    The opening upsurging figure gives me the impression tha Gorecki was inspired by Bach´s Concerto in the same key.

    Great to see the note pattern and how hard Chojnacka had to work to get it smootly played. A tour the force!

    The sheet music looks menacing. I love how mechanical this piece is.

    Why are there dynamic marks in the harpsichord score?

    • @ang7751
      @ang7751 5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      The answer is: Concerto for harpsichord OR PIANO and orchestra.

    • @jrdscrgn
      @jrdscrgn 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Alan Downunder A revival harpsichord, which this piece was composed for, will have pedals to add various choirs to the sound, so dynamics can be achieved in that way.

    I used to be obsessed with this in the 90s. It's actually a pretty basic, naive work :(

    • @ArturKorotin
      @ArturKorotin 6 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      Federico Garcia-De Castro, perhapse it is naively simplistic in it's construction, but isn't it amazing that something this simple is capable of transmitting something as emotionally rich as this?!
      I am fascinated by this work because one of the many emotion I believe it communicates is sarcasm. This a tricky emotion too communicate in purely instrumental music as there is no situation to give context to what kind of sarcasm this could be (sarcams for the fun of it, out of spite, to mock something or some one). In that way, because the emotion it encapsulates is so open to interpretation, I think that it possesses a pretty substantial universality to many different experiences that we humans share.
      In short, although this is a small work, I think it accomplishes much. And even if it didn't I think there would still be nothing wrong with your tastes or anything along those lines because "you" found meaning in it. And that's really the only thing that matter in art in the grand scheme of things.

      Autur Korotin --- I'm not sure that Gorecki's intention, for this piece, was to convey "sarcasm" (then, again, I don't know that it wasn't), but it is definitely an emotionally-driven work.
      Whenever I find myself listening to this concerto (or even Gorecki's "Quasi una Fantasia" [String Quartet no. 2]), I always come away with the thought that I can't believe that someone wrote this stuff down...and, then (almost as difficult to comprehend), people actually performed and recorded the music.
      Now, that might sound like an insult, but I can assure you that it isn't. I LOOOOVE these works! It's just that they are so unusual...so bizarre that One wouldn't expect them to be as popular as they are.
      Very few artists take these kinds of chances. If compared to film, One might think of auteurs such as David Lynch or Lars von Trier. Whatever the backstory may be (sarcasm, revenge, insanity, etc.), I am eternally grateful that Gorecki (as well as Others) chose to say, "To hell with what anyone else thinks...I'm gonna do it anyway!"
      Thank you for your comments and for your obvious appreciation for this music. It is because of people like yourself that I know I'm not alone.
