Fantastic and informative, literally the exact kind of content i'm looking for. I love how many independent creators there are out there, but it can get overwhelming. Your thorough reviews make the games feel more accessible and I can't wait to try them! I really want to try escape the dark sector in particular, it looks so rad. Escape the dark castle sounds interesting too, definitely going to check both out.
Glad it was helpful, thank you so much!! I will absolutely be doing more videos like this, I really loved putting this together. Getting to showcase cool art makes me so happy!!
Fantastic reviews! Ordered "Whispers in the Walls" (and also "The Cold Dark," a survival & horror journal game) based on your recommendation. Always great to hear from you!
Ahh that makes me really happy, it means a lot to me to be able to introduce games to people. Thank you very much! I'll have to check out The Cold Dark, that looks eerie!
I need to check out Sector, Obscure, & Miru. If you haven't tried it yet, the Mothership solo module Thousand Empty Light sounds right up your alley. You play as a 'lamplighter' hired to manage the power of an underground station while reviewing the logs of the prior person who held the job. It's best played by the light of a dying flashlight paired with its amazing soundtrack.
You find some of the coolest stuff!! And read your story...damnnnnn Is there anything you aren't great at??? Loved it. Thanks for sharing this stuff! Keep it coming please!!!
Wow, that was super informative and helpful. You're good at this, keep going! Deception at the house on the hill is cool, I have played it a couple times.
@wittlegoblin if you want to have a flashlight under your face then whole time you DM I would suggest using a harmonica brace and elastics to hold the light so you have both hands free.
The aesthetic is so killer (even down to the components), and apparently the artist did a soundtrack for it too! Absolutely gonna listen next time I play.
It’s my go-to during the Halloween season. One year I got through a few games by playing during work-from-home days and giving myself a turn or two “as a little treat” for getting shit done.
Witty!! Always make the best videos! I can't believe I didn't make this recommendation earlier but liking Whisper in the Walls for sure tells me you'd love it: Wreck This Deck by Black armada Games. You summon demons and modify your playing cards suitably, such as lighting it on fire. Glad to hear BLOOD BORG is as cool as it looked. I hope I get to try it sometime soon! Also, I continually threaten to run and/or play in a TTRPG with you some time. Creepy games especially >:D
Instead of holding a flashlight under your chin, what you could do is tape/stick an LED strip along a GM screen facing you. I think that could actually be really cool and now I kinda want to do that.
Right, so I have a neurological condition called poo-brain. I think that's the Latin, IDK. ANYWAY, I can't hack complex games after some seizures but hear good things about Into the Odd and things using it's system. Looks to have some good horror themed derivatives too. Reckon that's the most versatile "simple" system out there RN? Great vid by the way! Sorry, should have opened with that.
Heck yeah love seeing weird and spoopy games from indie creators. I've been wondering, have you had a chance to try CAIN at all? It's by Abaddon, same guy who does all the art for CAIN and Lancer, and is also the creator of the KILL 6 BILLION DEMONS webcomic. CAIN is basically a Hunter style setting where you play as secret government agency psychics fighting horrors beyond human comprehension
In case you haven't played it, I also recommend "Final Girl"; it's a solo board game wherein you take the role of...well, the final girl in a horror story, trying to survive long enough to take down the villain. There are a bunch of scenarios (each of which comes with a villain, a location, and a couple of protagonists to choose from) available, most of which are inspired by popular horror movies; you can also mix and match, once you have several!
You are so genuinely good at reviewing games witty, I feel like you give each one such a great, honest and personal analysis and add such value to so many indie projects that have obviously had a ton of heart poured into them. You also always make me wanna play all the games! I'm honestly such a huge fucking fan of you and everything you do. 🙏💚
Awesome video! Whispers in the walls really caught my attention, I've been looking for some spooky solo games to try and this will definitely be on my list alongside Final Girl and Eleventh Beast.
My favorite indy game is Badge Quest from DMDave, you play as a pack of "girl scouts" called Brave Blossoms who have to defend their home town from all manner of supernatural threat while still making their cookie sales quotas. "Leveling" up entails earning merit badges that give you bonuses. My party has the most fun imaginable playing it.
Awesome list, thank you! Any chance you might dig into “Obscure” in more detail in a future video? I’ve been curious about it and would love to hear more.
Heck yeah! Heads up we had a little confusion about some of the mechanics in the last stage of the game you move into but we figured it out! I hope you enjoy!!
Hey, if you had to pick one, would you choose Escape the Dark Castle or Sector? Does one have better, creepier, weirder art than the other for example? I'm thinking of picking up one of them, but don't know which
Hmm, I can only speak for Dark Sector since I haven't played Castle yet, but my guess from what I've seen is Castle is probably scarier! Can't go wrong, though!
Soul Cemetery is a solo journaling game about a fake horror game that you play when you have to return to your childhood home. The vibes were great and it brought up a lot of memories of playing games as a kid!
Why am I not watching your channel more? You're always reviewing such cool stuff! Edit: Also I have Escape The Dark Castle, same kind of game as Dark Sector. Incredibly simple but I love that it's so easy to play I can do so on the couch with my girlfriend while we hang with the cats. We just play in the lid and the box and it works just fine.
Welcome aboard, I like your user name! Thanks so much, I've got a lot of reviews in the works, I just can't seem to stop playing new games lately. That's super cute, my dog definitely likes to hang out while I play games too! I'll have to pick up Escape the Dark Castle. Thank you!!
Tether by Adam Baffoni is a fun indie horror journaling game for two players that feels right at home alongside the picks on this list! I'm playing Escape the Dark Castle with a friend for the first time next week and I'm excited.
@wittlegoblin we played four games I think, and it took us until the final attempt to win. We found the difficulty quite tricky, especially the final bosses. But it was enjoyable!

I love this channel! I have quite a few of these but haven’t played them yet my back log is massive! Keep up the excellent work.
Thank you so much! I went crazy picking up games at Gen Con so making my way through the backlog feels good (and is so fun)!
Fantastic reviews! Ordered "Whispers in the Walls" (and also "The Cold Dark," a survival & horror journal game) based on your recommendation. Always great to hear from you!

Playing with you was sooo fun! I definitely want to grab my own copy of Dark Sector now. And all of those other games look awesome!
Helllllll yeah. RIP us haha

I'm on a quest for weirdness, and so far so good!! Haha thank you so much!!!
Scab! Love these games. Happy Halloween!!
Scab! Scab! Scab! Happy halloween to you too!!
Spoopy Woopy!
EEK!
Only a minute in and I'm already sold on the first game.
Yaay, happy spooky season!
Wow, that was super informative and helpful. You're good at this, keep going! Deception at the house on the hill is cool, I have played it a couple times.
I'm so glad, thank you! It brings me a lot of joy. Ooh, spooky..
Yaaaas Mörk Börg and Escape the Dark Sector are both amazing games. Excellent choices.
So many fun ones, I'm having a great time!
As a world of darkness gm who also loves old school games, Blood Borg immediately caught my interest. Escape the dark sector also looks amazing
Oh nice, I think you'll enjoy it a lot!! Escape the Dark sector is so cool, really can't wait to play that again!
Thank you for sharing, Witty. These look like fun. I want to try 1978. That was a really good year.
Thank you so much, I hope you enjoy it! 1978 wasn't a great year for the people in that game but I'm glad it was for you!!
@wittlegoblin if you want to have a flashlight under your face then whole time you DM I would suggest using a harmonica brace and elastics to hold the light so you have both hands free.
@@mindlasher GENIUS!
Oh dang, Blood Borg! I got to play that last week and will absolutely back it being super fun!
Yaaaay, it's so much fun to look at too!!
Great video, going to have to check out Whispers in the Walls.
Thank you so much!! I hope you enjoy it!!
Really dig the escape the dark sector aesthetic, thanks for the recommendations!
The aesthetic is so killer (even down to the components), and apparently the artist did a soundtrack for it too! Absolutely gonna listen next time I play.

Now that I think about it... maybe I should've taken that knife from her.

I'll have to check out Into the Odd, we love poo-brain friendly games in this goblin lair!! Thank you!!
Worth checking out Mothership for scifi TTRPG Horror!
I was given Mothership as a birthday gift this year and I am SO excited to run games! The system looks amazing!
Just stumbled across this channel and I love it. Subscribed!❤

Excellent video! I decided to pick up the digital copy of 1978 and ordered Whispers in the Walls as a gift for a friend. Thanks for sharing!
Oh yay, I'm so glad!! You're so welcome, thank you for watching!
Great video! Ordered 1978 a few weeks ago, I can't wait for it to arrive! Adam Vass rules :D

Definitely checking some of these out. As far as spooky RPG recommendations go Dread and Ten Candles are the classics for me
Ooh, someone was just chatting about Ten Candles last night- I'll check both of these out, thank you!
Always love when this comes around! BTW - Whatever happened to RaqRex????

I love Escape the Dark Sector. I have the big box and like 3 expansions but honestly core box is great and you will get a tone of playnout of it
I am so curious about expansions but you're right, I feel like there's so much replayability just from the beginning!
