultaneously have one yet major problem with this idea. The Spurs in turn may or will be forced to trade a couple of their already-improving defensive assets if they wind up acquiring Trae Young. In terms of games I've viewed with Young on the floor lately, I normally don't see him for example block shots unlike other guys like Clint Capela and Onyeka Okongwu.

It's an exciting idea. The defensive deficiency of Trae would be covered by Wemby and on the offensive side Trae would make up for what Wemby lacks right now.
It might finally get Victor to stop taking so many threes and go for more dunks.
Now imagine if Luka was paired with Wemby, that would totally be insane. Just look at how much Lively benefits from Luka's playstyle. Though Dallas would never ever let go of Luka and the Spurs feels the same about Wemby.

Young literally regressed from his 2nd season where he almost average 30ppg. And yet, after almost 3 years his numbers and efficiency are dwindling down. Yet Luka is on pace for another 34-9-9. LMAO
Man, I hate Trae's game just cause as good as he is, he needs such a specific team built around him, BUT San Antonio's young core is pretty good for Trae's style, that said good fit players like Vassell, Johnson, and Jones would probably have to go for the trade to work out. The pairing of Trae and Wemby does seem quite strong and complementary, but IDK. I feel like Trae might be so bad defensively that all 4 other starters might need to be all-defensive.
You never know what fate has in store. Could be that Vic gets an ankle injury and suddenly the Spurs have Trae Young and no decent role players.

A wemby-trae duo is promising, but i doubt if you can win with trae especially against the mavs or thunder, who are looking like rivals for the years to come. Luka would no doubt abuse trae defense even with wemby helping around.

trae has never been the problem or even part of it in atlanta. the management has fumbled the rebuild by putting bad pieces around him and making a very questionable trade for murray while holding onto John Collins until he had 0 value.

It's amazing how Trae is no longer overrated now that his contract is expiring. Six years in Atlanta and nobody cared about everything he's accomplished. Already past Chris Paul on the all time assists list and plenty more. Now everybody suddenly sees his value next to Wemby. This new league pisses me off.

I don’t want to hear this at all. My hawks have so much potential. I love Trae Young. I hope he sticks around, but for some reason we can’t get the players needed to win a championship. It’s a shame. Atlanta is a great city!

I'm a Hawks fan, and I hate the Hawks so much.
Is there ever a championship team that has a non D starter? Trae will be great on rebuilding teams but a liability to any contender.
Even excluding Wemby, Pop's last 2 stars were on all NBA defensive teams. He knows that dropping 40 is only good for highlight reels, but winning the postseason is by playing tough D.
Spurs knew they were simply loaning DJM to the Hawks to give him better playing experience. When his wings are hardened, Pop would have him back in a heartbeat rather than Trae.
I don't think San Antonio will expend their draft picks for Trae Young or any other star. They'll do the boring and prudent thing and build the team naturally through the draft. When they get closer to play-off contention in a season or two, they might start adding more talent, starting with better complementary players.
...it was reported that the spurs talked to the hawks about a trade for trae young before the trade deadline...the spurs want trae...i think they'll have more time in the summer to talk about it and make it happen... it's kind of obvious that trae wants to play with wemby in San Antonio...and it also was reported that his camp would be ok with a trade to the spurs...if his camp talked about it then trae has brought that up with his camp...I think the only reason it won't get done is if the hawks ask for vassell or sochan...keldon and there picks back which are 2025-27 first round picks plus a pick swap in 2026...and maybe another future first round pick...

That defense is a killer. Spurs always have tried to emphasize good defense. Pop has benched Wemby for stretches because he's not giving enough effort and energy. Trae would get held to that standard.
If Atlanta Hawks do trade Trae to the Lakers, this would be a disastrous move. Atlanta could have a bad losing 2024-2025 season without its star. Lakers should improve while the San Antonio Spurs would have the last laugh because they own Atlanta’s unprotected 2025 pick which could end up in the top 10 or higher. So if you the Hawks, do you prefer dealing with the Lakers and receive future assets or a chance at getting Cooper Flagg?

I don't think Spurs get tre, and if they do, it would be around 2026 when he becomes a free agent.
I do not like having Wenby and then putting close to him a 40% usage guy who shoots from 14meters and does not defend, only to get him a pick and roll partner. Spurs should maybe look for worse talent, but a better overall player.
I would rather trade for bench players and solid contributors right now. Maybe trade or sign guys like Vanderbilt, Drummond, Dinwiddie and so on.
