- In 1989, I released "Bring It All Back" - my third single from my 1988 RCA album "Blind To Reason". Once again, during one of my tours, it was time to make another video. I left my touring band in Mephis,TN and flew to Shepperton Studios in Surrey, England, an amazing huge film complex in the middle of the English countryside where many of the world's most beloved films were made: "Ghandi", "Lawrence Of Arabia", "Dr. Strangelove", "The Omen", "The Boys From Brazil", "Flash Gordon", Blade Runner", "Sleepy Hollow", "Out Of Africa", "Gravity", "Guardians Of The Galaxy", just to name a few. So it was a real pleasure to film there. I chose to work with Nick Brandt, the English director that had done such a great job on my video "Talk It Over".
Upon arriving I was astounded to walk into a huge set that had been transformed into a post-apocalyptic landscape where survivors of some unknown disaster (including me with a Hammond B3 organ) are stranded in the tops of trees. The resulting video was visually striking, even if I did have to overcome my fear of heights to perform 25 feet above the ground.

This album is one of those underappreciated gems of the 80's . I played this cassette so much the printing came off.
This and "Talk it Over" are still 2 of my favorites of all time.

I heard "talk it over" when I was in my 20s, and for some reason it hit my mind at 2:00am and It's 2021 now, and I'm 55 yo. So, yeah, it's been a minute. Such a great voice on a white guy. Always makes me think of Lionel Richie 😊

This dude knows the Hammond, for sure. Distinctive voice and great production values.
If there was ever a Grayson Hugh song that could rival Talk It Over, this one would be it!!!
Would love to hear Grayson and Steve Perry perform a duet. Very similar voices. Grayson does has a lot of soul in his voice.

This gorgeous song got significant airplay in my hometown of St. Louis. I remember hearing it on the car radio and thinking it was Lionel Ritchie. I'm glad I know who really sang it.

I saw this video ONCE back around 1988 and didn't catch the singer/group. All could remember was the visuals and the chorus. I'm just now seeing it again!

Grayson...I remember you from Berklee Summer Program 2000...we had an hour's private session where you had me show you a bunch of my acoustic work (you even joined in on the classroom upright)...I will never forget. You had me record a demo of my work for you when I returned home...
I didn't know of you until that songwriting workshop, but ever since then, your music has stuck with me.

My late wife turned me onto Grayson Hugh. I love the duet he did with Betty (The Clean Up Woman) Wright. The song was a cover of the hit by the group Champaign "How Bout Us'.

After' "Blind To Reason", that this hit single was from, I released "Road To Freedom" in 1992 on MCA Records - and that album contained my songs used in RIdley's Scott's blockbuster movie "Thelma and Louise" ("I Can't Untie You From Me" and "Don't Look Back") and my arrangement and recording of Bob Dylan's "I'll Remember You" for the end-title song for another 1991 Oscar-winning film "Fried Green Tomatoes". Then in 2010 I released "An American Record", and in 2015 "Back To The Soul", both on my own label Swamp Yankee Records. Check my website graysonhugh.net for the details how to get them. Finding artists like grayson via our local easy listening radio station (90s baby here) have been such pivotal moments of life. Songs like this and "talk it over" have such an overwhelming positive effect, fighting back depression and anxiety in my case. Love your work grayson, from another cliché "born too late" kid.
