      71’ 76’ 79’ was the years cutlass I had. 76, 79 were brougham. Then 87’ Toronado and 90’ Toronado. The other brand I had was Pontiac Grand Prix imagine that two of my favorite brands no longer but can always buy what’s left but now I drive Jaguar but still miss the old classics

    In the late 60's and all thru the 70's Detroit made the best cars ever. Man how I miss those beautiful cars.

      I agree with you, the only caveat is that the "workmanship" & "fit" lacked throughout the 1970s and into the early 1990s. Vehicles are better built, today, in general, but "style"(while subjective)is...basically...gone. I still own my very first(& only)1977 Chevrolet Monte Carlo. It was kept in a heated garage from the day I bought it, but the paint faded badly and some surface rust developed. However, I took care of those components and *still* have the car. I've babied it since '77, but the "life" of those vehicles was "short-lived". Quality Control SUCKED back then.

    I had a 1976 cutless salon, loved it. Was in mint condition when I bought it. Paid $3500. for it in 1981. Had every available option. Kept it till the rear bumper rotted off, LOL, but still was a great car. Traded it in for a 1995 ford explorer. I got 17 years out of the explorer.

    i grew up with a completely stock 76 beige n cream Cutlass Salon with a 455 and floor shifter in the early 80's, stock vettes and z-28's couldn't beat me. i could and did outrun a few police cars back in the day! came home from school one day and it was gone, my father sold it and got me a used Toyota Corolla so i wouldn't kill myself racing.

    I had a black 4 door 1976 cutlass in 1996. It was my grandfathers. Hubcap rims were replaced with the same rims you have. I got them from a yellow 1975, so I had them sprayed black. My interior was red, and it had a cloth bench front seat. It only had a 260, so it was a dog. It was donated, and was floating around Staten Island NY for a while in the late 1990's. I think it had 70k

    Mine had a gold pin stripe on both sides. I miss my car. If I had the money I buy this one or have one restored to its glory. :(
    The second week of my ownership, I put the pedal to the metal on the freeway around 12 am. midnight. From 0 to 120 mph within seconds. Went over the peak of the cross over and a radar unit cop sitting there on the other side. Scared the crap out of him. I could have gotten away but I already screwed up so I stopped over another peak. He was hauling ass to catch me and he passed me by. I guess he saw me parked on the side with his rear view mirror and he slammed on his brakes because you could see smoke coming from his tires. He put his car on reverse on the freeway. He parked in front of me got out real cool said I clock you doing over 120 mph. Then he said why did you stop, you know you could have gotten away, I said yes sir but I already screwed up thinking there was no cop over the peak and I was wrong. Then I saw the second peak and the exist but I though maybe there is another cop there and I didn't want to chance it me being wrong then getting an ass whipping from you guys. He started laughing and gave me a citation for 80 mph. Thank you sir.

    • @alanmaier
      @alanmaier 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 260 was rated at a whopping 105 HP, basically in the same league as the 231 V6 Buick ran in the Regal, but more torque. At least the Olds engine was smooth and did fine in the downsized Cutlass in '78.

    • @chriscjy4233

      0-60 in 16 my a$$. I had a '77 Salon with a 2.41 posi and a smog 455 and TH-400 from a '75 Regency Ninety-Eight. Only mods were a Fairbanks shift kit and duals w/no cats. 0-60 in 6.37. Even my Brougham w/stock 350 was in the 8's. Stop exaggerating. They weren't that slow.

    • @hanskinslo326

      180 bhp from the Oldsmobile 350 "Rocket" engine at the time. A lot of these Cutlasses got the Buick 350 V8, maybe it made less horsepower. Distributor on the Buick is at the front of the engine, whereas it's at the back on the Olds engine.

    If memory servers this was the first and only model where Olds took the #1 spot in sales. The volume of sales exceeded their ability to build 350 cu in. engines forcing Olds to put Chevy engines in some of the others Olds which infuriated buyers and lead to law suits and later GM made generic engines for all GM cars.
