Cheesy as this may sound, this song and album literally saved my life. At the time of its release in early 2004, I had been battling depression for many years. There were days when I just didn't want to get out of bed. I was also dating a girl who was very manipulative, although at the time I didn't fully realize it. She was basically my "lifeline," if you will, because I thought I couldn't do any better. I put on the happy face around my friends and family, but deep down I was a mess and wanted to end it all. Then one day, I heard this song at work. I had a job in the electronics department at Target at the time, and the video came on our in-store programming. That first line in the chorus "All of us are searching for an open arm..." really hit me in the gut. I bought the album that same day and listened to it whenever I could. Almost all of the songs spoke to me on a personal level; especially this one, After You're Gone, and Eye Of The Storm. They gave me the strength I needed to not only face each day head on but also walk away from that toxic relationship. Sixteen years later, I still often think about the moment I first heard All of Us and how it transformed my life. I don't know what that girl is up to these days. We haven't spoken since I left her. She's probably a domestic terrorist someplace. In any event, thank you Blindside for creating such powerful, life-changing music.
2022 and I'm still listening to the about a burning fire album front to back a few times per week. This song, pitiful, and the title track are three of my favorite songs of all time
Eff yes bro. Their first 2 albums Silence and About A Burning Fire are legendary in my head and have been since they released in the early 2000s. I was a teen then as well. 34 now
This song takes me back to when Fuse TV was actually awesome and this played in the mornings before I went to high school. Oh where has the time gone? If there's any kids out there listening to this, cherish your youth.
Dude same here, I'd get so pumped on my way to shower for school. I'll be 35 in February man, class of 2006 in the building and I agree, those kids better enjoy their youth. Wish I would have enjoyed mine.
So many great bands Blindside Thousand Foot Krutch, Red, Dead Poetic, dude the whole Tooth and Nail roster + BEC, was epic. I love Hangnail and wild indie punk bands like Sick of Change.... i think i have over 1,000 CDs.... wish these songs didnt disappear into the void.
As soon as You stepped through my door, I saw You for the first time all over again As time well spent seems Lonelier than the way it used to go I smell You for the first time all over again I'll begin to remember to feel love So if you don't mind I think I'll wear my heart on my sleeve 'Cause I'm tired of not being able to breathe All of us are searching for an open arm Well, it's a shame how I curl up in the dark When it's the same old word giving me the spark I failed the lost For some time I slipped, stumbled But fell face first straight In Your hand Then I hit my head on Your palm And wakened up to the smell of Tears drying up in the sand All of us are searching for an open arm Well, it's a shame how I curl up in the dark When it's the same old word giving me the spark I washed away my wounds with tears of hope I washed away my wounds with tears of hope I just All of us are searching for an open arm Well, it's a shame how I pull myself apart When it's the same words making me run for cover to Your arms.
Saw them live more than a decade ago now. The energy was so awesome and they also performed with mewithoutyou which introduced me to that amazing band as well. This song was so good live. Still have the merchandise I purchased at that show. Man, I do miss them.
Its 2024 and I think this is currently my favorite song. God I miss these guys. Hope you guys are doing alright now days (if the band even sees this). Love from California
I remember being in 9th grade and setting this up to play when the computer my gf would use was logged on to. Worked perfectly and she powered the PC on and this played. We've been together since! 999 ✝️
I loved this entire CD and now 2023 is almost coming to an end, we're in August 9th of 2023... hello, Richard, I'm sure you did some interesting stuff with your year.
What ever happened to blindside? This was one of my favorites growing up raised by two Christian parents but I can't find anything about blindside anywhere anymore other than Amazon
They released an album in 2011 and are still together as far as I know. They toured a little in 2015 and Christian did guest vocals on Everything In Slow Motion's Speak off of their debut album back in 2013. I don't know much other than that though, but it appears that they're still together.
They've been a band since 1994. They have kids to take care of, sort of a half-retirement deal. I've been a fan since 2001 and what else can I say other than thank God for 'A Thought Crushed My Mind' getting me through high school in the mid-2000s otherwise I don't think I'd be here today. PS - although they've been enigmatic, post-The Great Depression, you never know what's to come. They DID say that their 2011 album would be their last and they wanted to make it their greatest ever, but that's subjective. I recommend buying that record if you still can and watching the long ass DVD that came with it. Mine also came with a newspaper titled something like 'Five Years Away' which told about where they've been.
I remember how I got into Blindside! My buddy in school was going thru his CDs to loan me for the weekend - as was usual then - and I saw the Silence album and was like "Ooh! Shiny!" Lol And got it home to listen and MY LORD what a gem! Every track was GREATNESS! AND SHEKINA??? Ahhh
I've had this song stuck in my head for a fuckin year or more it seems like. I've been through a number of TH-cam playlists of similar artists and still didn't come across this song. Idk how. Then I remembered that Google will recognize songs if you hum them in your phone. It actually worked. Just the vocal melody with no lyrics.
Bring me back so many memories... (: "So if you don't mind I think I'll wear my heart on my sleeve, 'Cause I'm tired of not being able to bleed. All of us are searching for an open arm. Well, it's a shame how I curl up in the dark"
Takes me back to when I bought my first guitar. My parents had to hide a bunch of CD's from me for overplaying them, this was one of them. I swore I could play each guitar part in my sleep. Good times, and thanks for contributing to my musical influences.
Somehow this song and group missed being mainstream. But if you were like me roughly 12-18 years ago hanging out in record stores, odds are you probably heard them a few times, even if you didn't know who the hell they were.
This is a great song but could someone please explain the video to me? I didn't get it. Anyway, does anyone else get chills when this guy sings or is it just me? : ) His voice = Amazing
The video/song is trying to convey the feeling a lot of us get that we're "alone", and how that drives us, sometimes blindly, into chasing down a home or acceptance.... Love, in other words. A safe place. We get so caught up in chasing it that we don't realize someone else is looking for the same thing, and a lot of times, we just have to stop to realize someone else's plight and BE their home in order to find our own.
i like how they sound so passionate, but i can still understand the words they're saying, which i like as well as passionate feeling and emphasis in music =]
For anybody who's nearby, they are playing at a big church service in missoula, montana, SKULL CHURCH! September 16 and 17! Be there and bring friends! 6:00 pm!

That's a beautiful story. It touched me deeply. Thanks for writing it down. I can't hold my tears.

@@Shoninator I’m 34 and I’ll be 35 in February. About a burning fire is still a piece of my soul. Always and forever.
Blindside was such an amazing band to find as a kid, since I was only allowed to listen to Christian music. Still listening 20 years later!
This song popped in my head from out of no where... I still remember all the lyrics.
Love this band! Poetry at it's finest.
This song takes me back to when Fuse TV was actually awesome and this played in the mornings before I went to high school.

You wouldn't happen to know how to get blindsided first album would you?
2023 almost 2024 and this still brings a tear to my eye.😢
July 2024 here
August '24
I wish I can go back to the 2000s to relive this masterpiece
Same here... man we shoulda enjoyed it whilst we had it.
As soon as You stepped through my door,
I saw You for the first time all over again
As time well spent seems
Lonelier than the way it used to go
I smell You for the first time all over again
I'll begin to remember to feel love
So if you don't mind
I think I'll wear my heart on my sleeve
'Cause I'm tired of not being able to breathe
All of us are searching for an open arm
Well, it's a shame how I curl up in the dark
When it's the same old word giving me the spark
I failed the lost
For some time I slipped, stumbled
But fell face first straight
In Your hand
Then I hit my head on Your palm
And wakened up to the smell of
Tears drying up in the sand
All of us are searching for an open arm
Well, it's a shame how I curl up in the dark
When it's the same old word giving me the spark
I washed away my wounds with tears of hope
I washed away my wounds with tears of hope
I just
All of us are searching for an open arm
Well, it's a shame how I pull myself apart
When it's the same words making me run for cover to Your arms.

This song is so cruel. Why do you make me feel this way. Then fade away and never make up for it. I miss blindside. :(

I've only listened to Silence, after that they disappeared off my radar. This is the first song not on that album I've heard in entirety. Sweet!
Oh man, you have to get About A Burning Fire. So good.
A Thought Crushed My Mind is amazeballs. It's pretty abrasive, but it's got some of their most inventive riffs and songwriting.
