Hello Hazel, how did you go about looking for the property. Did you look during the week or only on weekends? Did you have the aha moment when you found your apartment?
I would look online in the evenings really, and I then fund the new build development very quickly - I did not ever go and see properties (other than show homes, which I looked at during weekends). I definitely did - I knew it was the one I wanted to get!!
Half of saving a lump sum successfully is to have the right mindset. Stop spending money on pointless things like clothes you don't need, do food prep so you don't end up buying lunch / takeaways every day... A big one is to stop spending as much time with people who just want to go shopping at selfridges every weekend LOL. When you get into the right mindset and get addicted to watching your savings grow each month you will soon be hooked

This is really helpful but I think it's also very important to consider your income. I thought I had a good chunk of deposit nearly as much as you but I couldn't afford a new build that was less than yours because my salary was too low !

£200,000 for your tiny 1 bed flat is actually extortionate 😂😂 you can get a 3 bed semi detached house for that where I live. It’s crazy the difference in price from area to area 🤯
I wish I didnt get a fancy car on finance I pay £340pm just on the car payment. I'm still going to save a deposit until the finance is paid off then save extra for fees etc

the mortgage is limited to your earnings so the amount you can borrow will depend on what you earn its different for everyone, you will need to speak to a mortgage broker or use a calculator online really to work out what it would be for you. sorry but i am not allowed to recommend a specific savings account due to the job i do (as this would be in breach of my contract) although i personally used a normal, bank savings account.. theres lots of options out there such a help to buy isa/lifetime isa/standard isa/cash acc etc xx

Yes salary definitely determines the amount you can borrow but theres options such as the help to buy shared equity too!

The first year I was saving about £800 a month and the second year I saved £1000 a month xx
